Medic Discussion

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 8:17 am

Ok people most of the information is from Horses Compendium. http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1082745-brink-info-compendium/
This is what have have heard from the devs and might not be official in the end. You have been warned.

Medic is one of the four classes in Brink. Keep your squad in the fight, perform crucial revives, and bolster the defenses of nearby teammates. Medics heal for 100% health, so you won't need multiple medkits to heal a teammate.

Medics can:

Buff their teammates health.

Gain new and different types of buffs.

Revive teammates.

Has on-the-spot self-resurrection.

Escort civilian mission (gains XP to whole team)

Laz grenade; AOE revive

Bioweapon of some sort

What do think the Medic should have? (abilities, items etc)

Please note I intend to make one of these for each class and update as information becomes available in order to encourage discussion.

Please note that no class is a ninja. :ninja:

Medic needs something strategic. Their abilities are pretty straightforward: buff people who you think are skilled and will use it; heal people who are hurt; revive people who are dying. Try not to die while doing these things. Definitely demanding, but not necessarily as thinky as other classes.

In ET:QW, Medics got Supply Crates, which they could place anywhere under open sky, at their discretion, but they had to be careful because doing so would remove all of their health pack charge, and destroying the smoke marker before the crate was dropped was very easy for the enemy, as was destroying the crate. It needed to be in a place where people needed health and ammo, but not so far up the front lines that it was just immediately destroyed: an interesting decision that required situational awareness. Can we get something as involved as this for Brink?

Medics can also do things like escort civilians to safety for a team-wide bonus, and are needed for core objectives in Brink, like keeping an NPC alive.

I forgot the help civilian mission so they have an objective that can do but you are correct. Heal, buff, rez, repeat. Very very useful put boring. I also think they will have to be on their toes since everyone is going to try to kill the medic first, while his teammates try and keep him alive.

Edit:

I remembered the civilian mission right before you posted Horse. It is now on the list.

In the Container City demo, we see "Rescue Civilian" in the objective wheel for the Soldier. Did they decide to restrict this to Medic in the months since?

Still be Alpha who knows?? Maybe you need to heal them so they can make it out of the battle zone.

I plan to play as the Medic ALOT. And I really like there current ideas. Although my one little thing is that they should give the medic the ability to heal from a little distance. Not a large one but not to small. In BFBC2 I am constantly getting gunned down trying to save people suppressed in cover if I could just heal them it would be cool

The canonical Splash Damage way of healing teammates is by throwing health pickups at them. If you miss, the pickup stays on the ground for a little while, and they (or another teammate) can come pick them up. It's likely that the only thing you'll have to come into melee range to do is give them a health buff, which is a thing you can do before you enter battle anyway.

Normally you have to be right next to them to revive them, though; it makes sure there's risk to doing so. If he died because he was out in the open where the enemy has a clear shot, you'll have to put yourself in the line of fire to revive him. The devs have said there'll be multiple types of revival, though, so we'll see.

Splash damage seems to be on the ball in the pass. I need to check out some of these older games. How have I missed them before now?

Multiple types of revivals?? So maybe the Holy (reviving) Hand Grenade of Antioch?

Also, medkits heal for 100%, unlike in previous SD titles where it would take like 4 kits to reach full health. This should eliminate the need for TK revives. The Medic also has some sort of "medic grenade" which I don;t know the details of yet, and they can get a self revive ability.

Perhaps the medic grenade is like a throwable defibrilator. You know, it shock-revives you if you're within range of it. That would be interesting. -> :shocking: -> :gun:

Airborne anaesthetic! Really bizarre idea, but who cares as long as it makes the game fun.

Or a specialised Medic grenade could be something more mundane, like a flashbang that allows you a few seconds out in the line of fire to revive a teammate and run for cover

Two more ideas for grenades.

1) Similar to the grenade from Borderlands grenade that saps their HP and gives it to you.

2) Poison grenade blinding and DOT from poison.

A grenade that releases a cloud of tissue-repairing nanobots. Too sci-fi? Maybe you can just throw morphine needles like oversized darts eh?

No, I meant that the flashbang would blind the enemy, which would allow you to go out into the open and revive people before the enemy team regains their sight. It would create tactical situations allowing you to heal allies at lower risk.

Got some quesiorn on the medic, thanks of any of thm are answered. If it is not known then its what i want medics to have.

1. Is the medic able to lay down healthpacks that can be picked up by alliies when they need it? So when defending a building, a medic can lay down some packs for later use. They had it in ETQW so i presume this will be in. If they are in can someone please tell me if it is on a meter than runs out or do they have a limited number etc.

2. Are they able to heal themselves with their own health packs? After all, we dont want invincible soldiers.

Holy hand grenade would be good.

Well the health pack idea is great, drop a few health packs at a key point and then run back. And the revive grenade would just be awesome. A group of dead team mates BAM revive em.

How about a sticky, timed/remote, revive grenade (guess it would be more of a bomb by now). You could toss them on one of your team mates and when they run in all heroic like and get themselves shot down you could just res them from cover.

Here's a logical real life skill - Drag your wounded (dead) ally to safety and then heal them. It's not bizarre so the creators could (should) have put that in.

Magical reviving C4? I like it, but it seems overpowered.
