Merchants Guild

So I was just reading a thread and came up with another idea for Skyrim. I know the dev’s probably don’t read this stuff but I feel better knowing that I at least tried to put it forward. On a side note I love that about TES, the content is there even if you don’t do it. E.g Say I didn’t enjoy sneaking around and stealing from people, this means I would have no interest in the Thief’s Guild, however a lot of other people around the globe love it, so I could spend a life time on TES and avoid doing the thief’s guild all together but it’s there for anyone else to do and at the same time adds a whole new concept for an immersive world that doesn’t affect my character directly but is nice to know it goes on! I like being spoilt for choice.

And so.

The Merchant’s Guild

I would like to see an option for those of you out there who love the mercantile side of things. Having guild’s in each city that are a central trading hub. Quest where you can eliminate rivals, branch out and make your own company, employ staff, barter with your suppliers (using some forceful persuasive techniques to get that better price?) follow convoys of your stock up and down the country to protect it from bandits (this would make bandit camps more purposeful and realistic as well as using the fighters guild to higher men to protect your stock). Going to banquets to network and sum up competitors, as well as make backhanded deals and suffer for it from the law. And whilst this is all going on your earning and losing money as you attempt to become the number one trading company! It would certainly add some worth to the mercantile skill.

Whilst some of you are doing this I will be plundering tombs to make money or attempting to raid one of your convoys for coffee and ore, Thanks!

Once again thanks for reading.

I think that would be a pretty boring guild. all these elements can be incorporated in the game without making some stupid guild where people trade stuff just like people who are not in this guild trade stuff

I'm sorry you feel that way.

Maybe I didn't explain myself better. I meant that trading happens on a large scale adding a whole new dynamic to the nearly pointless merchantile skill.

Also your logic is pretty flawed, it would be like me saying. The Darkbrotherhood? that's a boring guild, all the elements of that can be incorporated in the game without some stupid guild where you are given a contract to kill someone, I could walk into any random tavern and stab someone in the back.

Didn't they have quests like those in daggerfall? I never had the oppertunity to do any (too busy getting lost in endless mazes) but they sounded fairly interesting.

I am sorry to say I never played Daggerfall. Never really played PC's like that.

But if they did that would be awesome as it means they might consider putting it in.

It's free on the bethesda website. You just need dosbox to run it.
It should work on fairly old computers as it worked on my really slow and old laptop with no problems.

Morrowind had two factions I can think of that were concerned primarily with commerce: House Hlaalu in vanilla and the East Empire Company in Bloodmoon. The quests weren't quite as dynamic as what you describe, but it is something that can work.

This is not a completely new idea. I have see about 5 threads on merchant guilds, but I like the idea. Why don't you put some more thought into it and make an outline. How do players start in the guild. How do they advance and what advancement quest can you think of. Maybe layout some guild a few activitys that you can repeat over and over tell us how you would be able to do them, what choices you can make with them, and what would make them fun to do.
