[WIP] Medieval London

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 12:09 am

...hmmmmmm evil conjurers went forward in time then placed the clock right in the middle of tower (the evil part is it is 15 mins BEHIND!)

hang on i thought they only had clocks in the renaisonce (spelling probaly wrong) Davinci invented them (1400's) and the City Of Milan was the first to have a clocktower

I could be wrong; I read that on a website. Not that it matter; there will be no clocktower in the mod.

After further planning, I've divided London into seven sections instead of five. My brother is working on two of them; I have three. The other two are shared between us both.

Finally, I've been working on the knights and military buildings, so I'll put up screens for that later today.

Quick Update.

Here are the screens!

The first one is of some English knights and an archer. You'll see them practicing in and around the barracks. Later on, I might add in a parade that they march in on a certain day of the week.

The second is of the basic structure of a typical lower class house. Notice the different roof.

Another Update:

So, earlier today, I was reading through that earlier medieval thread (the one that shall not be named) and started to take interest in the different factions that it "supposedly" included. Sadly, building whole countries is not my thing. So, I've decided to incorporate different factions into the mod through a more discreet method.

In the city of Westminster, you'll find a row of medieval "embassies". Living in each of them is a representative from a foreign country, as well as one or two bodyguards. The ambassador will attend audiences with the king, while the bodyguard is meant to show the player some really cool examples of armor.

An example would be the Teutonic Order. You'll find the plain clothes ambassador a little boring, but take a look at his bodyguard, who turns out to be one of the notorious Ritterbruders.

http://i623.photobucket.com/albums/tt317/Kaw434/ScreenShot95.jpg

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the name, Ritterbruders were part of the Teutonic Order who ruthlessly fought to exterminate all traces of Paganism from Europe. They were know for their ruthlessness and brutality.

Coincidentally, the Teutonic Order was at it's peak in 1250. As England is still very much Catholic, the Teutonic Order has sent an emissary to represent the order in England.

To add to the NPCs, I'll also decorate the interior of the embassy in a slightly different way, with Catholic symbols all over the place. By doing this, I hope to bring in a part of all the countries of Europe, without actually building them.

So, my question is do you know of any countries that might have had friendly relations with England? I know the French were not the best of friends, but how about the HRE or perhaps Denmark or Norway?

Thats a freakin' sweet helmet!!! Does this mean we might be able to join the Teutonic Order, be ruthless and hunt down some Paganism people, or be a Paganist and defend against the Teutonic Order?

And by the way: you might want to explain Paganism. I have no idea what it is, and I'm not sure how many other people know of the top of there heads either.

Uh...maybe you misread the post. The soldier is just for looks; the mod won't include any quests from the Teutonic Order. Like I said, I want to stick with just London, but add some influences from other countries.

Paganism is defined as any religion that worships "the old gods". It's really a multi use term, for example, the Romans who worshiped Jupiter, Mars, etc. were called Pagans, while Romans who accepted God and Jesus were called Christians.

Looking nice. I was going to say you could do a creepy Jack the Ripper quest... but then I read that he was active in 1888... so about 600 years too late?

Paganism is a term used to describe a religion that doesn't identify with the Abrahamic religious structure, however it has gained some renown as being thought to hold "witches" or "heretics". Those crazy medieval era religious nuts. ;D

Oftentimes I hear people consider it to be a "spiritualist"-style belief (can it be called a belief? It's very broad), where the person doesn't have an set religious belief or structure. Just that there are "forces" out there. Like, for example, here in Hawaii there are some people that believe in Pele, not as a god, but as a some sort of volcanic "energy" (in a strictly non-scientific way, I might add.) Paganism isn't exactly something I know a lot about, but I know for a fact that the medieval era was not a happy time for them. Often, a person who simply did not identify with a society religiously could be branded one, and brutally killed. The Salem Witch Trials could be a good example of it.

The term Pagan is broad, though, and envelopes a surprisingly diverse amount of beliefs. Each one is different, so to say.

Anyone correct me if I'm wrong, but that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Citizen: Haha...wouldn't that be cool...

Maybe you should make a Halloween mod about that.

Ahhhhh..... Very cool indeed. Well, I'll have to make it a challenge of myself to assassinate the embassador! :poke:
Will you release this as a modder's resource of sorts? Not necessarilly just a modders resource, but allow other people to work on it after release? London would just be a great place for dramatic quests.
I still love that armor. Will have to take a set my self. Over the body of my victim!!! :gun:

@Kroot, Pagans were generally non-Christian, but moreso ones who believed and worshipped in more than one God. So yeah, definitely Greeks and Romans.

Eh, I see was beaten rather quickly to that.

Citizen86: Ahh...the wonders of delayed posting. Don't worry, I completely understand.

Dudish: Y'know, depending on how this goes, I might just start asking people to design custom interiors for houses and stuff in London....in fact...

Ok, here's how this is going to work. I have A LOT of houses in London. You don't really expect me to do them all, right?

What I'm going to do is open the mod up to the public. If you want to (I'm not forcing you), and if you have the time, go ahead and make an interior that you would like to see in the mod. You may use any interior from the following list:

HouseLowerinterior01
HouseLowerinterior02
HouseLowerinterior03
ChorrolHouseMiddle03Interior
ChorrolHouseMiddle07Interior

Now, if I think the interior will fit in with London, I'll add it. I may tweak it to make it historically accurate, so sorry if it ends up a little different.

Rules:

You may make up to four NPCs for the house, but do not give them any packages please.

Please do not put any books in the house. Oblivion books will be replaced later on.

There must be at least one bed in the house.

To send the interior, just attach it to an emal and send it to me at tau434@gmail.com

So, what do you think of that idea guys?

That sounds like a GREAT idea!!!
And near the end will you release an updated version for user made quests???
And the delayed post... happened to me 3 times today.... :snoring:
I think if this gets big enough, and enough people start adding on to this, we could be looking at places outside of London made by just the users.

Snip~

A brilliant yet deceptively simple idea. I'll submit one today or tomorrow. I haven't played Oblivion all day, though, so I'm raring to go smite my foes. I'll see what I can do about building you an interior in a few hours. It's nubile stuff, and repetitive, so I understand how you'd want help with it.

Thanks demonsshade, you don't know how relieved I am (One house less...yes!)

That reminds me, I want to warn you about one thing in London. You might notice that some of the houses look a little alike. That is because there are so many houses that I'm just mass producing the generic ones. That means I take one house, copy it, rearrange the furniture and add new misc. items and decorations, add new NPCs, and move on to the next. This way, I save time.

Two reasons for this:

1. It's probably how it was done in 1200.

2. C'mon, do you really want to wait for years for this mod to be released?

BTW: In case you haven't noticed, I'm only on for an hour or two a day. So, please be patient if I don't send you an "I got your email and I've added (or, God forbid, rejected) your house" response right away.

Yeah, for now it's best to focus on just getting the houses in. Just add a patch later or something that makes the interiors more varied in content. Still, I don't think people take too much time to just observe the inside of a crapload of random people's houses.

Bah, I feel like modding. I'm gonna start working on the house now. It'll probably take me a half and hour or so, provided I move quickly.

Yeah, I'll probably add some more unique backstories to the houses later on. Just thought I'd add that half the interiors on the London Bridge are done. I'm waiting on my brother for the other half.

That means if all else fails and this mod goes down faster than a Chuck Norris roundhouse kick, you at least get to play the London Bridge. Hooray!

My CS is crashing on me repeatedly. I had to start over at one point, and I have a little bit done for now. Still, that first crash kinda annoyed me, so I'm gonna go play the game. Later today or tomorrow I'll finish it up for you.

Damn CS crashes. >.>

Sounds good...all except the oblivion gate. I don't think they had random gates to a red fiery realm in London. :|

Please remove it, or I will have to take it out of the final version.
