Medium Armor

IMO, an RPG (specifically), should have all sorts of "middle ground" items that are not on the extreme, nor scrupulously balanced for perfect play. It should be left up to the player to determine if the item is good, bad, exceptional or garbage; and a fair amount of it placed throughout the game.

Such items that have an advantage, should often (but not always) have a situation where they are not ideal.

Yeah, the light-medium, medium-light etc. stuff is perhaps excessive, but as far as I'm concerned, the light/heavy system in oblivion did not effectively fill the role that medium armor would. Yes, the light/heavy system is more simple, but Morrowind had medium armor, and we can all agree plenty of people were perfectly satisfied with that system and had no trouble using it. I think the immersion/realism/choice factor of adding in medium armor outweighs the slight jump in complexity that also comes with adding it.

Maybe is they did it RIGHT

thinjk about morrowind. You know what you dont have to read this http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Medium_Armor

Medium armor in morrowind was wrose than both light and heavy by endgame was missing peices and had a few other negative effects to go with it.

Right, I'm not saying that medium armor was all good and perfectly balanced in Morrowind, but the ideal behind the system was fine. As you said if it's done right, It would be great to have. As we discussed earlier, they took their time to perfect dragons, I believe we can safely assume that they're going to put in their best effort to properly implement a new and improved armor system, whatever way they decide to do that.

We don't even know if Light and Heavy armor skills are going to be in. Do we?

I think that there will be an armor skill with light and heavy armor as perks.

Anyway, I would rather like to see unarmored skill return as perk or something instead of medium armor.

We can all agree some people were satisfied with it? That just strikes me as a weird statement. We can all agree plenty of people were satisfied with Oblivion's system, and I condemn them both as simple and inadequate. What do you get if you're wearing leather boots with your steel armor? Full sneak benefits, and you gain light armor skill with your heavy armor skill. How well are your feet learning the skill of wearing leather boots? Real good skill there. In fact you can gain full skill in heavy armor by wearing only steel gloves all game. Then your daedric armor is weightless.

Armor skills are great. Or if you actually doubt their greatness, you could try a system like I suggested earlier where stats are applied by the piece.

What I think will happen is that perks will determine your skill with a specific armor subset more than your overall armor skill (since in all likelihood one skill will govern all armor types).

They'll probably require you to invest many perks into the perk tree in order to get the really nice perks, forcing you to choose one type of armor over the other.

oh god I hope not. I do use both types in OB, but the whole point of having separate skills for armor type is so that you can't get the maximum defense right away as well as being able to switch from super heavy and defense armor to light good protection. I don't want something that prevents me from using a certain armor, I just want them to be different or other wise why even have any different armor at all, we might as well have one set of armor called "armor" and pick "armor" perks. RPG's are supposed to be about getting better and progression, so where does progression and improving your character come into play when your armor is as strong as it can be right away?

There will probably be some transfer of skill between the different armor types (after all it is just one skill) but they'll probably still feel unique due to the perk system. After all, the developers grouped the different weapons into One Handed and Two Handed while still talking about making the weapons feel different from each other.
