The Urshilaku camp quests leading up to the Cavern of the Incarnate, and finally entering the cavern itself. It brought back childhood memories of Ali Baba and the Arabian night stories, an Aladdin cave of wonders haunted by the ghosts of failed champions.

the Cavern of the Incarnate, and finally entering the cavern itself.

definetely a memorable moment. in morrowind it is that or holamayan that gives the main quest a clear purpose.

first time at red mountain, getting stuff around there, and terrified over everything, which was correct at the time being.

Encountering a Mythic Dawn sleeper agent in the IC Market. I thrashed him good, but didn't get to finish the job. See, this random woman came flying in from behind me and socked the guy right in the head. With ten of her closest friends (well, mine, actually) right behind her.

Had to stop fighting. I'd have half-killed some poor citizen if I'd have missed. The guards barely got there before random citizens did!

Hmm my favourite moments of the TES series....

Morrowind:

The first time I killed everyone in a daedric ruin, and then took the gems at the statue only to turn around and see a very scary looking dremora looking right at me with his claymor drawn, I was like arrgghh where the hell did he come from D:

After finally killing the dremora and accidently clicking on the statue instead of the gems, the daedric prince in question starts talking and I'm thinking wtf is he talking to me? O_o

After I got got lost in the wilderness of morrowind for several in game days and finally managed to find my way back to a city, that feeling of releif of finding civilisation again was un true, I wished my character could have laid on the floor and kissed the ground to be honest.

Finding myself in the middle of cliff racer mating season or something and trying to fend of 10 of the bloody things as they chased after me while i willed my levitation spell to make me move faster.

Completeing the Main quest and feeling a real sense of accomplishment.

After I completed the main quest, it felt so good that the ordinators didn't refer to me as 'scum' any more.

Completing Tribunal and actually being really angry with Almelxia because I really really thought Sotha Sil would be the cool one and I never got to speak to him.

Oblivion:

Getting one of my skills, I can't remember which one but I think it was security to a high level of 90. (My character is female) I walked past a male gaurd who looked at me and said "You look like one with nimble fingers" My face went O_O then I ran away from him.

Accidently picking up a plate in an Anvil inn, not actually picking it up and putting it in my inventory, just holding it in front of my face and throwing it across the room to marvel the the games engine... only to have the bar tender yell at me that I was a theif, I left the inn quickly and saw not just one but 5 gaurds running at me, I let them arrest me and take me to the castle, but when my screen loaded,... I'm not joking... I was in the Anvil court yard with no less that 50 guards surrounding me. Possibly one of the most amusing glitches, I didn't know they were so offended by bowl throwing in Anvil.

Having my sneak skill quite high and creeping around a dungeon, I drew my bow and shot a guy in the face with an arrow to which he says "must have been the wind." <---- WTF o_O that must be really really agressive wind.

Listening to conversations between NPCs, I've heard some really priceless ones. I think one of my favourites went something like this;

NPC1: Have you heard about the Emperor and this three sons dead!
NPC2: *snorts loudly through his nose*
NPC1: *coughs*
NPC2: I walked across a couple of mudcrabs the other day, horrible creatures
NPC1: *snorts loudly through her nose*
NPC2: Good day.
NPC1: Be seeing you.

I'm going to just go ahead and not comment on this....

My all-time favorite memorable moments come from Morrowind.
The world was so alien it made a complete fool out of me the first time I played it and I loved every minute of it. I was afraid of nearly everything that moved - would that siltstrider tread on me accidentally? Was that floating netch going to zap me as soon as it spotted me? Can I be friends with that nix-hound? I was constantly hiding or sneaking behind bushes and rocks out of fear and ignorance. And the world kept getting stranger and better as I went along.

I don't think that anything quite compares to the level of immersion as I explored Morrowind for the first time.

In Oblivion probably the most memorable moments are the sense of foreboding & doom when Baurus escorted me through the sewers - I knew that one wasn't going to work out too well, and it didn't! :( - to say nothing of the sense of futility when Martin took on Mehrunes Dagon as a dragon. I love the random ambushes on the roads too - not the Khajiit highwaymen - the random encounters that can turn into epic knock-down drag out high-speed chases. And tramping the back-roads in the wilderness parts of Cyrodiil and finding little beauty-spots in the unlikeliest of places.

I think my first enconter with the scrolls of icarian flight was the best but only because when I first used it I was sure I would end up a puddle of bosmer on the ground but some how I just ended up in the middle of an ocean somewhere...now that I think about it though that kinda svcked because I realised my poor little bosmer couldnt swim for sh**

For me? There are so many! The one i can think of now is when i was wandering around the Jerall Mountains and was instantly killed by the the Uderfrykte Matron at level one... I must have jumped like 2 meters into the air.
Another was when i first played Oblivion when i was 10 or somthing. I had just beaten the Grey Prince and was then ready to start the main quest when... BY AZURA! BY AZURA! BY AZURA!

"Jesus Christ it's a giant yak!!! No wait it's just a large boulder."
My mates couldn't stop laughing at me

Luring guards into the University and watching the mages kill him before they shouted "Someones been murdered!"

Watching a necromancer drown

"Go speak to the begger to get some information on your theiving mission. Oh wait you can't cause you plastered him to the wall with an arrow!!!"

...I didn't know how to watch the map so I just traveled around being extremely surprised every time I found a new settlement or city. An amazing feeling I will never forget...

The exact same thing happened to me. That's what I did for about two weeks, roam around discovering things. The first city I found was Skingrad, I was like, "Cool! A castle!" And then I discovered the map...

Another memorable moment was when I first saw a silt strider. I was thinking, "What the heck is that thing?" And another, when I first got mauled by those stupid orcs in the Sheogorad region. I spent what seemed like hours trying to kill them and also to run away when I realized that they were unbeatable (I was at a low level).

The most memorable moment in Morrowind was when the revelation suddenly hit me that those surrounding hills and mountains, walls and buildings, and everything else, was merely an obstruction for the "unskilled", and that with a little Levitation or a decent Jump spell I could go anywhere in the game (except in Mournhold, unfortunately). That feeling of freedom was sadly lacking in Oblivion, where you're bound to the surface or at least close to it, and all those rubble piles and walls are actual "barriers".

First time playing Morrowind I was walking around the starter town getting killed by mudcrabs, then later finding my way into a womans house and she beat me to death with her broom.

Then in Oblivion right after coming out of the sewers I walked around and was again killed by mudcrabs then died from the bandit camp right after.

Well I haven't finished Morrowind yet, haven't even got to the first quest, but the moment I most remember so far is the Bosmer falling from the sky right in front of me. Then using his scroll in ignorance and shooting straight up into the air.
In Oblivion it had to either be first wandering through the beautiful world or shooting a lightning bolt at a bear and watching it fly at least 10 ft. behind me.

I remember that  took all his stuff, his sword is my signature weapon

One thing I remember from Morrowind was encountering my first Cliff-racer,

"So this is the famous cliff racer *Click, Click* he's dead. OMG here come two more!!"

I never saw a huge challenge with cliff racers, just move around a lot and keep on clicking.

Me: 24
Cliff racers: 0

Most memorable moment in Morrowind is waking up and having a faceless zombie in my home. Or possibly wandering into a random tomb/mine/whatever and finding Eleidon's Ward. Good times.

Although pilfering the Hlaalu vault was pretty good too. How dare they kick me out their house for something as petty as multiple counts of murder.

Feeling a sense of accomplishment never felt before from a game by completing Morrowind's MQ. When I looked back on it I realized how much of a mountain it was to climb in comparison to Oblivion, especially with no little green arrow.

It is perhaps telling that Morrowind can seldomly be complimented without deriding Oblivion in the same post.

Vaermina's shrine quest in Oblivion was certainly one for the ages. Arkved's tower is probably one of my favorite dungeons, from any game.

A big one for me was after completing Morrowind's main quest;
Spoiler
emerging from the collapsing Red Mountain, the Sixth House and Dagoth Ur finally put to an end as well as his blight upon the land, and the sun, once again, shining through the vast, open blue skies..

Well, when something that was seen as beneficial in Morrowind was removed or skewed via mechanics in Oblivion, then it seems perfectly logical and reasonable to deride Oblivion in that context.

EDIT: In fact, I wouldn't even go so far as to call it derision. It's simply acknowledging that something beloved or memorable was not present or was done to the opposite effect in other titles.

Also: My first time seeing a Silt Strider, and realizing that its legs seem to be stronger than stone pillars.

As others have mentioned, the shot after emerging from the sewers in Oblivion is just amazing. Moving from that confined, claustrophobic space to the vastness of Oblivion's overworld is, I think, one of the defining moments of this generation of gaming.

Morrowind provided some pretty memorable moments too, though. Most of them were generated whilst playing the game with my friend and griefing various townspeople ad infinitum. Good times.

I'd have to agree with you there. Not only was Oblivion my first Elder Scrolls game, as well as my first "open world" game, but it was my first real "next gen" experience. It wasn't my first game I played on the 360, but it was certainly the most memorable. I remember not having the slightest clue what to do with myself when I stepped out of the sewers with this big beautiful game-world out there.

The ending of Morrowind, walking down Red Mountian under clear skies. It just gave me a happy feeling.

And throwing the Adoring Fan off Dive Rock for the first time. That's up there too.
