MERP (MiddleEarth Roleplaying Project) Thread XXI

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 1:28 am

http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk286/aoikani/ScreenShot14-1.jpg is finished and textured. I still have to test the textures to see if they're to light/dark. Which brings me to question, do we have testers?

Daaaaaaaaaaayum!

This is a LOTR fans dream!

I'd better download this, stat.

I have a question: which areas are made yet?
If I install it, how much is there? I know there aren't NPC's or anything but still.

*crosses fingers for Bree*
When I was reading LOTR, I got a sense of atmosphere from Bree that I can't explain.

Several regions got finished recently: Lumpypat has done the Lone Lands and the South Downs, and me I created the southern part of the Misty Mountains (from Isengard up to the High Pass area):

Southern Misty Mountains:

And finally we are making good progress with Rivendell again:

Hi guys,

Long time lurker first time poster - I have to say I am completely floored by the effort of this team and beauty you have created. The quality, depth, and dedication that I see is incredible, and every time I pop in this thread to look at another screenshot my jaw drops. I've spent the last week looking over all the photos that have been released to date and can't wait to get in there! Keep up the great work, and don't forget - for every person posting their praise on the forum, there are 50 more lurkers thinking it. I cannot wait to explore every nook and cranny of Moria, and Mirkwood, and the Shire, and ..... I can go on and on!

I can honestly say that if given a choice between MERP, a new (properly made) X-Com UFO Enemy Unknown game, a new Master of Magic, or even a new Elder Scrolls Game (my three favorite games/series), I would rather have MERP. It just looks that good

Keep up the great work!

hey guys, just have to say that you are doing a GREAT job!

Ive seen these threads before, but didnt really pay attention to them... thinking that it was impossible to recreate middle earth, but seeing the screenshots and videos changed that, everything just looks amazing! and your progress seems to be coming along nicely! :goodjob:

Question: how much space will the entire beta take up on my computer?

Thanks all!

@MrSoprano: honestly, I don't know ... the esm alone has about 500mb and with the meshes, LOD and everything you need it might be about 1gb.

And I've great some news for you:

Fangorn is finished!!

And propably you will also find some of the most ancient trees of Middle Earth inside ...

Not sure if this will fix it, the same problem happens with Mesogea. The main master file absolutely MUST be second in the loading list to Obivion.esm. Use Oblivion mod manager or something similar. If you dont then the land disappears.

I've started work on a separate LOTR related project. It's not nearly as ambitious a project as this, and mostly for novelty/testing at this point.

I could really use some testers to see if the very basic functionality it has is working so far.

Also, I would be interested to work with the MERP crew. I know the construction set fairly well, with the exception of landscaping. I'm also a quite decent scripter.

Right now I'm doing a lot of work with the nine and the ring, see this thread for details:

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1091739-wip-rel-the-nine-and-the-one-v01-alpha/

There is still much to be done as far as behavior, but seeing as this mod is maybe 5 days old, I'm making good progress.

I LOVE the idea of MERP. I've not tried it, but the screenshots I've seen look fantastic! Keep up the great work!

Im testing it at the moment, so ive disabled all my other mods to look at it (to make sure there are no incompatabilities) but im gunna do that, Thanks :) im also gunna download the ESM again, because ive looked on the MERP website and seen that i may have downloaded the old ESM? i dunno but its worth a try.

EDIT:
Right its all working now :) it looks amazing! the scope of this thing is amazing! i literally cannot wait!

You guys are doing an AMAZING job... keep it up :goodjob:

Hi Andy!

If you would like to help just post an application on our http://www.createforum.com/middleearthrole/index.php?mforum=middleearthrole. I don't have much idea about the scripting side of things, but I don't think that we've planned anything on the behaviour of the ring wraiths yet. So your work should be really helpful ;)

Im glad that worked. I am hoping to give a few hours over to the MERP mod soon, maybe a location in the region editor. Up to then, as always, if you guys want anything from the Mesogea mod, then please let me know.

I LOVE JRR Tolkien.

This mod sounds absolutely awesome! The Hobbit is one of my favorite reads of all time... It's somewhat of a special book to me because of the level of imagination that poured from me while reading it.

Thank you guys for the efforts to make this mod, and I will definitely be checking back often. I don't have much time for the beta, but I will keep up-to-date with the news.

Good luck!
