Mehrunes's Razor

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 8:54 am

What was Bethesda thinking with this weapon? I'm not complaining, but damn. I play a level 30 thief assassin on Expert and I cannot be stopped. I'd understand if the weapon had a limited number of uses, but its enchantment never dies. Really, I dual wield so my attacks are super fast and if I don't one hit something on my first swing I'll get it a couple of attacks later. I killed Krosis in one hit, FFS. xD Weapon is awesome, though.

Its pretty insane, you one shot everything if you have the dagger backstab perk and are using the double backstab gloves...

Mine is doing around 600 hit points a backstab with that, and I'm not that high level... plus poisons, plus the random one shot kills from it.

Is there an achievement for giving in to all the Daedric things? I know there is one for giving in to them once.

It's power is relative and random. You can go for hours without instakilling something.
Make a Daedric Mace of Cheese with all professions maxed and you'll be one-shotting stuff with every hit.

My Mehrune's Razor (Legendary) does 79 damage per hit, compared to my Blade of Woe (Legendary)'s 125 damage per hit. To top that, its enchantment hasn't worked for me yet. Ever. I think it might be bugged.

Either way, I do more damage with my 12x sneak attacks with a sword than with a 30x with a dagger because sword's have such better damage at high repair levels (compare 376 to 125. Yeah.)

Of course, the game gets boring with crafting exploits, so I crated all my OP gear and went off into the wild naked to get legitimate items. Much more fun that way.

Yeah, the Razor is neat and occasionally handy when it procs, but it really isn't that great. The proc rate is really low and with 30x backstab damage there are much, much better dagger options out there. I tend to favor constant, high power over weak-but-rarely-OP stuff, so the Razor usually goes in the storage box.

Hehe, it's what you get when you level alchemy, enchanting and smithing to 100.
Then you use creative enchanting and alchemy synergies (and the falmer helm + circlet exploit) to reach around 200 smithing to improve the mace.
Finally you boost your enchanting to around 200 and put Fortify one-hand on everything possible.

The resulting item is the Daedric Mace of Cheese.

Is the pommel the one at Dead Crone Rock? If so honestly follow your map. It takes you through towers, up and up through the fort until you will finally reach an outcropping with a hargraven and it should be there.

Combined with a high Sneak level, and the Assassin's Blade perk (i think), ANY dagger is over-powered..

But the Razor? More than others? Bah. I upgraded it to match the damage of a "standard" Legendary Daedric dagger, and I've been using it for 20 levels.. The ONLY time it's ever proc'd in a suitable situation was about 3 hours ago for me..

*Fast travels to Dawnstar for DB mission*
*Random Elder Dragon lands in front of me*
*Pulls out Razor & Nightingale blade*

*THWACK THWACK TH-Wuuuaahhhh?*

*Looks at Razor*

"Awesome."

Hmm, just got it (top tier - I am level 80) and I will give a comparison:

Mehrunes' Razor (Legendary) - 106 damage - Small chance to instantly kill
Daedric Dagger (Legendary) - 171 damage - Absorb 23 points of health. Chance to paralyze for 5 seconds.

I have NO idea why Beth though it was a good idea to make unique items so much lower quality than that of crafted. What is the point of collecting and finding these artifacts if what I can make at level 20 is better? Anyways, I won't find myself using it. It will go on display next to my Blade of Woe.

PS - Both the Razor and Daedric were upgraded with 4 pieces of +29% smithing gear and a +130% smithing potion so +246% smithing. I also have 5/5 Armsman.

I use it only for roleplaying reasons...I killed Otar the Mad in one hit and I really HATED that feeling of "cheating" the kill lol.
So basically, if I'm sneaking/doing DB missions I use the Razor...as soon as I'm out of sneak I pull ou my 2 twin Ebony swords.

For those who say dagger's are OP. Ask yourself this:

Would you be happier if when your TRAINED ASSASSIN tries to cut a guys throat, instead of cutting his throat, you only yield like 50% damage, and now you have to fight him toe to toe with a pair of letter openers? ;)

the strength of daggers lie in their sneak attack. In a straight fight daggers are a poor choice of armament (Low damage, short reach, don't benefit from one-handed enchantments)

I am actually quite good standing toe to toe with a draugr deathlord or a dragon with 2 Daedric Daggers. I have 46 absorb health, paralyze enchantment, duel flurry (increased attack speed by 30%?) and 50% increased power attack damage. Overall I find that the dagger damage is perfect for what I am looking for.

I did the whole 500 damage Daedric sword thing with 4 +one-handed damage enchants, etc. I found it boring how easy it was. Now I am wearing armor that looks cool (nightingale) and no +fortify damage.

With the Razor and my playstyle like this I need the absorb health over the small chance to kill. Also the lack of 65 damage might be too much. I rarely do sneak attacks because I don't find them challenging. Anyways my 2 cents.

For a number of reasons, I don't upgrade Daedric weapons beyond the standard Level 100 Smithing upgrade.. If a unique weapon (such as the Razor) is inferior to it's Daedric counter-part in base damage, I stack the Smithing % enchant items until it is equal to (or slightly less) it's Daedric counterpart.. Doesn't really matter in the end, since the majority of Unique weapons deplete there enchantments in one or two encounters.. Making it a pain in the #*@ to maintain them. Crafted versions are better anyways (IMO). But for RP purposes I still use the Nightingale Bow, and just switch to the Blade of Woe instead of the Razor.

Odd. I couldn't upgrade Mehrune's Razor at the Grindstone - it wouldn't show up. Am I doing something wrong?

You need the perk to be able to upgrade already enchanted weapons/armor. I also have every heavy armor perk (up the right side). Dunno if it is needed (the Razor requires an Ebony Ingot to upgrade), so you might need the ebony smithing perk, not sure.

I suggest saving the game then attempting different perks, etc. Just in case they aren't needed and you don't waste them.
