It requires shivering isles, so yes the latest patch of SI.

You need to deactivate all of your mods to use MERP, it is a total conversion.

To quote Lumpypat and his instructions:
Step 1:
Deactivate all .esp's and .esm's. All! Don't save bettergoldcoins.esp for old times sake, deactivate everything.

Step 2:
Activate Oblivion.esm and DLCshiveringisles.esp

Step 3:
Start up Oblivion and go into the TAMRIEL worldspace. I.E. make sure you are outdoors in Tamriel and not inside.

Step 4:
Walk a few feet.

Step 5:
Save, this is called a clean save. Then exit the game.

Step 6:
Make sure you have downloaded these files:
http://www.filefront.com/15355987/undefined (middleearth.esm)
http://www.filefront.com/15360791/MERP%20Data.esm
This is my Merp Data .esm as of today (friday) USE THIS ONE
Do not use the old files out of laziness, that will not help the situation!

Step 7:
Make sure the files are in your data directory. Activate middleearth.esm and merpdata.esm. The load order should be exactly oblivion.esm, merp data.esm, middleearth.esm, DLCshiveringisles.esm.

Step 8:
Go into oblivion and pull up your CLEAN save that you made. You are in tamriel.

Step 9:
Pull up the console ~ and type: cow middleearth -47,47

Step 10: walk around middle earth for a while

Thanks. Ive got my Oblivion disk, waiting for SI to arrive (threw them both out in disgust at the HD collapse I had....) Then its to work. I'm going to plough into Mesogea and Middle Earth and split my time between the two. A few months away from Blender and I feel like a total noob. I need to relearn it.

That's awesome news indeed!
Come over to our private forum (http://www.createforum.com/middleearthrole/), set up an account and send me a PM (or to names_are_useless) there so I can give you DEV access to all the boards. ;)

Hey Guys!

i think i just jizzed in my pants at how amazing this mod is! haha, i have this forum saved in my favorites folder and i look at it every day! haha
call me obsessed :D

just wondering though there are no quests yet, correct? like there isn't a storyline kind of thing yet. Will there be?
also is it like a seamless map? i mean can my character walk from the shire to minas tirith to orthanc or can i only go to one region and then teleport to the next one?
either way this mod looks fantastic!
keep up the fantastic work! can't wait for a full release! :)

There aren't quests yet, no, but there will be, definitely.

And the map is seamless, you can walk anywhere your legs will take you.

As the project grows bigger, I started wondering how will the main quest be played? I mean, what about the quest of the one ring. Will you be able to be part of it or will you only be joining lets say the battle at the pelenor fields if you are a men of gondor. I know you try to stick as close as possible to the storyline but it could be very pleasant to make the journey with the fellowship.

In our mainquest you're going to be the ringbearer and Sultericdrums is already working on it. If you choose to be a Hobbit soon after the beginning of of MERP someone will ask you if you are Bilbos nephew. If you answer with yes our mainquest will start, if no you will just be an ordinary Hobbit.

Of course you'll also be able to take part in events like the battle of Helms Deep or the battle on the Pelennor fields, but not when playing as the ringbearer.

Perfet this is a very good way to bring the story. Besides, if you are, let say an elf, will you be sent to rivendell instead of legolas or something like that?

No, that would be too much work for just a little reward. Implementing our mainquest will be a huge job on its own, so instead of making it possible to play more or less the same storyline from Legolas point of view I'd like to see many alternative questlines implemented.

At first it will be one of two paths. Play as Frodo or play as a 10th member of the Fellowship. When the party splits at Rauros Falls depending on who you go with will determine what you see or don't see.

The first cut of this will be very rough and will get refined over time. There are certain things I'm still unsure if they're even possible.

So are you working on both paths now or concentrating on the role of Frodo? Anyway, great to hear from you! How far have you got with your script already?

I'm still translating things from the book to an overview document. It's incredibly time consuming. The things I need in the mean time are the interior in Bree for the Prancing Pony, the interior for Tom Bombadil's house and the interior for Rivendell. Also all the races. I either need to create the NPCs or have someone create them for me before I can start the actual programming. That part will actually be a lot easier than what I'm doing now believe it or not.

Sorry, I think I've expressed myself badly ... with script I meant exactly that document you are talking about.

The races should be done already, but when would you need the finished interiors (also Bag End and Crickhollow)? I'll make sure they are done when needed.

guys ( & girls? ) i just wanna say fantastic work and job well done to you all. you've honestly made the most amazing mod i've seen so far and i walked around bree (sadly couldn't go in houses yet :P ) and it looks way better than anything i've seen professionally made on LOTR games. you've outdone anything i've seen so far and i just figured you should know how great your work is. thankyou very much for making this and putting it out there for everyone to use, it really is an immensely impressive piece of work xD

(i have one question, i'm having trouble in all of the middle-earth areas, in place of some of the buildings are huge yellow warning signs with "!" in the middle of them. Minas Tirith is just one huge collection of those signs all near eachother. does anybody know what i can do to get rid of this or fix it? any help would be much appreciated, and thanks in advance).

You probably miss the meshes of those buildings. You can download them on the TES alliance site (where you probably downloaded all your other files for the mod too, so it's kinda weird...)

Warner Bros. Interactive entertainment has just revealed a new LotR video game. War in the North. It's supposed to be an RPG which will take you to environments from the film and the book. You can also play coop with 3 friends. They also put a trailer on. Maybe they can finally make a game worthy of LotR...

lol, yeah as if they could.. they screwed up every single one of them so far xD i say goodluck to them.. for their sakes and ours :P
it'd be about time they made something worth playing and worthy of the world it supposedly represents..

thanks again btw, i re-downloaded the meshes (i got them from tesnexus before i realised) and it works good now.
