Nice art vsions, now you've got me interested in that SpecOps game. It looks like they could really go somewhere with it, I'll have to watch it from now on. Can you share any thoughts on the game with us?

You guys (Devs) should put your names and positions/what you do at Bethesda in your signatures so we know who we are talking to.

"Yes I did, and I beat it. I loved it and thought it was fantastically done. That being said its definitely not for everyone and anyone interested in playing it should get into it with a certain mindset... namely thtat its freaking hard and you have to play very smart" - vsions

It's good to hear that others enjoyed Demon's Souls just as much as me; I'm not sure it received the recognition it deserved (although it did win a few awards and did better than From Software expected). I hope those on the team that did get to play it gained some inspiration, because the combat in that game was near perfection!

I wish I could ask anything actually regarding the game that you guys'd be allowed to answer, but seeing how that's impossible, I'm just going to say: Thank you so much, guys. I basically grew up with Morrowind, and it greatly infulenced my taste of games. It got me into roleplaying as a hobby, from PC to P&P and even LARP. Wait... you made me a nerd! :P

On a slightly more serious note, I wish you a very statisfying time after the release, and that you can enjoy your work like we will. Many, many thanks for your past, current and future projects.

Some of you had old forum accounts with classic names, why did you switch it up? Has it really been THAT long?

Ok, I'm sure many of you play dungeons and dragons. So how did you guys all feel about the changes from 3.5 to 4th edition? Did you agree, disagree. What do you think are the pros and cons of the new system?

Dennis, do you believe a BFA is necessary for a concept artist or character artist in the industry, or is portfolio more important?

I posted this right near the end of the first thread, so I hope you don't mind if I repost it:

Hey, look It's Todd Howard. When can I expect another Terminator game? :P

Hello and thanks to all Bethesda Game Studios developers. I love your games and can't wait to play Skyrim. It will be my fifth Elder Scrolls experience, but the diversity between the games keeps it all very fresh and I support your radical take on change. I can't wait to see what you came up with for Skyrim.

As for my real question, when did you all join Bethesda Game Studios? I don't know most of you, so I'm curious. How many of you have been working for Bethesda since Daggerfall? How about Arena? Are there any of you left from Arena at all, and I mean people who worked on Arena, not just tested it (This specific question is directed towards anyone who may know, not just said people)?

Practicing all the time. Still practicing to this day. and when I get home I try to squeeze in some personal art when I can.
For some of those that have asked for some examples of our work and are also interested in the industry in general, here is a link to some stuff I have done before and one of the biggest hubs for all sorts of cg. You can also see tons of even more amazing artists

http://vsions.cgsociety.org/gallery/

Thanks for the honest and thorough responses. I'm a relative beginner to 3D and it's encouraging to see someone so highly skilled talk about practice rather than talent for a change. Your work on that site is amazing; can't wait to see what you've done on Skyrim!

No, it is not necessary. Personally I think alot of schools that have cg programs dont actually try to help the students improve but would ather collect a check. That being said, I think the most important area you can focus on if you are going to go to school is foundation art skills like sculpting/drawing and such. There is plenty of material and dvd's available to learn cg as long as you nurture talent. Portfolio is definitely very important.

Even the most talented artist probably svcked at some point, they generally have been drawing since they were kids and so had tons of time to practice. Do anything for a long enough time and most likely you will get very good at it. I believe that goes for everything, but if passion is lacking then one will never continue to practice and grow.

thanks everyone, I really think you guys are gonna be happy once you see our stuff, there is a ton of talent here

Its funny that you'd say that. I managed to skip two years of art fundamentals (sculpting, drawing, painting and the like) because of my portfolio. Which was strictly digital and http://img830.imageshack.us/img830/467/mwconcept7.jpg

Speaking of which. Who drew it? It was done internally, right?

Is there ever a point you reach where you can say, "This is good. I like this," or are you stuck always thinking what you do is terrible?
