Awesome work guys !!! I had been reading your forums for few months and I cannot wait for this great mod.
Minas tirith looks amazing ! But... I cannot find Helm's Deep and enterance to Moria. I don't have Shivering isles instaled but I've got Oblivion version 1.2.0416 (or sth like this :) ) and everything looks correctly, don't have any missing textures. So wondering if this is the problem. I found the place where the screenshot of helm's deep had been taken... and there's nothing. Is it included in merge at all ? The same problem with moria. If they are in this merge maybe you can give me the coordinates. I remind- I don't see any missing textures that this is propably not the problem with displaying. Please ... help... thx :D

@ Jaroslawus
As far as I know Helms Deep is not included in the Beta. And like you I also struggled to find the entrance to Moria. Took me hours to search for it in the Misty Mountains and still haven't found it

Also I'd like to know: Are Minas Morgul and Laketown included already? I've seen some incredible screenshots of those cities but in the game I can't find them. It only tells me that I'm in the region "Minas Morgul"....
Somestimes I wonder whether there's something wrong with my files. I see pretty much everything (like Minas Tirith, the Shire, Bree) but so far I haven't encountered any animals and my stone trolls are purple:

Yeah, there are definitely a few issues with textures/models that don't seem to be set up correctly.
I'll list some issues I've noticed, hopefully it'll be of use.
  • Purple stone trolls
  • Trees towards the center of the Trollshaws that show up ingame as purple boxes
  • Missing ground texture near the entrance to the Halls of Thranduil that appears purple
  • At least two models in Forochel that show up as white boxes, these are both at one of the settlements there if I remember right
  • Another totally separate white box somewhere, can't remember where it is though :(
  • Lots of floating models and a misaligned ground surface or two at Enedwaith near the wolves
  • Some (edit: probably all :)) buildings in Bree can be walked straight through if you use the front door
  • Not sure if this is a bug or a limitation of the engine, but when walking east through Anorien, if you look to the south towards Minas Tirith, I'm pretty sure that the game is actually rendering MT as if you could see it through the hills/mountains. Looking north, east, or west is just fine but when I look south my framerate takes a serious dive.
  • When walking through the High Pass, there is a spot right as you're about to crest the mountain where there's some sort of LOD issue I assume. It appears as an angled wall from the right side of the mountain to the left side. You can't collide with it but it's rather jarring.
  • If you follow the path through the Old Forest all the way into the Barrow Downs, the area between the two areas looks very unfinished, I realize that these two areas may have been handled by different people and that would explain the lack of a real transition, but there are rocks and grass placed intermittently, even a waterfall, so it appears as though this spot has already been "completed."
  • A suggestion: for Laketown, instead of building it with individual logs, just create an entirely new single model that has the appearance of a handbuilt wooden platform. This should cut down on the framerate issue there.

That's all I can remember for now.

Looks great, really reminds me of how I imagined it from the book!

Thanks everyone, yeah I've tried to keep it as lore friendly as possible

Some? I think I can walk through pretty much every door.

Lots of floating models and a misaligned ground surface or two at Enedwaith near the wolves

Where can you find wolves? Like I already said, so far I haven't seen any animals. Could someone give me the coordinates to that? :hehe:

There are wolves and some sheep if I remember right at Enedwaith (I think), which should be the region just to the west of Isengard on this map: http://merpmod.ning.com/photo/merp-texture-map?context=featured

I think that there used to be a sheep or two in the Shire as well, but I'm not sure if they're there in this merge.

There is one interior. It's a trollcave in the trollshaws, with bones on the floor.
Only when you try to get out again, the door isn't linked back to ME.
Keep up the good work

Snorign,

Here's some answers to a few questions. Ultimately everything can be filed under the "work in progress" and "fan made mod" mantles, but I understand that that is a bit of a cop-out, so here are some specific answers.

[*]Purple stone trolls
Anything that is purple in game means one thing and almost always that one thing.... it is missing a texture. I packed some textures with the trolls, it is possible they didn't go into the right directory. Is anyone else having this problem?

[*]Trees towards the center of the Trollshaws that show up ingame as purple boxes
This is due to some very buggy custom trees we attempted to use, I thought they had been deleted from the Trollshaws, but apparently there might still be some there? You have the latest .esm right? I'll have to go and look.

[*]Missing ground texture near the entrance to the Halls of Thranduil that appears purple
A custom texture that is missing, again we will have to look into this as a team, (this wasn't my area so I don't have specific knowledge of which textures they might be, everything shows up fine on my computer.)

[*]At least two models in Forochel that show up as white boxes, these are both at one of the settlements there if I remember right
I haven't seen this either, will have to look into it. They weren't supposed to be icebergs were they?

[*]Another totally separate white box somewhere, can't remember where it is though :(
same as above

[*]Lots of floating models and a misaligned ground surface or two at Enedwaith near the wolves
This is something the whole team needs to pay more attention to, including me. Floating models are hard to spot in the CS, but they svck and we should avoid them whenever possible like the plague. There is nothing more immersion breaking than a floating building. Unfortunately the mod is so big now it is hard to catch some of these problems before release. I edited alot of floating objects myself in major regions before the latest release, but alas I wasn't thourough enough.

[*]Some (edit: probably all :)) buildings in Bree can be walked straight through if you use the front door
This is purely WIP, we are aware of this fact, but we have no interiors yet for Bree, when those are complete we will start linking them with doors. I hoped you liked the town itself though, it took forever.

[*]Not sure if this is a bug or a limitation of the engine, but when walking east through Anorien, if you look to the south towards Minas Tirith, I'm pretty sure that the game is actually rendering MT as if you could see it through the hills/mountains. Looking north, east, or west is just fine but when I look south my framerate takes a serious dive.
This is the engine.

[*]When walking through the High Pass, there is a spot right as you're about to crest the mountain where there's some sort of LOD issue I assume. It appears as an angled wall from the right side of the mountain to the left side. You can't collide with it but it's rather jarring.
I know exactly what you are talking about, and it is easily fixable and is a normal problem with limitations of the engine when generating LOD. It will be fixed in later updates.

[*]If you follow the path through the Old Forest all the way into the Barrow Downs, the area between the two areas looks very unfinished, I realize that these two areas may have been handled by different people and that would explain the lack of a real transition, but there are rocks and grass placed intermittently, even a waterfall, so it appears as though this spot has already been "completed."
This area is definately still unfinsihed. All of the brown untextured land will be filled in with forest, it is just that I am doing all of the forest by hand to get exactly the right feel, and it takes ages. I must have spent 50 hours alone on the existing forest so I got a bit burned out and yes it is still very much unfinished. Buckland too for that matter is still a bit of a work in progress.

[*]A suggestion: for Laketown, instead of building it with individual logs, just create an entirely new single model that has the appearance of a handbuilt wooden platform. This should cut down on the framerate issue there.
[/list]
That's probably what we will do.

Thanks for the suggestions, and I hope you like what has been produced so far... despite the obvious WIP areas and flaws, we have put quite a bit of time into this and I hope everyone bears with us and is patient as we move forward; please always keep in mind we are a team of simple enthusiasts doing this out of pure joy!

-lumpy

That's all I can remember for now.

Thanks a lot for the prompt answers, Lumpypat. I've been following you guys for a loooong time and I really wish I could be of help but I just don't have modding experience and it seems like the MERP team is awfully big now anyway. I've really enjoyed playing around with the mod and I've probably spent more time in it than I have in most games I've actually paid for. A few days ago I rode all the way from Bag End to the front entrance of the Lonely Mountain and it was such a cool experience. I was pretty surprised to find Dale basically complete and Erebor itself looks great. I especially like the ambient sound effects as you go up the mountain path. :) Keep up the good work!

Somewhere around Swanfleet or the Ford of Bruinen, can't remember exactly. It's along the edge of the Bruinen though.

Alternatively you can just spawn a horse with "player.placeatme 00032bf4 1" without the quotes.

I think the missing (purple) texture thing might be due to the file path leading straight to the C: directory. Usually in nifscope you just erase everything in the file path up until textures/ so then they can be found wherever the person has the game installed.

Ok, sorry for not posting earlier.
* Stone trolls: It's a texture path issue, I forgot to check before the release. It will be fixed in the next patch (soon).
* Going into Bree buildings : That's perfectly normal (for now).
* Bad FPS near Minas Tirith : If you got the MT_far package, that's normal too (for now).
* Laketown : The next release (summer?) will have a new model. ;)

* White box : ???

I was exploring the new beta and while i was waiting for a download, I thought of something. Will someone work on changing the loading screens? It's not that important but I think it could be great to see something diferent than the oblivion content.

I'm sure they will be done sometime, but propably as one of the last steps before version 1.0 comes out. Now our focus is on creating exteriors, interiors and models to actually fill our map.

Of course Gondor will be added, it's a total conversion, meaning all of Middle Earth will be included. And Minas Tirith is already there :)

How many cities/settlements will be added in Gondor? Will Osgiliath be there, and will it be in ruins?

We haven't a count of these, but you can be sure than all the named ones will be there. So yes, there will be (the ruins of) Osgiliath.
