Medium Armour?

Post » Wed Apr 21, 2010 11:28 pm

Does anyone see the Medium armour choice making a come back in Skyrim? I for one enjoyed it in Morrowind because it better suited my characters back story and class choices.

TBH I hope we get More armour choices in Skyrim or at least some special and unique sets that have a different look to their standard counterparts.

I speculate that it is only one armor skill in the game. While this might sound bad it also opens for more armor classes when combined with perks so I think it is possible that medium armor makes a comeback in Skyrim.

Definitely not. In fact, I see heavy/light armor being merged into one armor skill.

I don't think it's coming back. I think we'll just end up with light and heavy armor again, unless they "streamline" the skills into a single "armor" skill, which I don't think they will do.

One armour skill? That makes no sense. Even removing all armour skills entirely would make more sense.

I don't know how straight removing them would make more sense, but I also don't think they'll merge them. I have nothing to back this belief up though, it's just a hunch.

Well, the weapon skills will have three specialization perk paths (sword, axe, blunt), the destruction skill will have three specialization perk paths (fire, ice, lightning), so wouldn't it make sense for the armor skill to have three specialization perk paths (light, medium, heavy)?

I'd prefer to see all armour placed on a sliding scale of mobility vs protection and placed under one generic "Armour" skill that improves both mobility and defence in armour. Might not make a whole lot of sense but neither does using axes to improve skill with maces.

Axes and maces belong to the same skills (one handed and two handed), but they have separate perks in Skyrim.

But anyway, I think it does make sense. IMO wearing light armor is not different enough from wearing heavy armor to warrant separate skills. Just use one Armor skill and put in perks for light specialization and perks for heavy specialization. It's consistent with the way they're streamlining weapon skills.

Yeah, that just reinforces my point.

Might not make much sense to use heavy armour and gain skill with light armour instead, but neither does using swords to improve skill with maces. See what I'm getting at?

Yep, and I edited my post to show that I agree. They should merge the armor skills and put in perks for specialization. Especially considering the armor skills are passive skills.

Yea, one armor skill to level with the customization and differentiation coming from perks.

They already stated that there is only one armor skill, and you specialize in what type of armor via perks, just like 1h/2h weapons.

Where did they say that there will be more than one armor skill? Maybe I missed something.

I miss medium armor that looked DISTINCTIVELY different from light, and heavy. I don't think it's coming back, but yeah I miss it. I liked Morrowind's Bonemold armor, and it's variants a lot. And the Ordinator armor as well.

If you can manouvere effectively in heavy armour using light armour would be a breeze.

I think having one armor skill with separate perks will make the most sense. This belief is actually reinforced by the fact that it is separate perks for different weapons in one skill(like 1-handed).

Doesn't work the other way though, but in my system using light armour would indeed improve movement in heavy armour.

Might not make much sense, but...

Nevermind, I forgot about the perks for a moment.
I still would prefer two different armour skills though

No armor skill would make sense, as without it you couldn't level up just by getting hit.

But I think combining the armor skills with specialization perks would actually make it more likely that they would bring back medium armor. They wouldn't have to clutter the skill list with yet another passive armor skill, and three perk specialization paths is consistent with the weapon skills and destruction. Not that I really think it will happen, but it makes sense imo.

My bad, I typo'd that pretty bad. I meant to say they already stated there will only be one. Sorry. :P
