Merchant inventory not refreshing?

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 10:11 pm

This may or may not be a glitch, but I'm wondering if everyone's game is doing this:

Merchants in my game never seem to change their inventory. I sold some guns to the Gun Runners a while ago and they've been there for ages. Otherwise I've heard they're supposed to refresh every three days, offering new and better weapons as your level increases, but they're still offering the same guns offered since day one and the guns I've sold to them can STILL be found in their inventory. It's not just the Gun Runners either; for all I know, it could be every merchant. Gun Runners is simply the shop that I've kept note of their inventory the longest.

Is this normal?

I also noticed this issue (before the patch at least - haven't tested it since). Some helpful person on this forum figured out that if you save your game while standing in front of the merchant in question and then quit and reload, the inventory should be refreshed. That's worked for me pretty much every time.

Probably something to do with the fact that the day resets to Sunday every time you load a save. So unless you play several game days straight, the merchants won't get new stuff. The only time I see a new inventory is when I level up and the merchants switch to a new levelled list. Travelling merchants never get new gear/caps.

Like what?? Every time you start the game it's Sunday!!?? What about the continuation button??

What a train wreck, this game is a sad example of people just publishing something/anything to get a cash flow. Bethesda may have permanently lost my business for "new" games.

Yeah, it's easy to reproduce. Load a save, hit the 'wait' key, and it will say Sunday, and the date. wait for 24-48 hours, or whatever, save, quit the game, reload and you'll be back to Sunday - but the date and time will be right.

Merchants update their inventory every 3 days (I think), but I don't know if that goes by date or day (I'm guessing day, because it's not working). If you get killed/crash/leave your PC to give your eyeballs a rest before you reach Wednesday, then merchants won't ever get new stock because you'll keep going back to Sunday.

And yeah, nothing like paying full price for an open beta. Beth/Obsidian could at last sticky a dedicated bug report thread to give the illusion they care.

From what i know and have read, they have tried to make it realistic so that it actually takes time, and from what Ive seen waiting 3 days doesn't always cut. i was always seeing the same inventory i sold to the gun runners every time until i read that the gun runners restock in between monday and wednesday so i would try ignoring them for some time and coming back after wednesday, cause thats what worked for me.
