Meet the devs!

Post » Tue Aug 30, 2011 7:12 pm

With Skyrim's announcement on Saturday, we're excited to open up our latest Bethesda Game Studios' Meet The Devs thread. This thread is your opportunity to get to know the developers working on Skyrim. Should be fun as you'll run into some familiar friends, as well as plenty of new folks to the team.

Please keep in mind this thread is NOT for asking questions to the developers related to Skyrim. There will be a time to ask questions, but not yet, and not in this series of threads. Our amazing forum moderators will keep an eye on posts that aren't in line with the theme of the thread.

Just wanted to post a quick hello to everyone on the forums. Thanks for being here and keeping TES going. Yes, we read a lot of it, and have been for a long time. It's great to finally see a "V - Skyrim" section on here along with Morrowind and Oblivion. Like you, we're fans too, and we're just as excited about this game. The whole team at BGS has been giving this their all for the last several years. The next 11 months should be fun, and this is a great place for the team to hear from you. No, we can't give away info early, so don’t bait us into trouble!

Thanks again for all your support, not just now, but for the last 16 years.

todd

How many of you are going on a long vacation after you're finished with Skyrim?

And do you agree with me that an http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ent race should be added to the next Elder Scrolls game?

Hey guys, there are a few questions that I'm sure almost the entire forum has been wondering...I hope you guys will stop by and clear up these very important issues for us.

1. You have to either go without bathing for a week or without video games, pick one.

2. You win 2,000,000 in the lottery, what do you do with the money?

3. If you could only eat one food for two weeks what would it be?

4. Do you have any strange fears like being afraid of pinecones or cotton balls?

5. Pirates or ninjas?

What's your favorite kind of environment to design?

Also, do Todd Howard and the other staff heads ever get scary/intimidating to work for or are they usually always friendly/nice to people who work under them?

How did you get a job at Bethesda? Seems like an impossible feat since every email I send them is ignored. <_<

I think its amazing that you've sourced such a vast quantity of talent for the voice acting. These voices are how Skyrim will talk to us (when we listen) and they can really make or break the game. From what Ive heard I'm of the opinion that the variety of audio cues will only make the game more immersive for gamers like myself. Good job.

I'm also really impressed with the concept art Ive seen and I'll be looking forward to rifling through the pages of the concept art book with the CE. You seem to have really stepped towards more original armor variations and weapon designs instead of using copies from "IV - Oblivion". Speaking for myself, I was close to jumping for joy when I saw the design of the light making staff. Fantastic job.

What has got me most excited is the story. You've taken a very difficult subject matter (i.e. dragons) and actually made it work in a way that may very well redefine the considerations others may have of dragons. No one has seemed to have really captured the personality of a dragon per se in a video game so far; however, the behavior I saw your dragons exhibit was quite fascinating - I think you guys might have pulled off the impossible! I'm looking forward to seeing them in action when I play the game for myself.

So, a very big thank you to everyone at BGS. I'll be looking forward to seeing what's next in store for the RPG and ES fans.

Ok thats super creepy lol

I was thinking something along the lines of a full video tour, and see all the people working on Skyrim, the last video just showed the lobby and sound room, I wanna see everything!

Firstly, What is uuuuuuuuuuuup Dev Team?

Second; Skyrim is lookin [censored], very impressed

And Third: I got a question about the development process...

How on earth do you guys prioritize and balance the desires of us fans? I understand that feasibility and cost of implementation play a major role... but when there is a component that has been cut, (lets say... yodeling) and there is also an addition some would like to see (lets say turning into a wombat) How do you guys go about deciding where to allocate resources?

Obviously the game itself has to be solid and play well, and you would consider how well whatever proposed elements fit in context to Skyrim. But if an when there is feasibility and resource how are such things decided upon? Also... how do you know when to follow your initial directive concerning changes in game mechanics, and when to stop and hear out the bleeding heart die-hard?

If you could give the Behesda "touch" to any other series or stand alone game which would it be?

Favourite music (genre and band)

Do you like 3d or Kinect?

Who came up with the new map idea and for perks to be in constellations? (whoever it was should be promoted, it was a great idea)

Have you ever experimented with or made a mod for any elder scrolls game that enabled local multiplayer, so 10 of you can fight to the death.
