Merchants/Travelers?

Post » Tue Nov 10, 2009 5:18 am

The idea popped into my head when I was playing Fallout the other day, similar to the caravaner that would travel around would you like to see merchants on horses/ in carriages traveling along the main roads? I mean it would certainly be interesting to see a Dragon swoop down and attack one of these groups. And if there are carriages would you like there to be the option of being able to mount up with them, as a sort of guard, and get paid for your services?

The lack of travelers was pretty disappointing in Oblivion. Fallout 3 did it better, with the wandering Caravans, but still not quite there, and prone to rather dangerous paths, that could put them in touch with a Super Mutant Behemoth.

New Vegas on the other hand, did things pretty admirably. Though, the world itself was very small. The map size ~may~ have been the size of Oblivion, but the actual usable land was more like the size of Vvardenfell, if you actually know where all the invisible borders are, so the game came off way too small and dense for a wasteland.

I think it would be great to see traveling parties from the different factions. Depending on your relationship with them, they would either attack you, ignore you, or provide services.

Just curious, do you play on a PC or console? The reason i ask is , if you play on PC there will probably be a mod for it. There
is already a traveling merchants mod for Oblivion, so i would think it will be made for Skyrim as well.

def want to see more merchants on the road. I would also like to see just regular npcs going from town to town for whatever reason. In oblivon and morrowind it felt like you were the only one out there most of the time which you were

Yea merchants/travelers would be a nice addition. It would make the roads seem a bit more alive, instead of you being pretty much the only one on roads like in Oblivion. You should have the ability to buy varoius items from them. It would also be cool if they told you a story about themselves, like where they are from/what they think of the unrest taking place in Skyrim.

Traveling merchants would be nice. How about they include a quest where you have to track one of them down hot or cold style with a magic rock.
