Merging Armor Excuse Was A Load Of Crap

More NPC's on screen at once? Barely, if it all.

Give me back my armor pieces. Stop streamlining. Stop lying.

Consider that without merging, they might not have been able to have even as many NPCs as they do now. The 360/PS3 can only handle so much; when they add new things in, they have to cut the compute budget from elsewhere.

If the game were PC only, then we might be able to get somewhere.

At least there is still wearable clothing and the armor isn't just one single piece.

I still miss pauldrons though ...

Streamlining. How is it streamlining? How? That's an incredibly stupid statement. In fact, this way makes more sense. You can't smack different peices of armor together as easily as you think.

@Ginger What? Oblivion was on 360/PS3 and the NPC's on screen in Skyrim is not much of an improvement. If at all.

ironically im not bothered by the merging because i like the look of most of the armors, but im quite bothered by the lack of NPCs. if there was any technical reason for merging armor, it was to allow better graphics and have clusters of NPCs at all, considering its the same tech they made oblivion with.

so technically, it wasnt a lie. which to me makes it worse...

Yeah that was a lie, the towns seem emptier than before really. Less armor choices and less NPCs, and no greaves slot. Looks pretty though....and it was probably easier to design matching armor...rather than making sure all the armor mixed and matched properly. I guess the real reason was to make greaves separate it would be more work. I wish they would say that...that it would be faster and easier for them to merge it.

Assuming they weren't just lying about the armor merge, the resources they saved might have allowed them to improve things like graphics and add in shadows.

Sure, they can unmerge armor, then you'll have even less NPCs.

Merging armor pieces makes it easier to draw shadows as there is less combination of pieces, meaning less effort overall. That means the shadows can be more detailed.

Its a small thing, but imo not an issue. It just reduces the number of items to equip by 1.

Yeah, wasn't a fan of the merger, and haven't seen anything out of the ordinary that tells me I'm getting extra performance with them merged. Then again, Im on PC.

There is barely any correlation between armor pieces and npc's on screen. Morrowind had a large scale war mod, Oblivion can't handle a bunch of UNCLOTHED NPC'S OVER 8 and skyrim can handled THOUSANDS OF CHEESE WHEELS at a time

it doesn't have anything to do with armor peices and more to do with AI processing, and if you've seen the VERSES series vids you'll know the game can handled upwards of 20 NPCs at once.

please just more streamlining for nothing.

No shadows?! I didn't even notice lol. I'm gonba have to check that out when I get off work. I did notice though that all my characters seem to have a slight glow around them. Not sure if it's just me. On Xbox btw. This game is amazing though. I would love it even of it had morrowind a graphics cause I was playing that game till the day I got skyrim.

The graphics are better. That's the issue, they remove more customisation in the armor, keep the same number of NPC's are are able to improve the graphcis.
