Meet the Devs #2

Post » Wed Aug 19, 2009 6:15 pm

OH! I HAVE A GOOD QUESTION! PICK ME! PLEASE ACTUALLY READ THIS!

Going off of what Windurin said (about making a present day sandbox game and the likes), I have had a game I have wanted to be made for a while. We have all played zombie games; there are plenty out there. Dead Rising was a fun game (well the first one was), but I do not think it truly captured the sandbox feel I wanted. Bethesda (Game Studios, that is) always makes fun and interesting, and above all unique games (just to clarify I still mean Bethesda Game Studios), and I know that many people I have talked to who like games like Fallout and Elder Scrolls are also very much interested in the imminent zombie apocalypse. With all the attention zombies are getting (with Walking Dead and all that), and how you will probably need a new IP sooner or later, the timing just seems right. I think you know where this is heading.

We need a Morrowind remake!

(wait how is that a question?)

OOPS!<--Correct usage) Sorry, thanks for the correction. My second guess would also be that they're going back to work on the most important game in the history of gaming that is Tes V!

Or it could be that it is now past 6 here on the east coast and most of the devs have gone home to relax and spend time with their families ;)

If you were to have a change of career - namely into the breakfast business - what would you call your new brand of cereal?

I think you have been severely misinformed about the schedule of game developers. Everyone knows that Todd keeps them chained to their desk until Skyrim is finished. They only get to see their families when their wives/girlfriends bring them food.

[edit] Here are my questions form the previous thread:

1) How long have you been with Bethesda?
2) Had you played TES before working at Bethesda?
3) What is your favorite part of TES lore, and what do you wish you could see more of (including things you've seen more of and we haven't).
4) What is your all time favorite RPG?
5) Do you laugh at our speculation threads to blow off steam?

Thanks

Wow, that's quite a way to spend 25 hours!

Glad everyone's enjoying the trailer. It was fun concepting it and getting it ready to show to the world, and seeing how excited everyone has gotten now that it's out there is very satisfying. :)

Imagine you are stranded on a desert island and could only have 1 video game to play....what would it be?

Are there any active practitioners of the necromantic arts in the BGS studios?

Which do you prefer: Tea, coffee, beer, water, soft-drink, juice or other?

Restating past question:

Too Anyone on the beth team who will answer any of these.

Where did you get your start in RPGs? what attracted you to them and wether you love the whole fantasy feel of games or more into other types like sci-fi or other?

Started with Tabletop?

or

Video games?

Other?

Brands of RPGs? D&D and such.

Just get an idea of where you came from I guess.

Damnit, can't you all ask some really interesting questions? :P
What I want to know is, can you say anything about the engine used? Anything at all? Does it look fabulous? Does it feel less static and stiff? Are the animations improved and do you use Euphoria? DMM would have been fantastic as well ;)

Yeah, damn right!!! I might not judge wether one question is interesting or not, but I think it's a shame to post only stupid bla blah. Who cares about redheads? Get your gf 's some red color from the store and make her look like a parrot, who cares?!

On topic: I'm not much of a gamer myself anymore, but rather a hobby developer (modder). I'd be very keen on getting some insight on the game developement, once Skyrim is released. So while you guys are at it could you shoot some nice footage for something like a "making of". I always love to watch how the pros get things done from the pure idea to the first concept drawings, til final artwork. Something like that would be awesome!!!!

PS: Thx and you're awesome and all that stuff--- ;)

[edit]6) How do you decide which questions to answer?

Thanks for all the hard work guys :)

1) 4 years, as of October.
2) I started with Daggerfall back when it first came out, after I got a new CD-ROM drive for my 486. I remember needing to upgrade my system RAM to 8 MB (That was a lot back then.) to get it to work.
4) I really like the Dwemer stuff, especially the first era Numidium-related lore.
5) They can be amusing, yeah.
6) I pick ones I can actually answer safely.

Did you guys ever drink real Mead? ;)

Not lately, but I was thinking about trying to brew some.

thumbs up to you my friend :foodndrink:
Ok devs that been two three opinions, we wanna know your opinions on redheads! haha
*waits to be banned for turning the "ask the devs thread" into "Andy's attempt to convert everyone to redhead lovers thread"*

I married one. :D

- Do you know of anyone who has completed 100% of Morrowind or Oblivion?

I'm pretty sure I did everything in Oblivion at one point or another while working on the PS3 and GOTY editions. There are a few other testers here from the Morrowind days who could probably say the same of that game.
