Mesh issue with Duster

Post » Mon Nov 22, 2010 9:01 am

I like the Lawbringer Duster in Tailor Maid, but the http://i44.tinypic.com/11j90e1.jpg when crouching looks quite ugly. Not sure if this is specific for the Tailor Maid variant as my char hasn't found any vanilla ones yet. Anyway, is this unavoidable or fixable? If the second, I'd love a fix.

it doesn't happen on the orginal, according to the sneak anims I just inspected.

It looks as if its a rigging error- mesh tearing or ripping. Not exactly sure how that was introduced. best solution is to open the nif, and edit the vert weights around the edge of that inner mesh, to again match the coresponding verts weights of the outer. could do the copy/pasting weights as individual verts by hand, as its only about 20 verts or so. a small bit of tedium. or import the weights all in one go.

or you could be lazy, seek a subpar result- add a nistencilproperty to that nitrishape block via nifskope. at least you would'nt be able to see though it then. it's not optimal, but it could be a quick fix

Thanks for the info. :) That's way beyond me - I loaded the nif in NifSkope but that's pretty much the limit of my abilities for that... Wonder if Tailor Maid still is updated? Perhaps I should make a post about it in the Nexus comments.

EDIT: Yes, the vanilla Regulator Duster looks fine in this regard. I made a post on Nexus but then I saw an earlier post mentioning that the author doesn't update it anymore - so I guess an official fix is out of the question. I'd need like a very detailed guide to be able to tackle it in NifSkope myself.

oh. the proper fix can only be done in a 3d app. I didn't mention that when I said open. thats my default of openning to me.

The second thing I mentioned is easy. and done is nifskope. Detailed guide- if you editing the original- you are going to add a nistencilproperty to 2 different trishapes. the main part of the coat. and the section that forms the inner part. open nif in nifskope. right click in the viewport on the first of the trishapes so that it is selected and a little menu opens. node>attach property> nistencilproperty. it'll probably look like nothing happened. but if you expand the shape in the block list you will spot it. repeat for the trishape that makes up the inner part of the coat.

a stencil property will make the mesh faces 2 sided. you will not be able to see through the other side of it. but it doesn't create new faces, and therefore the faces still only have one set of face and vertex normals. meaning lighting and the mesh on those backfaces will not look correct.

Thanks for the detailed instructions. It worked perfectly - and was very easy to do as well. I'll try to keep it in mind if the issue turns up somewhere else. :)
