I can't think of what to call mermaids. I thought: They should be elves! They can't be mermaids because that means elf - female, so they'll need a new one.
What about sea elves? Wait, that's taken.
Well maybe they're like deep-sea creature most of the time, to differentiate them I'll call them deep elves. Wait. That's Dwemer.
Ocean elves? Just a synonym of sea.
Salt elves? Lame.

If they were from humans they could maybe be sea men (if they weren't just female), but that's just a sailor... Sea women? Still sounds a bit weird.

What would they call merpeople if they were in the game?

Technically, every elf is a merperson, because all elves are mer.

Not sure why they have to be elves, I think there's enough elves on Nirn as it is. I'd say they're more like the beastfolk/Tsaesci than mer anyway.

Tidedwellers. The males could be called tritons and the females sirens if we go by the standard fish-people concept.

I like the idea of selkies as source material, but they would likely be mammals and would want to spend some of the time out of water. I think there's a lot of potential to turn this into something uniquely TES. Maybe they're old foes of the sloads.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss so many creatures from Daggerfall, in-game books still reference nymphs.

I was refering to the half humanoids with fish tails instead of legs. I did just write a post explaining the problem with actually calling them mermaids, which is entirely based on the fact that elves are mer in TES.

mermer? I actually like that, sounds like murmur, which seems appropiate...
