Meet the Devs #9

Post » Wed May 11, 2011 4:54 pm

With Skyrim's announcement on Saturday, we're excited to open up our latest Bethesda Game Studios' Meet The Devs thread. This thread is your opportunity to get to know the developers working on Skyrim. Should be fun as you'll run into some familiar friends, as well as plenty of new folks to the team.

Please keep in mind this thread is NOT for asking questions to the developers related to Skyrim. There will be a time to ask questions, but not yet, and not in this series of threads. Our amazing forum moderators will keep an eye on posts that aren't in line with the theme of the thread.

Just wanted to post a quick hello to everyone on the forums. Thanks for being here and keeping TES going. Yes, we read a lot of it, and have been for a long time. It's great to finally see a "V - Skyrim" section on here along with Morrowind and Oblivion. Like you, we're fans too, and we're just as excited about this game. The whole team at BGS has been giving this their all for the last several years. The next 11 months should be fun, and this is a great place for the team to hear from you. No, we can't give away info early, so don’t bait us into trouble!

Thanks again for all your support, not just now, but for the last 16 years.

todd

Hmm... Have you ever tried mixing drinks and found something that you like? I find the results of mixing Gatorade and Ginger Ale to be awesome.

1/2 glass of Coke, room temprature
1/2 cup of coffee, hot (preferably the crappy office brewer sort)
1-2 spoons of instant hot cocoa
marshmallows

Gag-worthy, but oddly drinkable.

I may just try that one day.

You know, I once tried mixing everything in the house that I was allowed to drink, took one taste and knew that it would be a really bad idea to attempt finishing that milk-soda-juice-seltzer-sugar-salt combo.

Interesting. One of my friends likes to mix milk and pepsi. It's surprisingly good. And I don't really like milk or pepsi.

I've just recently started re-watching all the classic universal horror films so I thought why not ask, Which is your favorite?

The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Phantom of the Opera, Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein, Werewolf of London, Son of Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, or The Creature from the Black Lagoon?

Thanks for the peek inside and awesome concept art, I loved them in the oblivion dev. vids, but these are great. :)

What's the width of that white-board? It's huge .

What kind of cereal do you like?

Mine is anything without a ton of sugar (Cornflakes, Chex, etc.) with no milk. I don't like milk because it gets soggy unless you eat it fast and I like to savor breakfast.

Anyone of you like to travel adventure-style? Just taking an airplane to a far-away country with just a visa and a backpack... no planning.

Or if your not an adventurous person: If you could pick any country to go on a long vacation, where would you like to go?

I took a better look at it and you're right about it being a mushroom.

It says mushroom beneath the drawing.

Finally! Somebody else who understands!

Now for my Dev question.
Are any of you Drum Corp fans? If so, which is your favorite.

EDIT: another question...
What is the funniest/greatest signature, comment, and avatar you've ever seen?

1. Any of the devs Sonic Youth fans? Or just Noise fans in general?

2. If you could work at any other game studio, what would it be?

3. Cake or Death? ;)

I want to know if any of the devs are Beatles fans? Or possibly Beach Boys fans? I love Brian Wilson and his harmonies. Pet Sounds is such a masterpiece! :) Also, I love Crosby Stills and Nash, Nick Drake and a lot of the early 70's prog rock. Like Genesis, Yes, King Crimson, Gentle Giant and Emerson Lake and Palmer. :) Today, Radiohead is pretty much the best band in the world right now. They and Damon Albarn from Gorillaz are truly talented people!

Hey guys, Great Work going on out there in Maryland!

I was wondering whether any of you guys are excited about the new motion tech. from Sony and Microsoft.
Do you think Move or Kinnect have potential for serious gaming applications? Have any of you used/ enjoyed anything currently on offer for them?
Just interested on your thoughts.

Thanks!

1. Is Todd Howard bossy?

Well, he is a boss, and he makes games LIKE a boss, but he's definitely not bossy. He's got clear ideas on how he wants the game to be but he always listens to people's ideas and suggestions. Great guy to work for.

3. Do you love or hate when reporters come to record behind the scene video?

I enjoyed it!

4. Were you fascinated what all the forum has managed to get from GI behind the scenes of skyrim video (other from info that was in magazine)?

The forum sleuthing process is always fun to observe.

5. i was wondering what kind of music do you guys like metal, rap, pop , you name it

Bit of everything. I'm listening to a lot of the Beatles right now (got the "In Mono" box set for Christmas). Also, The Extra Glenns (or The Extra Lens) is an awesome band; they're a side-project of John Darnielle of The Mountain Goats and singer-songwriter Franklin Bruno. I'm really enjoying both of their albums at the moment. I picked them up from my favorite music store in the world—Amoeba Music in Hollywood (and San Francisco)—while I was on vacation recently.
