Meridia, Dawnbreaker and vampires. The ridiculous game flaw.

Post » Thu Mar 20, 2014 1:06 pm

As most of you will already know, Meridia's beacon is a random spawn which prompts a quest called the "The Break of Dawn."

This quest is really quite fun and the Daedric Artefact "Dawnbreaker" is one of the most satisfying weapons in the game.

However, something I found ridiculous is the fact that even if you are a vampire... you can still do the quest.

Meridia loathes the undead. Bad, bad, bad.

I agree, plus the fact she keeps calling my vampire "mortal" and has the snottiest attitude! :stare:

Well, Meridia is either a moron or a hypocrite. Not so different from mortals after all, these daedra :lmao:

Probably because you're still Dragonborn, and worthy as her champion in that way.

Because lolplayercandoeverythingandbecomemrormissdemigod mode is activated as soon as you first click new game.

It is stupid the way a vampire can do that quest. it's stupid the way a vampire can join the companions. it's stupid the way nobody attacks stage 4 vampire playerborns if you have Dawnguard. Atleast they did 1 thing good with vampires in the Dawnguard DLC.
Spoiler
a Vampire can't go through the Dawnguard side of the questline and must be cured before getting any dawnguard quests (not including the begining and dimhollow.)

Another little detail Bethesda overlooked. I've pondered this at times, also.

You can give them a pass on a lot of things, given their persistent hard work. But as I've said before, some things should simply not have bugs, this being one of them.

This is not a bug. It is a deliberate decision made by Bethesda. They did the same thing in Oblivion: we could do Meridia's quest as a vampire in that game too. And they'll probably do it again in TES VI as well.

In my opinion anything not a daedric prince is a mortal. Mortals are beings that can die. Can you die as a vampire? Absolutely you can be killed, just not by natural causes. Undead are also mortal, even tho theyre dead. Take zombies for instance. In zombie lore it is possible for them to starve after a certain amount of time if they dont eat.

Im sorry but people nitpick way too much about this or that and this doesnt make sense or that. Elder scrolls games are massive and theres always always always going to be flaws or things that dont add up or make sense.

I dont let these things bother me. I enjoy the game much more because i dont.

While I agree and think it's an odd thing, Deadric Prince hate's undead, PC is undead, can still do quest..... Their are probably enough people out their that play as vampires all the time that would pitch a royal tantrum if they couldn't do the quest AS a vampire.

I think it would be vastly amusing if when you give the Beacon back as a vampire, Meridia blast's you into Aetherius and the last sentence you hear is her saying something about hating unclean vampires. But that would mean a major choice of not playing as a vampire to do a quest.... wow...choices.

Yes, logically it doesn't make a lot of sense. Let's just pretend that for a moment Bethesda did make it so that vampires couldn't do this quest. Guess what? People would be complaining that they can't do Meridia's quest as a vampire. It's pretty much a no win situation.

That's where role play comes in people. Geez. If Meridia's beacon is found in a chest, I'd assume anyone could find it. Therefore my line of thinking is that Meridia isn't baiting the Dragonborn to ensnare her champion, she just so happens to find them when the Dragonborn is the one to return it. If you are a vampire and presumably have knowledge of the Daedra, then your character should be hesitant or even afraid to return it and face her. That's how I see it so therefore I have no issue with how Bethesda handled this quest. And besides, mainstream gamers who want to do it all with one character should be able to do so.

Not to mention too that as a vampire, you're still being attacked by undead. Why not use the ultimate undead weapon.

Undead usually = reanimated corpse, I think? So in that sense, Skyrim (and I think other ES) vampires aren't really undead, although they are probably sufficiently Wrong and Unclean and Icky that Meridia would still hate them. I love Skyrim a lot, but yeah, it does bug me that there are basically NO consequences for anything you do :/

Not necessarily. AFAIK, you can trigger The Break of Dawn without touching the main quest.

Lol, yes!

And yes.

You have a point, still, this is just another one of those things that shows how little our choices matter in this game. Which some might think is good, or at least no problem (you can mainstream your way through pretty much all quests no matter what) some find absolutely game-breaking (OMG THIS GAME LACKS IMMERSION), and others (like myself) think is a bit inconsistent, and could have been handle in a better way, but no bigger deal than it can be RP'd around.

True, you just have to be level 12 to do it, but the Dragonblood runs through the veins of the player since Unbound - or since Alduin was sent ahead to the Fourth Era. I think... my memory is kind of fuzzy on the Dragonborn lore.

I think a good compromise would be having the Dawnbreaker's explosion effect damage the PC as well  . (if they're a vampire, of course)
