Men in skirts

Post » Fri May 07, 2010 8:23 am

Id like some opinions on this subject, first some background

I used to do a lot of belegarth, which is somewhat like larping without the rp aspect. And in order to fight you have to be in medieval style clothing, so i would wear a wrap skirt and just fight in that as it offered a lot of mobility, recently its been getting up above 100F in my area, and while digging though my box of summer clothes i found my bright red wrap skirt, and basically decided screw it, put it on and went about my day. i must say its the most comfortable thing ive ever worn, and keeps me quite cool as well.

just out of curiosity what do you all think about men in skirts in westernized societies? im not 100% sure i want to keep going with it, as ive received some scorn from family (mostly my father and brother) but then can bite me amiright?

Honestly - as long as people aren't hurting anyone, they should do whatever the hell they want.

I would guess most people would probably want to call you homophobic names, though.

Here, you are going to get a post-modern view. As in "it's totally alright. Screw everyone else."

So you won't hear much "Men wearing skirts are sick".

They have bathrobes for a reason... I'm assuming you don't intend to wear the skirt outside.

As much as you want to say "screw everyone else", your image in the eyes of others DOES matter unless you're some kind of super genius.

Apparently, "Modern" was the stuff related to the Enlightenment. Postmodern is what we are in/going into now, since we are starting to reject a lot of the terms, theories, and thoughts held during the Enlightenment and Modern periods. It mostly has to do with Culture, but it can be applied to other areas as well.

Still makes it pretty far from common.

I don't personally have an issue with this but it certainly is unconventional.

How does one become post modern? :P

Because a group of people were silly enough to call their philosophy "Modernism" so the trend that followed became "Post-Modernism"

There's a guy at my dad's work always wears skirts and dresses. And bras. He also has a big grey beard. Yeah, people laugh about it, but he doesn't care.

Personally, I'm not "post-modern" enough to think it's not weird. Just get a kilt, then you actually become more manly.

You're gonna get some looks. Some pretty odd, possibly nasty looks. Cause it is, indeed, very weird.

Fallen, if you want to go out in a dress, then do it. The opinions of people you see at the store are unimportant (although i recommend shaving your legs if you're going to wear skirts). Best of luck to you, Fallen.

Over here, I think the odd and nasty looks would be at a minimal.

Since guys wearing skirts are not common I would have to take a look. Of course, if he saw me lookin I would nod, as I always do, a way of saying Hi.

Fallen, if you feel that people in your community would be disgusted or disturbed by you, a male, wearing a skirt. I say go for it, for the hell of it. Just to slam it in their faces. I know I would put on a skirt just to make someone mad, if it did get them mad. Even though Im not into wearing skirts.

As long as you don't wear it in public, then sure, why not, wear it all day long. But unless you enjoy having every single person on the road or on the sidewalk staring at you while they pass by, then you probably don't want to wear it outside. Oh sure you can say "who cares what others think" and blah blah blah but I think you'll find not wearing a skirt in public to be a good thing.

Dont listen to this. Wear it when you please.

Just remember to hold it when your on a very busy road (cars n trucks passing by) and when your waiting for a train in a subway station, and when you are walking up stairs (just in case, for courtesy), if it sticks out.
