Melee with a Giant... really?

Post » Sun Aug 21, 2011 10:36 pm

Did it bother anyone else how unrealistic the giant-fighting experience in the E3 2011: IGN Live video looked? They'd swing they're huge club at him, and he'd stick up his puny shield... I think it would make more sense for him to be dead, on impact, or to go flying through the air. Same with the mammoth. If you want to fight something 4 times your size, whatever you do, DON'T LET THEM HIT YOU!

Well if you look at David and Goliath, you would see how that looked even more unrealistic with just a sling and a rock but yet he managed to kill Goliath.

As much as I do agree a bit more physicality behind larger creatures would be nice, it would also increase difficulty factor a large amount and probably make Dragons overkill.

However, you do realize you're talking about "fantasy", right?

Yes lets look to the bible for realism.

It did bother me a bit, needs to be a better knockback effect, or try to doge a little more.

Also, don't make biased posts

Don't forget the 'real to life' dragons they have in the game.

I'm sure it would do a lot of damage regardless of whether you block it or not.

Next time I go attack a giant i'll let you know how realistic the potrayal was.

Admit that your poll is just a way to divide the no votes so it looks like there's less of them in relation to the Yes votes.

I'm just going to let you speak for me.

Too bad they probably won't implement a dodge.

I'd fight it the same way if I was immersed into Skyrim. I'd just stabbity stab stab until it bled out or something while either taking his blows, dodging them, or blocking them. It seems perfectly realistic. After all, someone as buff as me won't go flying from a hit like that. I'm well grounded.

I hope there isn't nuts that are bibles reading right now.

I didn't understand that, but I'll go out on a limb and assume that was a put-down aimed at religous folk.

That's against the forum rules :whistling:

"No. And I like boys...."

Very mature. Anyway, it's a game. I admit that it should be something similar to the Gatekeeper in the Shivering Isles, but these giants could be weak for all we know. Its Elder Scrolls, it's not the world's most sensible fantasy seeing,

No, and I like boys.

Because I'm a girl.

Spoiler
I actually like girls but whatever, don't ruin my joke.

I don't think the giants and mammoths are really supposed to be super strong to the extent of knocking someone great distances from a single swing. I can't say I really expect them to be any different from the other types of enemies we've encountered in past games. It would be cool to have each enemy have their own unique fighting experience, but I think that may be a little too much to ask.

Clearly your point has merit.

Clearly we would have a broken game if they kept to such strict rules.

I'm not being sarcastic, about it.. But I think if you're ready to accept "dude fights dragons" you should be willing to accept "dude fights giants". If you don't - your priorities seem a little confused.
But yeh, if they did that.. what would we play?

You shouldn't view it as something immature/an insult. I like boys. Nothing wrong with that!

But obviously magic is the reason we can take them on. Magic is the reason behind everything unrealistic.
