Merging UL Mods

Post » Wed Mar 09, 2011 12:06 am

I did not get an answer in the UL thread so figure to throw this question out to everyone.

Has anyone successfully merged any UL mods? I am getting squezzed for space so was looking at that possibility. To start with I was thinking to merge the UL mods that do not require a patch from my other mods.

If that works, If I merge them all and change the master of the specific patches to be the merged file that should work also, I think.

In theory anyway.

I've never had any luck merging UL mods. It's a messy business because they're so complicated, and not recommended. I did merge all my UL patches, though -- saved about 20 esp slots or more.

It is apparently possible, but not recommended (someone did it back a while ago).

It's generally not a good idea to try because too many things are dependent on them being the way they are. Merging also runs into the problem of the formIDs changing during the merge process because Gecko is trying to avoid collisions. That's disruptive to existing patches and any potential future patches. It's not something the UL Council supports and we've been over it enough in the UL thread that it's just not something we care to get into any more.

It's probably better to use CBash to merge the ones it can merge in Wrye Bash provided you don't need the AI Packages patcher for something in your load order because several UL patches can be merged that way without any harm done.

Thanks for the answers, I can put this to bed. I'll stay away from merging them but will look at merging the patches. Just need to wait for CBash to be released.

Isn't CBash already included with Wrye Bash, just disabled by default?

CBash still being worked on. Causes some CTDs for me and some oddities for me if I use it so am waiting for the official release.
