Media in Fallout

Fallout is not set in the actual future, it's set in the future that people in the 50's imagined. It's technically an alternate universe. The alternate time line splits off from ours sometime in the late 50's, maybe early 60's. Many believe that all media from our world that was made after the late 50's or early 60's couldn't exist in Fallout. Others disagree. That said, it basically depends on how you look at it.

Some think that if post-50's things could exist in Fallout, then why would people still be watching black & white TV? Why would all of the music in any of the games (excluding Fallout Tactics or BOS) be from the 50's or before the 50's, but never after the 50's/ late 60's?

While on the other hand, many think that as long as something fits the late 50's-early 60's vibe of the Fallout world, why couldn't it exist in Fallout? it's the 50's socially, but it is the future after all, so why not?

I'm personally not trying not to take either side, I'd just like to see what most fans think. Once again, it all depends on how you look at it.

I think that what media did and didn't come into existence is a hard question - I think its a case of some of it would, some of it wouldn't.

Satellite TV seems a logical jump as its a part of the "Disneyland's Tommorrowland" vibe; CATV (Cable) began kicking off in the US in the early 50's so it seems likely too.

Although there doesnt seem to be evidence of a "Public Internet", there is evidence of large scale (private) computer networks - I think its reasonable that content could be delivered to Pipboys in a similar style to early WAP services / Hypertext style on Mobile phones.

I don't think its likely that one man from Australia could have ended up owning a huge number of news sources (Newspapers, TV Channels, Pay TV networks) in Fallout's world.
