Mesh questions

So I've been working on modeling a book. I've made the text block and the cover as separate objects to make it a little easier on me. My question is, is it beneficial to leave them separate in any way, or does it really make a difference? My other question is, especially for such a simple model with mostly flat sides, is it preferable to use triangles, or quads? On that note, does mixing them provide any difficulties in texturing or otherwise?

The only benifit of seperate objects would be if there was ever a need to place one of the parts without the other. Morrowind preferes triangles and I've read somewhere that quads don't work right but I've never encountered a problem with quads. I'd say convert to triangles just for consistancy with everything else in the game.

Yes, I was modeling them separately to so that changes to one part wouldn't affect the rest. This wasn't a problem with the text block and cover, but now I see that I will have to model the spine separately from the cover so that the cover doesn't deform. I guess I will join them when it's all done. Thank you for the information.
