[RELz] [WIPz] Mesogea Thread V (Back to work then.)

Post » Tue Feb 01, 2011 8:09 pm

1. I need to go through every texture then by the looks of things. That could take a while but seems the benefit will be there.
2. These will likely be easy to do as the rendering would probably remain ok.
3. I actually went through all of this before the HD collapse, but need to do it again, I think the reduction was quite large.
4. Future stuff can easily be done like this, but the historic stuff might have to stay for a while until the mod is ready for another major release.

TR textures. I couldnt off the top of my head even recall putting these in. I do remember someone asked a year or so ago to include various items from all over the place, mostly desert stuff. As I have gone through the mod, wherever I used stuff myself I always either credited people or where possible contacted them to let them know, or if neither was possible, kept an eye out for when they re-emerged. For instance the Dune stuff, however the maker seems to have disappeared so either we dont use stuff, or use minimally and credit, then ask retrospectively if all is ok, when the maker re-emerges from wherever. Also there are a few redundant bits in the mod as you have probably discovered that seem to have been overlooked by my own daft fault, ie; not cleaning out a couple of mods I have tried out, before packing everything up. The last reason may well be that one of the people who helped with the mod beforehand may have provided them and not bothered to let me know where they were from. (happened a couple of times I can recall.) sometimes people just arent clued up on how to and why to credit others. A bit annoying. I see my stuff crop up now and again, but so long as credit is given I suppose...

yea, i figured the TR stuff might be a mistake as i've not seen it in any screenshots.

if you set your view type to Details you can see the size of each texture. a normal 512*512 is 171, so i'd just check files that are bigger than that. saves some work. it will be a pain in the ass, but imo its well worth it. same to #3 and 4. i typically save this sort of work for when i have a headache or am not feeling creative, as its not really difficult. i can see you cutting about a third of the texture folder size, which adds up to quite a lot.

Yep the TR stuff is a bit pointless here, another space saving exercise. Drop box has been completed. That should be perfect.

Ok, I took a plunge and before the Mesogea forum gets to the point of having the seventy plus members and hundreds of posts it had last time, I have decided to put both website and forum under one roof and move to Spruz which has much more interactive and exciting content without half the effort it takes to constantly update the main website etc.

Anyway, shoot over to the new website and take a look: http://mesogea.spruz.com

gah, just when i'd registered for the old one. the gallery is looking fab; 19 and 22 are definitely my favorite ones. one of the few times i've really felt a sense of scale in an oblivion mod.

:poke: I know, I know. Its a pest moving forums. Luckily there are only about 30 posts and nothing indepth thats why I though, better now than later. I will keep the original forum running as a back up plan. I like the new site much better though, probably because i didnt have to make it myself from scratch. Always an improvement.

The scale is quite enormous. I still find myself sitting back and thinking, a horse just isnt fast enough!

Once the mod has a few ports we can add ships to fast travel. I would like to put in some real moving ships too, especially for some of the longer, deeper rivers. A holiday by boat!

Anyway, for any other Mesogea forum members, please go to the new site and register, you can very easily upload your pictures, videos and other work so we can share em.

I have added a part into the new combined website ( http://mesogea.spruz.com )
A Special Feature section. Each week, or more often, I will do a snapshot of a region, place, town, city, race etc to build up a library of articles that modders and players can utilise to discover the world of Mesogea.

The first article is in place. Aretia, a province of the Holorian Western Empire.

Added a second Special Feature. The Vandur; the enemy in Mesogea.

And another one on Etruscia. An island not yet discovered by any of you, and its BIG!

when i click "special feature" it just says "Sorry there are no upcoming events to display"

anyways, downloaded and took a look around mesogea. my initial reaction can best be described as " :ooo: ". screenshots don't really capture the sense of scale. i spent maybe an hour or so coe-ing and running around the land. the map definitely helps, though it seems its either off or doesn't include all of the landmarks? i first landed at 10,10, near a gorgeous river with wide beaches speckled with reeds. it really felt quaint and made me want to go exploring. after wandering around for a while i downloaded the map and proceeded to illisium (sp?), which was suitably epic. i had some magenta textures, probably since i had messed around with cleaning the archive before hand, so i couldn't get any good pictures. in conclusion, i was left feeling that the mod could be much more about wilderness and small (relatively) towns and farms, with epic cities being the icing on the cake. i of course don't know what your plans are, but i think that smaller settlements could be enticing to modders.

i can't figure out how to add screenshots to the website, so i'll link them here:

http://img15.imageshack.us/img15/2563/mes01.jpg, and then http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/3053/mes02.jpg. the http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/7894/mes03.jpg started http://img443.imageshack.us/img443/747/mes04.jpg and was completely gone when i got http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/8968/mes05.jpg. i then teleported to Ilusidum to discover an http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/2039/mes06.jpg.

Aha I figured out how to add pics. Go to your member profile under Members, then you can add your own videos and pics that will automatically appear in the photos section.

Anyone interested in Lore, can now go to the special feature part of the website. There will be regular pieces about the history, culture, politics, warfare and so forth in Mesogea. They include pics and maps too! Hmm lovely.

Latest one is this http://mesogea.spruz.com/pt/Special-Feature-The-Sarach-Lands-and-people/blog.htm

Lots and lots of stuff on the website for people to watch, read and enjoy.

I have moved the Special Feature section to a blog type section so it is easier to see previous ones and the newest appears automatically.

If you visit Special Features now there are about five to read through, very detailed, lots of lore etc.

http://mesogea.spruz.com/blog.htm

Read about Valisarius, the Western Holorian Empires greatest General, look at the Vandur, the great enemy, Aretia a debated and war torn region, Sarachia and the Sarach people - a part of the Empire albeit reluctant, and Etruscia a vast land not yet discovered and ready for region editing and claiming!

i'm liking the special sections, especially the ones about the races/places. maybe a quick timeline of important events or a very basic outline of all the lands (like a labeled map). did another playthrough today, more screenshots upcoming :)

The pictures in special features are somewhat small. It would be nice if clicking on image would enlarge it or open it in new tab.
