Hey guys, just wanted you all to know that Arynn is back working on his Galadhrim armor! :)

http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=822514&st=80&start=80

Also, lets keep it up guys! MERP Beta version 0.2.4 is looking great, and I expect the public release to be nothing but praises for all the hard work that has been done!

I'm progressing. Hopefully the outline will be done before you guys catch up to me. Progress has been slow but somewhat steady. Which reminds me, how are we going to handle the surge on the Anduin when the Nazgul try to cross it?

Hello everyone,

As I'm sure you saw, the release of the BETA was scheduled to be on the 31st. Luckily (for you and for me), I'm going on an unplanned trip this week-end so the mod will be released early. It's hosted on several places:
- FileFront (see TESNexus' mirror page)
- http://www.invision.tesalliance.org/forums/index.php?/files/file/294-middle-earth-roleplaying-merp/(kudos to DarkRider for that one)

Some improvements over the last public release:
- You don't have to use the console any more to get to Middle-Earth, an optional plugin grants you spells to teleport to and from there.
- Some armors and weapons are also available. Please note, compared to Oblivion stuff they are VERY powerful.
- More regions are added, of course. I'm quite sure most of you will go to Minas Tirith first, but there is also the Blue Mountains, the Brown Lands... Since us developers had a 0.2.3 version, I'm not really sure how much is new for you. ;) I think Arnor is, maybe Mirkwood too.
Please tell us what you liked and, if you encounter bugs, please report them.

What to look for in the future
We are planning to have the whole map generated by the next merge. The cities won't all be done, but you should be able to travel around without finding empty areas. Also, we'll have our first interiors along with possibly a little quest or two.

Banner Contest
Now, if you are still reading and haven't run off to download MERP, the winner of the banner contest is jack.q.frost. You can see his banner below. I hope he is enjoying his well deserved preview of the game.
Also, thank you to everyone who participated. We kept 5 banners after a first selection and had troubles choosing the winner... It was pretty tough as there are several great artists among our fans. :P

Anyways, off you go now, have fun.

Jnor

Hi,

i have a little problem with the Landscapes, and dont know why.
http://picfront.net/d/7kWP

I deaktivate Shivering Isles and Elsweyr, but that makes no difference and i have no other mods with a new Worldspace.

Step 1:
Deactivate all .esp's and .esm's. All! Don't save bettergoldcoins.esp for old times sake, deactivate everything.

Step 2:
Activate Oblivion.esm and DLCshiveringisles.esp

Step 3:
Start up Oblivion and go into the TAMRIEL worldspace. I.E. make sure you are outdoors in Tamriel and not inside.

Step 4:
Walk a few feet.

Step 5:
Save, this is called a clean save. Then exit the game.

Step 6:
Make sure you have downloaded these files:
http://www.filefront.com/15355987/undefined (middleearth.esm)
http://www.filefront.com/15360791/MERP%20Data.esm

Step 7:
Make sure the files are in your data directory. Activate middleearth.esm and merpdata.esm. The load order should be exactly oblivion.esm, merp data.esm, middleearth.esm, DLCshiveringisles.esm.

Step 8:
Go into oblivion and pull up your CLEAN save that you made. You are in tamriel.

Step 9:
Pull up the console ~ and type: cow middleearth -47,47

Step 10: walk around middle earth for a while

Shivering Isles is required. Apart from that please check if your load order is correct (Oblivion.esm, MERP Data.esm, Middleearth.esm, Shivering Isles.esp) or deactivate your other mods. Normally people having your problem just have to deactivate another esm ... I hope that solves your problem ;)

Wow, just simply wow! This mod is turning out great! The heightmap is amazing!

I did have problems though, similar to the ones posted above. I tried everything, but what seemed to work is when I deleted all the files and downloaded them from TESAlliance (rather than NEXUS like I did before). I'm not sure if those files had something wrong with them, or I could've just made a mistake somewhere along the way. Either way I got it working.

I was wondering if I was supposed to see a world map though? I never saw one so I'm not sure.

Crickey! So all I have to do in order to explore this rough world of MERP, is too download the files from the above post, deactive all of my esp's and such expect Oblivion and Shivering Isles, then I'm there?

If I de activate all my mods, then re activate them with a clean save OTHER than the one for MERP, I'll still be good to go with all of my mods like OOO, right?

EDIT: Just wanted to ask if there was any activities to do in this beta? Any baddies to kill? Don't get me wrong, I WILL be exploring the hell out of this, but it would be that much more awesome if there was some nasty Orcs' to kill. :P

There are no enemies or quests included yet ... we do have some nasty orcs in development though and they look awesome ;)

For the installation please get them from Tesalliance, there you find all instructions and the other necessary files too (a patch, the LOD, meshes, and some addons). I don't know if something is wrong with the files from Tesnexus as shadowbeast suggested ... I can't try from where I am at the moment. Perhaps someone else from the team could?

nope, not yet. we've had problems with the in-game map but we do have one.

Sure. :)

i highly doubt it. The content should be the same from all sites, because it is the same .rar file in all sites. maybe shadow's download and installation just screwed up.

A good idea is to create a new save profile with Wrye Bash and then only have the ME files active, and then when you want to play your actual game go back to your original profile :D

Actually the files from TES Nexus aren't right. There are only 3 downloadable files, at the TES Alliance are 5 downloadable files.
When I downloaded the two remaining files from TES Alliance everything instantly worked.
So there are 2 missing files at TES Nexus ;)

It is because we need to tell you guys ALSO to download the 2 files from the mirrors on the TES Nexus page :D That is very important! as Mr.Kill says, it won't work unless you have those files

So for now it's probably easier just to say download the mod from tesalliance.

This is the link to the correct .esm http://www.filefront.com/15381359/MiddleEarth.esm/ on tesnexus someone linked to the wrong .esm and it is the source of alot of problems people are having. I hope someone on the team can make sure all the linkw lead to the above .esm.

Quick question for you guys. I noticed that you've included quite a few assets, specifically meshes, that don't seem to be in use in the mod at the moment. Things like Edoras, Smaug, and quite a few Moria pieces. Are these meshes used in an instanced worldspace that we currently can't get to or were they just left in the release version?

Also: I love the little boat in Forochel that takes you between the two settlements. What a cool touch :)
