What does it take to become a concept artist for a game company? I love games, and I love drawing, painting and other things. Do you need to know how to use computer programs such as Illistrator or photoshop?

Can I come over to your fitness centre and earn myself that Azura poster by winning in the one and only Bethesda Arena? :hubbahubba:

Unfortunately for your plans, the fitness center is only open to ZMI employees—we can't even bring family members in.

1. Over the course of the Elder Scrolls series, who's been your most favorite or memorable NPC? Whether they may have had multiple appearances (M'aiq) or a one time appearance (Fargoth) etc.

2. Blazblue or Street fighter (if your into fighting games)

Well, he is a boss, and he makes games LIKE a boss, but he's definitely not bossy. He's got clear ideas on how he wants the game to be but he always listens to people's ideas and suggestions. Great guy to work for.

Are these good ideas?!

Also, after working on a game for so long ( Even a TES game ) does the enthusiasm somewhat dissipate?

You're only human after all.

For the artists at Bethesda:

Being an aspiring game artist, I really try to use what's around me to make up some ideas. However, where I live doesn't exactly have the beautiful and epic mountains and forests seen in Skyrim. I'm wondering if you guys are inspired whilst designing by any trips you've taken (could be domestic or foreign). If so, where?

Another question I'd like to ask is this: How much freedom do game artists have in Bethesda when designing and conceptualizing? Do you ever get any feedback from other members of the team, and how often do you share ideas?

And finally (hopefully I'm not pushing It here): Do you know of any Elder Scrolls-based comics coming out soon? I've always wanted to see the series translated to a stylized comic book format.

Don't worry BGS Devs, I got this one. Yes you need some experience with photoshop or other illustration programs, as you will need to go into better detail than you can get with just a pad and pencil on some concepts.

Repost from previous thread.

In the GI video I saw that one of the art directors had a skateboard lying around on a shelf (bottom right corner in the vid), which railroads me to my next question.

Does anyone of you guys skate?

1. What made you decide to become a dev?

2. What do you like most about your job?

3. Disregarding all Bethesda's games, what's your favourite game?

4. What do you enjoy the most: to make games or to play games?

5. Do you think a lot of the fans here on the forums have similarities with The Adoring Fan?

6. Thanks for being part of the best game company. Thanks for making Skyrim possible :)

Thanks in advance :foodndrink:

We're all in Rockville, MD as far as I know. We have offices all around the world but I'm pretty sure the BGS/Skyrim team are all here in the HQ.

Right now it is yes. It's usually dark by the time we go home though.

Buy a nice house and a cool car, max out my retirement funds each year, and save the rest for traveling on my vacations from working here.

Realistically, probably my parents. I admire Warren Buffet a lot though.

I used to spin records, if that counts. I'm pretty rusty now though, and I was never really very good to begin with.

Will you be hiring in 3-7 years???????? :0

I don't see why not.

I liked the idea and I wasn't very happy in my old retail job.

Aside from the obvious "working on games" aspect, the working environment and people here are the best I have ever seen or even heard of. It's just generally a great place to work even when things are in crunch and everyone is stressed out.

That's always a hard question... lately it's Gran Turismo 5. I also really liked Empire: Total War. I spent a TON of time playing Dawn of War and Company of Heroes. For classics I'd say Chronotrigger or maybe Final Fantasy 2(4).

Playing is more fun than making, because making is "work" by nature. Making takes a really long time and testing (my job) over that period takes a lot of the fun out of the final product. It's gratifying when it's done, but I usually have no interest in playing it myself. I will watch my friends play them for the first time though. :D

I dunno what you mean... :whistling:

Thanks for waiting!

Will you guys make a special thanks to the bethesda chef in the credits of skyrim?

Of course! Actually if you check the credits of our past releases, he's in those too as Executive Chef.
