Melee Animations

IKR? People these days always thinking of crazy things, next you will see the primary way to level up on a rpg is getting experience points!

Not to mention soccer games where they use a bal to play with.

Isn't that true of most games?

My point is, why bother with the knife? Unless you really have no other option (out of ammo, in a bind, etc.) the gun is always the better choice. (not talking about stealth based games, where subtlety and silence are needed.) And in Brink, you can have a silencer, so even the stealthy part of using a knife, doesn't really apply.

And in the case of BC2 specifically (since there's around a 50% chance your knife attack will not kill the intended target) shooting is always the better option.

I have played BC2 for over 300hrs. and only have 48 melee kills. It is my goal to never hit the 100 and 200 melee kill insignias. (Yes, I'm actually priding myself on not achieving something in a game.)
It's an FPS game - the S stands for "shooter" not "stabber."

I like myself some melee-ing in shooter games. In the Crysis 2 demo I actually try to assassinate the top-scoring player of the enemy team as much as possible.

Yeah, knife > gunbutt.

I hope they make the knifing smooth though. It was hard as sh*t in Bad Company 2, being used to CoD. I didn't like the animation in BC2 either, the other games made it feel much more powerful.

Yeah, but a lot of times the CoD knifing looked like you punched the person and was very buggy.

Something I was wondering about, is whether melee from behind will have access to a stealth/instant kill, like in Crysis 2 or Halo? Seeing as I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere I suspect the answer to this is no.

No, no ohko, not even by backstabbing.

Knifing in COD usually means you stab thin air and somebody dies.

Meh, I get no basic OHK by melee from one stab etc from the front, but the brutal melee system in KZ3 at least justifies the OHK, especially if only able to be performed from behind, such as in Crysis2 and Aliens vs Predator.

I'm interested to see how knockdowns work in this game, as they would be a great compromise between OHK melee, and the guys who moan about it.

Those assassination-moves from Killzone or Crysis are much more balanced than Call of Duty or Battlefield OHKs, though. They require about 2 seconds in which you can be gunned down easily.

Knockdowns basicly put you into a "Last Stand" as in Call of Duty.

I totally agree. In KZ3 in particular, you can be saved up until about half way through the animation of somebody shoots your attacker fast enough. It's awesome. That being said, I understand that this isn't KZ3, if it were I wouldn't be pre-ordering it as I already own the former lol.

The knockdown putting you into last stand sounds cool, it looks as though it'll produce some interesting CQC options, as well as allowing you to potentially take on multiple attackers/escape by flooring them.

Totally agree. I'd actually rather melee was not OHK but with no cooldown, than OHK but with that damn long waiting period.

In MAG's early days, the knife had the range of a freakin' katana. It was nuts, you'd have people going knife-only the whole match... and actually doing really well. I really hope SD haven't made THAT mistake here...

Yeah, the knife range should definitely not be too great. You'd think with all the game physics they'd be able to accurately determine the scale of the knife range.

Thta being said, I hope the knife animation is a stab of some kind. Unless you land it right on their throat there is no way a reverse grip slash is going to magically put people on their asses.

Knife slashes dont knock people down like gun butt does, but it does a damn sight more damage.

Cutting someone on the face with a reverse grip slash wouldn't do life threatening damage. If you cut them on the forehead it would end up reducing vision through blood in the eyes, but apart from that you're looking at little more than some nasty scars.

A stab in the eye with a 6' blade however.. Death.

EDIT; plus, the reverse grip slash used in CoD means massively reduced range in comparison to more conventional knife grips.

Even then, it svcks and wastes the size of the blade. Try it yourself, reverse grip any knife and do the slashing movement; not ony is this incredibly weak compared to cuts with a normal grip, but you instantly lose reach because the blade can't be in front of your wrist. Try the same thing with a normal grip and you'll see what I mean.

But it looks cool! Isnt that the point? COD understands this.

Cool looking > fun gameplay
