Meh mammoth prictue

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 9:10 am

Having never played The witcher 2. Can someone answer this, Is it essentially Never winter nights with pretty pictures?

W2 is not a sandbox like Tes but the playground is much more big than Neverwinter and it have some great distant views.
The W2 devs have included gigantic texture that cant be used for a game as detailed as tes but Tes can be a middle ground.
I think they have the ability to get 100% on consoles and something more pc.

In all seriousness, W2 looks amazing but I seriously doubt the engine could handle a Beth style sandbox. Like Metro
destroying STALKER but in a much more confined environment.

@soop. It's a bit like that, yes, and like any contemporary Bioware game really. But vastly superior in every single way.
Personally it evoked some Gothic feeling in me. Especially Gothic 2.

Great, I shall remember to not touch it with my worst enemies appendage then.

I liked Mass Effect 1, hated Mass Effect 2 due to the 90degree turn it did with the story telling.
Wasn't a huge fan of NWN to start with and don't like many other bioware games.

I dislike games that attempt to give me the illusion of space to move, when instead all they've done is painted a really really convincing work of art on the roof and walls.

Of course, not every game is for everyone. But I don't get your last sentence, what do you mean?

EDIT: Oooooh. If you by any chance mean Invisible Wall Syndrome then no, as I said it is much closer to the Gothics or Divinity 2 in that sense. As
in exploring and discovering stuff. The story structure tho' is BW style with plenty of branching to promote replayability.

I dislike linear invisibly walled or contrived steep cliffed games.

Yes, every game has them. But when it becomes obvious that the game is channeling you down a walk way. I get a little annoyed. Much in the same way Mass Effect does. Perhaps thats why I resorted to head butting a brick wall halfway through ME2.

Yes, see edit in my previous post. It has much more freedom than BW games.

I think the mammoth picture is absolutely amazing, the scenery doesn't look anything like that of Oblivion, Skyrim looks far superior. I'm just wondering what some people would say if an actual mammoth was standing in front of them, I'd wager there'd still be "It looks like Oblivion. It's obviously on a game engine that's like 100000000 years old.". Skyrim isn't out yet, wait until then to moan about the graphics and nobody will mind because we'll all be too busy playing Skyrim. ^_^

I love it, I dont see what people are complaining about. Did you expect photo-realism?

The grass/bushes have to be simple or else as soon as you walk into the forest you will lag the game and die. trust me, I doubt you will notice when you're playing.

The Mammoths look good, dont know about you guys.

And just look at High Hgothrar with those snowstorm clouds hanging over it!

The grass in Oblivion was a pain for my graphic card, so simple bushes is cool :D I prefer the details on Nord women

Am i the only one that thinks the Mammoth pic is way outdated?

I mean the bushes look so almost, like a decade old.

The bushes are ok imo, like you my first impression when I saw them was negative but then I remembered that grass can kinda look like that in toundras (or some cold region of the kind).

I really don't know what to think of the mammoths, though. I don't like the texture all that much, it looks very... embossed or something, and I don't think the higher res textures of the pc version will drastically change that. I also think they look a bit cartoony, I don't know why it's just an impression.

To be honest though, what I don't like is not really the model and the texture (they don't look that bad, I'm nitpicking here)...

It's the lack of originality.

Skyrim is a cold place? Let's bring the mammoths! which is fine but the other creatures we've seen so far have been a bit uninspired as well. Again, the trolls, dragons and giants are very well done... but they remind me of so many other trolls and giants from other games... I am a bit saddened by the fact that we have yet to see a "new" creature (maybe I missed a few pictures), something for which Bethesda would have to come up with a new name. I think we've seen pictures of these undead armored skeletons from Bloodmoon with a custom name... but again, that's not something new to Skyrim...

That's just my own personal opinion, but I'm still waiting for something that would make me think "wow now that's different/new/original." I am impressed by the beauty of the universe, but I was impressed by the screenshots of Two Worlds as well.... a game which I didn't play for more than two hours because it felt too generic.

Sorry I got a bit carried away

I agree. I hope they have some great creatures hidden in their pocket for later...maybe not as weird as Morrowind's, but still, something more original.

Yeah, and this is a good point.

I'm just gonna throw something out here though.
The mammoth picture: http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/9962/mammoths.jpg
There's a grass texture (at least certainly looks like it) near the bottom of the screen. On top of that, there's real grass.

See my point? There's grass, on top of grass! It would make more sense if it was a dirt texture on the ground, THEN grass on top of it.
Same thing with this picture: http://cdnstatic.gamesas.com/akqacms/files/tes/screenshots/WolvesHealMace_wLegal.jpg

It may be just me... but this kind of bothers me :/
