I can't wait to see what modders do to those mammoths.

Tell me about! Why ride horses, when you can ride a mammoth!? Might take forever to get where your going, but you'll sure look like a bad ass getting there!!

well said luke i think even the seemingly unpleasable pc players will be happy seeing the game in action.

No. We will only be satisfied once computers can emulate reality -- and then we will want more!

I can't wait to hunt Mammoths, but it looks like I might have to fight Giants if I do.

This is going to be awesome.

Thats where things seem to get a bit confused on this forum, any criticism of the platform itself is interpreted as a personal slight on those who own a 360. Perhaps in some instances PC gamers are venting their feelings at the most convenient target, but for the most part I think the criticisms are quite objective and specific. I don't think many PC gamers believe Skyrim won't be a great game, and one that is bigger than the sum of its parts. But in specific areas (not just graphics) we may have reason to feel the game is going to be less than it could be.

Oic.... But maybe the "PC-ers" should lay off the "most convenient target"..... Plz.

I know who our complaints should be directed at. However I don't think it would do their (Bethesdas) public relations any good to front up on a public forum and make any frank admitions, such as calling this game what it really is: an X-box 360 game. As an afterthought they are also porting it to PS3s and PCs.

I'm a graphics [censored], but I think it's pretty amazing what Bethesda has been doing with skyrim (since it's the same hardware), look at the textures, meshes and etc from oblivion xbox360 pictures and you'll see.
Now we have dynamic shadows everywhere, texture is much better than oblivion, things are drawn further away, we have much more content to be loaded at the memory, much more processing should be required for the improvements and etc, but it's the same hardware.
Congratulations, bethesda!

Just a point for those worried about the quality of the screen shots. Just because the shots are new to us doesn't mean they're brand new screen shots. They could have been taken months ago and just been grabbed because they haven't shown mammoths yet, that would explain why some people are noticing that the grass and the trees look different than in other shots.

I think what bothers me most about the mammoth picture is that the shadow from the closest mammoth isn't casting on the actual grass. That was a feature in Oblivion, so it's a bit ironic that Skyrim has more shadows everywhere, but they aren't cast on the grass like they are in Oblivion.

Maybe I'm remembering wrong, but I don't think that shadows on grass thing was enabled on consoles. Isn't it something you had to set on teh PC settings? I think it's the same case here.

I think the photo is pre-alpha and the brush on the ground looks terrible, the trees look fine, the giant looks great! and the mammoths look almost lifeless and what is with the markings on their tusks?

I think that photo is as good as the graphics on consoles will ever get, the grass looks okay, the giant looks great! And the mammoths look pretty badass to me, and the thing with the markings on their tusks is that the giants are herding them and have marked them as part of cultural tradition.

There are shadows on the grass, It's just that the light is going through the tusk on the first clump... look behind on the grass blocked from light by the body of the mammoth. Although saying that you can't really tell for certain either way from this screen I think...

There's a weird hierarchy of needs within the gaming industry... as soon as gamers have one thing they immediately want the next step up regardless of the type of game, console or whatever. I myself think they look great all things considered... the draw distance, the way that the dynamic snow has worked in covering the mountain's edge, how the mist and fog works as you get further up the mountain. It's all very well complaining about the grass but I think its at least one more console generation before you get 3D realistic grass in an open world game... I'm suprised there hasn't been a thread about how the interior pic looks f'ing amazing but thats just the way that people's minds work I guess...

No, that grass is just slightly darker for the most part. You can see other grass the same darker colour outside of the mammoth's shadow shape. You can see the mammoth's whole head has a shadow under the grass, just the grass is not shadowed. Like I said, fairly expectable for a console shot.

people worrying about the grass, some explanation:
Shadow on grass could be enabled in the Oblivion.ini
you could also put more graphical qualities like shadow illumination or more grass

look at the grasses and trees on the xbox 360 FO3 and the Skyrim picture
Fallout 3: (Xbox360)

Now look at the pc picture with supersampling on, which obviously you'll be able to use it in Skyrim:

Fallout 3 (PC, with supersampling)

Bethesda is brave and honest posting Xbox360 picture only, since they're not trying to sell something it is not (at least for the console version)

Still mammoth looks way outdated? i don't care much about graphicks in an RPG but still, looks rly bad even if its on xbox360

errr u drunk?as u said its an xbox 360,or even ps3

as a console gamer,i dont think the system can handle an open world game and yet the same time awesome graphic,i think u r overestimate the power of the console

do u want a nice graphic yet limited view distance and laggy gameplay?

or a acceptable graphic with better and smoother gameplay?

i would choose second option

Since there are no mammoths or giants in Oblivion, here's a scenery comparison.

It really looks like the way they're handling the distant land stuff now is going to be the biggest difference. Oblivion's is a blurry mess, even after the 1.2 patch.

For being on the same hardware as oblivions, it looks amazing imo. People seem to expect next gen graphics when we are not even on next gen hardware yet.

Spoiler
Windows 8?

Anyways, We knwo that Giants wont attack unless you make them do that... and someone on one threaad said that giants herd mammoths.. And todd said that.. I dunno where,

Seriously, what do you guys expect from a fully open world game? Sure some games will look much betted but that is mainly from them being able to trade map sizes with improved visuals. Christ, I now see why I took a break from these forums.

I'm a graphics junkie and I think the graphics are decent considering the size and scale of Skyrim.

Although in saying this, I have been on the 360 for the last 4 years so haven't really seen the evolution of graphics on PC. I did notice the Unreal engine the other week which looks amazing.

But lets put this in perspective guys. With the sheer amount of individual objects around Skyrims world, I think the graphics are great.

Jesus.
I've just started playing Daggefall for the first time, the graphics would make some members here combust. I swear you people need to start focusing on what makes a game good. It is certainly not the graphics.
