Meshes and Textures question...

Post » Sat Jun 26, 2010 12:20 pm

I recently downloaded an expanded ayleid textures mod and when I go to look for them they aren't there. Therefore I have some questions...

Do I need to extract the meshes into a certain folder? If so what one

The files Dungeons>ayleidruins>interior>then the meshes are the only files in it. Do I just load the entire thing into the oblivion file? If so where (I.E. Data/Meshes Folder)?

Same question for textures. If I download them (or meshes) that come with a mod, will I need to manually add them to folder where they will be added in game and the cs?

If you've expanded the Oblivion.esm using TES4BSA, then you'll have a meshes folder and a textures folder in with your Oblivion.exe

Manually backup whatever original files the new mod changes (move them to a subfolder called Old), then manually copy the new files into their respective folders. Most modders will say you can simply extract their zips into your main install folder and everything will find its proper place, but in my years of experience with downloading stuff people put online for anything, rampant illiteracy as well as failure to follow the capitalization standards can leave you with a pounding headache and a cluttered drive if you simply take their word for it.

Better safe than sorry - copy the files (NOT the whole folder) manually into the proper folder.

I do havn't downloaded any script extenders. I make do with what works specifically with the latest Oblivion patch (unofficial SI and Oblivion)

As far as I know all TES4BSA does is extract the main Oblivion file - the ESM. That's pretty much it. It doesn't add functionality like OBSE does. It merely unpacks the packed file and puts everything in different subdirectories. I'm assuming Oblivion knows to look for these folders (hence the reason mods and such work, even if you just swap a mesh or texture) without compiling a full-on plugin.

Ergo, if you unzip the Ayleid textures package you downloaded, you would have to find the textures it is intended to replace or else the game will see two identical files and probably go with the first one (if Windose will even let you have them both in the same folder, which is doubtful).

I fixed this awhile ago. Thanks for replying but I solved it.
