Meet the Devs #13

Post » Tue May 03, 2011 5:57 am

With Skyrim's announcement on Saturday, we're excited to open up our latest Bethesda Game Studios' Meet The Devs thread. This thread is your opportunity to get to know the developers working on Skyrim. Should be fun as you'll run into some familiar friends, as well as plenty of new folks to the team.

Please keep in mind this thread is NOT for asking questions to the developers related to Skyrim. There will be a time to ask questions, but not yet, and not in this series of threads. Our amazing forum moderators will keep an eye on posts that aren't in line with the theme of the thread.

Just wanted to post a quick hello to everyone on the forums. Thanks for being here and keeping TES going. Yes, we read a lot of it, and have been for a long time. It's great to finally see a "V - Skyrim" section on here along with Morrowind and Oblivion. Like you, we're fans too, and we're just as excited about this game. The whole team at BGS has been giving this their all for the last several years. The next 11 months should be fun, and this is a great place for the team to hear from you. No, we can't give away info early, so don’t bait us into trouble!

Thanks again for all your support, not just now, but for the last 16 years.

todd

Just reposting a question from that last thread that I posted shortly before the lock:

1) Hard, I usually don't get through a full playthrough on them when they're completed. I see all the possibilities and things that could have been but had to cut because of time, etc.

How many devs would you say feel the same as you? Does that just happen to the programmers and other people involved in making the core structure of the game, or are artists and so on affected? I'd hate to hear that nobody at Bethesda can fully enjoy their games when they finish them...

1. What is your favorite website?
2. Do any of you like House? I've been watching it for a few years and I love it!
3. If you could chose a gaming company to work with, would it still be Bethesda? (Your job is at stake :P)
4. Do you appreciate all of the hype you get towards your new games, especially the TES series or do you think some people take it too far?
5. Do you think many modern war FPS's are just spit out with the same mechanics with a new story thrown on top of it? I believe this is done too often and its quite annoying. I have nothing against FPS's but I would like to play a good one every once in a while.

Thanks for answering! :)

I remember when I saw the vid on gameinformer when Todd took them on a tour of BGS and I remember the part when he showed the gym and I saw some guys practicing mixed martial arts. So one question:

What are your guy's favorite martial arts movie star?

Mine is Bruce Lee.

Has Peter Molyneux ever disappointed you, let you down or otherwise caused you to curl up into the fetal position, naked, shivering and completely bereft of any reason to keep on living?

Do you think it's unfair the way games are rated? I always thought that it was messed up that a game needs to break 7.9 to be successful. You would figure that 5.0 would be the average game wouldn't you?

Yes, quite a few of us are fans. I use it as reference as well because I love the style. I get alot of inspiration form it for TesV

I never got that, a 1-10 scale is supposed to be even, how complicated is that? That's why I stick to independant reviewers for the most part, regualr people with regular opinions.

EDIT: Oh right, a question....uhm...So, how about that game last night huh?

I heartily recommend Bulletstorm to blast away those repetitive modern shooter blues. Sadly, the best quotes are unprintable in a family-friendly forum :hubbahubba:

Most certainly. I don't think anyone here actually wants to work lots of extra hours, but we do it for you guys!

For the record, that statement is based on my one shipped title in the industry, which was not a Bethesda game
Also, I'm not a programmer

Two questions :D
First:
Do you watch Doctor Who? What do you think about the ir? Who's your favourite Doctor? ;)

Second:
Was working in Bethesda a dream come true? or Did the opportunity just popped up?

-_- Yeah, sometimes I have to wonder, whilst I'm romping around a Bethesda world, just how much overtime was poured into it, and I feel a twinge of guilt. Just know that all the effort you guys put forth, both individually and collectively, is vastly appreciated.

For any of you coders over there, do you have any interesting non-job-related (and not necessarily gaming-related) personal projects that you've been working on or have in mind?
