Meet the Devs #9

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 8:34 pm

Anybody from the office big on hiking or climbing.
Ya know maybe for that unlimited view distance and amazing graphics, or maybe to practice some of the survival stuff from hardcoe mode.
(or, and this may just be me, because you don't run across any annoying NPC's trying to get you to do quests for them all the way out there.)

I'm in High School (9th Grade), what sort of things should I be studying if I wanted to work at Bethesda? Also what requirements are needed to work at Bethesda? (other than moving to America)

Thanks.

This has been answered a lot I think, search through the old Meet the Devs threads. Also, watch Todd Howard's http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/01/13/road-to-skyrim-the-todd-howard-interview.aspx over at GI! He says he bothered them until they hired him. :) Of course, he goes more into it. Some pretty good answers, considering it's from the Director and Executive Producer at BGS. :)

It's about time somebody adds a wee bit of flavor to these questions...

How many countries have you visited?

Which was your favourite and why?

Which was your least favourite and why?

To which country do you still desire to visit and why?

I have been to 17 countries, and I'm sure nobody is interested in favourites or reasons from me so I won't waste the ink ;)

A bunch of you guys look in really good shape and train various martial arts, so my question is: Does anyone on the team train parkour (or tricking/freerun)?

Thanks!

If you wanted to create your own world (make your own characters, write their dialogue, create the landscape, create the interiors, add creatures, etc.) which job would best suit that? It's always puzzled me. I know it's in the design sector somewhere but I can never figure out who's the do-it-all for creating a world and everything in it. Not a job that's just doing a single thing (only making the environment for example), but that basically does everything when incorporating things to make a world.

Thanks in advance.

I've always wondered if BGS keeps track of some of the more popular TES modders and invites them in for interviews--and if any such modders have been hired.

So in that video ''behind the scenes'' when you were at that part with that white bord.

I saw this drawing that looked like a...well..uhm..a male thing.

Can I ask who that drawed?

Yeahhhh, that's a mushroom. But it's interesting that you saw what you did. Tell me: do you see these "male things" a lot?

What is the funniest/greatest signature, comment, and avatar you've ever seen?

The only valid answer to this type of question is: "Why, yours, of course, of course!"

1.) favorite planeteer?

2.) Garrus or Wrex?

3.) Have you read any of George R.R. Martin's work, and if so does it influence how you've shaped the elder scrolls?

1. Definitely Heart, but not the way Ma-Ti used it. So much unused potential! He could've exploded people's heads, telepathically forced them to walk off a cliff, but he just played with his monkey all day.
2. That's an impossible choice. They're both equally awesome. (nod) "Shepard."
3. Yes. Sure, it helps...I guess I...compile better?

Definitely Garrus.

I can't tell you how dissappointed I was when Garrus died in my ME 2 game. I actually had 4 people, plus the secretary die. I thought about playing it again and have them survive, but other than losing the achievement, I thought it made my playthrough experience better.

I passed all the loyalty missions, but when I was at the end game, it was 3:30 in the morning. I guess I made some bad coaching moves.

You let Garrus die?? You monster!

how many of you are in a long term relationship? (married, been dating for a few months, years?), did you people go career or family first, or both at the same time?

A good portion of us, actually. I both got married and had my first kid during my tenure here. Bethesda is totally awesome concerning PTO, maternity / paternity leave, and all that jazz.

I have a question for the devs: who are the devs? The ones you can talk about, at least.

Um, us? It's us? Or, that is, we? We're them. Does that answer your question?

But... where's Jeff and Poo???

TBA. My Earthbound love is only bound by my infinite laziness. I do, however, also have a http://rule34-images.paheal.net/_images/a84e1659b128fdcb31841bf770cdb1e3/333715%20-%20Cave_Story%20Quote%20Skydragon%20kazuma_sakamoto.PNG at home.

To be super boring: I've never left the USA, but I have been all over it and it's a pretty big country. I still need to go down the east coast to Florida and up around New England a bit and then I think I'll start looking at other countries to visit.

Everyone provides feedback, but there's no single role that just does everything; designers do the quest design and NPC/dialogue work, world artists build the landscapes, level designers make the interiors, place creatures etc. Sorry man.

I'm sorry if this has been asked and answered before, but what do you guys think of Dragon Age, if you've played it? What did you think of the interaction and dynamics between your character, your party members and the various ways to solve quests and how that could have consequences for the story?

Agreed. And actually I really liked the "anolytical" fighting style they depicted for him in the Robert Downey Jr. movie version... it was cool to see the "baritsu" style in action.

That wasn't Baritsu. Baritsu is supposed to be a wrestling form. I can't remember, but I think the style they used was a Southern Asian style.

EDIT: Just looked it up. It's based of Brazillian Jujitsu and Chinese Boxing.

But yeah, Holmes is awesome.

I asked the Obsidion devs this, but I wanna know what Bethesda thinks...

What do you think was the most hilarious glitch, bug, or mishap you have ever had during your years of development?

1. Favorite Ninja Turtle? (Mine is Raphael)
2. With the new Mortal Kombat game coming up who is your favorite character? (Mine is Scorpion :flamethrower: )
3. I don't think this has been answered but it is the example question so, what is your favorite color? :P (Mine is red. Or Sanguine to be exact.)

Edit* I second @Ralcos' question above me. :)
