Hahaha. You can throw as many straws at me as you like, doesn't change the fact of good storytelling vs bad.

Also, accusing others for the way they might have acquired their platform of preference really isn't helping your
(non) arguments.

If everyone thought it looked awesome, people wouldn't "whine".
Stop complain about other people disagreeing with you.

Those who do not think it looks great are PC gamers, which can change it's HD quality anyways. So yes, they are whining. ^^

Well see heres the thing, You've just expressed an opinion on a writing style, and then asserted that its bad, as a fact. It is not. You apparently, just don't like it. I on the other hand do, and find the story line quiet good.

Also I never stated that a huge market share is inconsequential.
I stated that the market for sooky, over paid 17yr old hasnoideawhatheactuallyhas gamer with expensive computers that his daddy bought, is not has monumental as the sook over paid 17yr old thinks it is.
Its a common theme through modern society, people thinking they're more important then what they actually are...

Stating some false, rude and flamy general statement is not the best way to win an argument, soop ;)
It is, however, the best way to win a report. Seriously, behave? Is it that hard to discuss visuals and graphics on these forums without someone randomly spitting out rude statements?

You guys are focusing on the admittedly poor-looking mammoths and grass, but ignoring that beautiful backdrop of a mountain. We never had ANYTHING like that in Oblivion.

Well the mountain - if not shopped - is admittedly good especially considering that it runs on a 360 dev kit (I assume).

We'll see on Monday.

1st. I don't know mang, I 've had the pleasure of playing games that blow TES's writing out of the water. It's not as if
this is secret knowledge.

2nd. DICE, CDProject and a few others would respectfully disagree.

On storylines in TES I would like to quote a developer, Michael Kirkbride.

"I can safely say that Vivec is the most realized character in videogame fiction. Period.

If a hermaphroditic, bug-armored, bipolar god-king existing in multiple universes who has his very own bible with *actual* magic strewn throughout it is your idea of a cliche, then I really would like to live in your world. It sounds fun and new.

But, wait, then I'd have to inexplicably make snarky and insulting comments in a forum where creators often tread. And that would quickly make me boorish and prone to cliched Angry Youngster Angst. That's the interwebs for you and good luck with it.

I can also say that Morrowind is the finest novel written in videogame fiction. A 40 hour narrative whose main character is only ever referenced is almost Nabokovian in aspiration, and prophecies whose truth is determined only by the player is akin to Borges if he only had been born with a USB port in the back of his beloved neck."

(source: Imperial Library)

Wich is a way of describing I not only very much agree with, but also much better said than I ever could.

To me, Morrowind's story was probably the best I've ever experienced, while Oblivion's story was... well, not that good. The Mythic Dawn was utterly pathetic compared to the Sixth House, in my honest opinion.

Yes, the lore was actually much better fleshed out, but somehow a lot of it didnt make it into the game.
Most can be found on the imperial library though and that paints a picture of Dagon as something else than a mindless demon bent on destruction.

See, this is how I look at it.

The Elder Scrolls is a novel, and each game is a chapter. Granted Oblivion wasn't the most exciting chapter but it still went towards telling the story. The very same story that was being told in Daggerfall, Morrowind and will be told in Skyrim.

If you look at this over all story, and the way its being told, in my opinion IT IS VERY GOOD.
Its my personal opinion, that if you're overlooking this facet of game, you're missing the ENTIRE point of it.

It looks at least as good as Oblivion, and in some cases better. I really like the fog/clouds on the mountain in the background. The creatures look to be a slight improvement from Oblivion, but the environments could have benefited from a whole new engine. The lack of shadowing on the anything in the environment is a bit of a letdown after it was promised though. I was hoping for a bit more of an improvement in the 5 years since Oblivion, but I still feel the game will be really good. As long as they don't remove too many more things that is....

Alright boss, I don't think the writers need defending. You spoke of Vivec arguably the best character ever to come out of Bethesda. Need I remind you of Arena? Daggerfall? Oblivion? Fallout 3?

My comments are my own. If you don't like them report me, or ignore me. Just don't try to patronize me.

I did not patronise you.
I did not call Vivec the best realised character in gaming. Quotation marks are there for a reason.

Grasses and bushes doesn't look better in Witcher 2 either...

I was about to complain about that, but then I realized that it looks like that nearly everywhere else...

I think we need to see more of Skyrim's grass before saying that :P
But if we are to look at the grass only in the Mammoth picture... I'd say I'm not that impressed. Looks almost identical to Oblivion's grass :/
Concerning grass in Witcher 2, all I know that it's very very well done. Especially the wind animations. Best wind animations I've ever seen in a video game. Here's a good example I think: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90BPECahh3o&feature=player_detailpage#t=93s (1:33- 2:10).

But bushes, and concerning bushes only, I'd say they look just as good as Witcher 2's bushes hehe.

In all seriousness, W2 looks amazing but I seriously doubt the engine could handle a Beth style sandbox. Like Metro
destroying STALKER but in a much more confined environment.

@soop. It's a bit like that, yes, and like any contemporary Bioware game really. But vastly superior in every single way.
Personally it evoked some Gothic feeling in me. Especially Gothic 2.

If you consider NWN an overrated game with more fluff than substance, then yes.

 I don't think we'll get anywhere by comparing Witcher 2 and Skyrim as games as a whole. They're so different in many aspects that we'll only come to the conclusion that they're different games.
All I know is that it's the best looking RPG to date with a great story and a mature theme, while Skyrim is the game with most focus to freedom and openness with a more epic theme.
