Melee aspects?

Post » Sun May 30, 2010 9:45 am

Ok I was wondering what type of CQC there is. What I mean is if you are close to or sneak up on a guy can you knife or beat them down like in Bc2 or Halo? Not some over powered knife like in cod. I like Bad companys knifing because you have to wait to hit them an such some thing like that.

Scroll down to the regarding multiplayer, there's a list of different melee options. Please also read HORSE's compendium (there's a link included in the topic I just gave you)

No problem and welcome to the forums.

I highly advise you to read as much as possible before posting. A lot of questions have been answered before or are covered in HORSE's compendium. Since we lack new information, a lot of people will reply angry because theu just discussed the same thing a week ago. To prevent this, you should use the search function and try to follow the different topics a bit. Just giving some guidelines, you're not obliged to do this, it will only prevent frustration.

....your probly gonna get grief for this topic since its been discussed, and argued over... alot...
EDIT: Ahhhhh beaten again by Dysfunkshion lol geez I must take awhile to write these.
Im just gonna give out links to your unoffical FAQ from now on lol (Horse is a little too detailed, dont wanna be too spoilt)

As far as I Understand it there is a melee. No OHK Melee, but a melee, I think it can knock people down where then another melee could down for bonus exp (I think). Also slide tackle can knock enemies down too. Also Pistols have a knife but probably does the same as normal melee.
I think it's unconfirmed that operatives will have a back-stab ability.

Slide won't knock people down anymore.
People only think operatives have some sort of backstab ability because of TF2.

Operatives (Covert Ops) had backstab in both of Splash Damage's previous games, that is why it is expected to be in Brink.

It's funny because I'm not even using a computer. :P and I appreciate that you're going to give links to it, I put a lot of time and effort in it (a whole afternoon of studying xD).

@lizzrd: Link? I've never seen it or heard about the knockdown being removed after sliding.

For me this is unconfirmed. There are 5 things that can convince me:

- An official statement
- The particular video/interview
- HORSE's compendium
- Shadowcat
- Wraith

Sorry, can't remember which vid, but it mentioned sliding and knocking people down as overpowered atleast.

Here is what Richard Ham said on sliding:

"Slide is basically hitting the crouch button while sprinting. You can spam them like crazy, but on the whole, you'll end up being a little slower that just sprinting normally. It's really there as a defensive maneuver (smaller low target), to get under low things, and as a melee attack...don't worry. it does no damage at all, and i don't think anyone would complain of it being overpowered. it's part of the broader melee package that's i'm not supposed to talk about but which has a very different approach than the standard shooter fare. I imagine there'll be stuff revealed about it in the new year. "

The only thing that they considered overpowered, were sliding finishing moves, as explained by Neil Alphonso:

"We experimented with slide fatalities (we never called them that, I'm just saying it now because it sounds cool), but it made it too easy to finish somebody off, while making yourself a low profile target at the same time."

Also, as far as I know, slide tackles are still in.

I also don't know anything about the tackle to be taken out completely. But it's not really a CQC-ability anyway, because as you can see in various videos, the slide does cover quite a distance.

Agreed slide tackling is still in. PIty about not having a slide tackle finish. Throw a grenade to knock them back then slide tackle them in the head for the win.
