Merging Mods With Ini Files

Post » Wed Feb 09, 2011 2:53 pm

Edit: Never mind that question...how do you merge patches for quest mods with voice files. I was trying to merge some quest delayers, but Gecko merged the name of the sound files (definitely not good.) Is there something special I need to do, or can I just combine them with TES4Edit?

IIRC, Gecko merges the voice file references from the respective mods into the new mod it creates.
Then you must create the new voice folder and copy the voice files from the old mod's folder into the folder you just created.

Detail:
Merge mod a.esp and mod b.esp
Gecko creates merged plugin.esp
Manually create the Sound\voice\merged plugin.esp folder.
Copy the files from Sound\voice\mod a.esp and sound\voice\mod b.esp itno the new Sound\voice\merged plugin.esp.

You should be good to go.

Yes, but I do not want to merge the sound files together. I am not merging the quests, just the delayers. I guess I will just have to try it out then.

Thanks for the reply!

Sorry, misunderstood.

Are you talking about merging a delayer patch into the original?
If so, it is so much easier to use TES4Edit to change the scripts and whatnot of the orginal. A simple drag and drop.

If not, I'm afraid I don't understand what you are trying to do.

No, I have these four separate delayers in my load order. I blindly tried to merge them with TES4Gecko, but TES4Gecko edits the sound/voice paths to match the name of the merged plugin. I just need to combine them with TES4Edit. I am trying to make a merged plugin containing the four delayers, not merge each delayer into its respective parent quest mod.

I gotcha.
Your're essentially recreating my Bashed Delayers ( except maybe you don't want to merge them. )

That's pretty simple and straight forward.

First, open TES4Edit with the orginals and the patches.
After it finishes loading, right click anywhere in the right-hand pane and select "Create Merged Patch".
Type in the name you want the new esp to be (as it says, do not enter an extension).
Right click on the new esp and select "Add Masters".
Check Oblivion.esm. Do not select any others.
Expand the original esps and right click on each script and \ or quest that the delayers change.
Select "Copy as override into..."
Check your new esp. Click OK.
Click yes to add the original as a master.
After you've added all the changes to your new esp, I suggest you close TES4edit and save your new esp.
(At this point, I always manually override the load order and put the new esp between the orginals and the patches, but I do not think it is actually necessary. It makes it reall easy to see where you need to change the records.)
Reopen TES4Edit and check all the originals, the patches, and the new esp.
Now you should be able to drag and drop the changes from the patches into your new esp.
Close and save.

Oh, right. Thank you! I have your delayers already. Thank you for being so helpful and patient though. I really wanted to add these guys to your plugin, but missing masters makes that a little difficult. I could do something about it, but I do not feel like diving into TESSnip for this. I will just suffer two delayers plugins.

Wow, I did not know there was a "create merged patch." Cool. I have spent many, many hours with TES4Edit, but I missed that feature. That needs to be tucked away into my mental toolbox, thanks again.

If you are thinking about updating your mod later, I am using for of the delayers from the http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25859 upload at TESNexus. In particular, I have installed the delayers for Viconia, HoD, The Forgotten Shields, and GoK.

I can merge all of the delayers except for the Viconia delayer. The obvious difference between the Viconia delayer and the rest is that the Viconia delayer modifies a quest whereas the other modify scripts. When TES4Edit adds the Viconia.esp as a master I get some assertion 1180 error. I can merge the others, so I will go ahead and do that for now.

Thank for the link. That mod was my original inspiration for my delayers.
RL is way too busy ATM, but I will be looking at this.
Glad to hear your question was mostly resolved.
