[RELz, WIPz] Mesogea Total Conversion- Thread V

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 2:13 am

Thanks Magician,

@Thekarithian, I can probably send you the Villa I've been working on soon. It's just the clutter and inside area so far. Anything after that and even any changes can just be made via an .esp after it's merged, so I can continue work on it but it could be included in the released file if you want. Let me know.

BTW, I wanted to add more, do you think the Valisarius statue would be out of place? Here's what it looks like so far.

All looks very good. I think the statue is a bit too dominating though, the sort of thing found in a street but not really in a villa. I wont merge your work yet as its your sole claim, otherwise people looking at it in the cs could mistakenly make small changes that might mess up your further work. Better keep it to yourself until done. Ive started working on the Capranecurum again, just fixing bits and pieces. I think I will do the tomb entrances and make map markers for them all so when it is released again people can claim the exteriors and then do the interior linking to it.

This is all progressing quite nicely. No updates on the website yet, we are working towards a start scenario and some locations. Anyone fancy helping, especially scripters and place builders, towns etc then come along.

Haha...I totally forgot we had this forum.

Okay, so I'll just explain what I'm working on right now.

Do all of you remember Attack on Fort Sutch from Oblivion? Well, I thought it was the best minor quest in the game, though it was wayyyy too short. So, I've decided to not only lengthen the quest, but make it lead into a whole questline.

So, the basic idea is that the first time you arrive at a Holorian fort, Fort Govium, you learn that a Doraean (steppe raider) army is riding towards the garrison. You must ride to a nearby friendly Doraean tribe and convince them to relieve the Holorian garrison.

If any of you are confused, you'll learn why the some Doraeans are friendly while others want to eat your face. There are three seperate tribes of the so called "Northern" Doraeans: The Marduk, the Kanduk, and the Lasvak. While the Kanduk is friendly and the Lasvak are somewhat neutral, the Marduk are an aggressive and warlike tribe. They don't care who they kill, as long as that person is in their way, it's fair game. So the Marduk sometimes launch surprise attacks on Holorian forts on the eastern border of the empire.

So anyway, the friendly tribe, the Kandak, send reinforcments and you must ride back with them and defeat the Marduk invaders.

I won't give away anymore about the battle, but you're probably wondering what this has to do with a questline. Well, if you travel back to the Kandak, you'll be offered the chance to join them. Should you choose to, the entire Doraean quest line will open up to you.

What's so special about this quest line? Well, much like any faction quest, you'll see things go from bad to worst. As you advance in status among the tribes, you'll see the three Northern Doraean tribes start to drift slowly apart. Thing might even result in a schism, or worst still, civil war.

Its all looking good. The Doraean v Holorian issue is very much like the Huns and the Roman Empire. The pressure the aggresive Doraeans provide upon other tribes also causes problems within the Holorian Empire.

Well, actually, the Doraean Questline is, for the most part, completely unrelated to the Holorian Empire. Fort Govium is one of the few instances where Holorians actually appear in the picture. For the most part, the Holorians don't care about what happens among the Doraean tribes, partly because there is currently a truce between the two sides. To sum it up, it's more a civil war between the Doraeans that doesn't really involve the Holorian Empire.

However, if I get around to making the Southern Doraeans, I'll give them the "classic" questline, in which you actually do fight the Holorians.

Good to see you're back on the job Kroot ;)

I haven't done much work lately, had some personal stuff, been busy. Today I'm going to take a look at cluttering and NPC creation. I'm thinking that a super-wealthy Holorian noble would have a guard or two in his house... hired bodyguards maybe.

Valisarius, have you made any guards for Illusidum yet? I'm guessing that although right now we're trying to keep Mesogea completely separate from Oblivion stock files, we're eventually going to have to change stock guard conversations and other core game functions... another reason that it won't work as a simple addition to Oblivion

Let's give this a bump, and an update. I took a bit of a break, but I'm back at it now, hopefully will have something in a few weeks that will be able to be released in the next package.

It's available for download, but it is basically just the land-mass... and a few empty cities. There isn't any NPC's, no quests, etc... mostly a modders resource for anyone that wanted to help out. Only download if you want to see the land and get a sense of how big it is.

And it is amazingly large - so big - so wish that Cyrodiil was this size.

So wish there was a mass exodus of veteran modders who want to populate that landmass with culture and quests.

Yeah that would be nice Psymon, but unfortunately, and I think fortunately, there is a very active community, but people are interested in doing their own things... I say fortunately because there are so many amazing mods out there, Oblivion has really turned into such an awesome game because of it.

Oh well, you never know who might get interested.

It's going. Only about 3 active members right now, and even then we all have other things we are busy with. thekarithian has done a lot of work on a main city though. The video of the Agraria here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T25MQJz45w8&feature=fvw gives a good idea of how far it's come. This should all be included in the next version and a few other things as well. Hopefully should be available in a few months to download.

I'm still working on Mesogea. I have a full time job, family and study part time too so I cant do as much work as I would like to. As Psymon commented, this mod is fully available for veteran modders to unleash their potential upon. Its a shame with so much work done that so few people are exploiting it. I can only assume people really like having a goblin infested cave right next to a village, as if no-one is aware of it being there. Very strange.

When people get tired of populating the same areas in Oblivion, I'm sure they will expand into Mesogea. Its there for the taking.

Yeah, development's been a little slow on my end as well. Been busy with other things, and sometimes when you get a chance to sit down for some game time, you just want to play a game instead of mod one, haha. I'm getting Caecilius Aelius talking though, and some of the quest ready as well. Most of the villa is cluttered.

For the moment I'm not going to worry about voicing the lines and just have plain text when people talk.

Sounds good. Ive been doing a little more on the capital city and touring the land looking for a couple of nice military camps. I'd love to start work on Astaroth, a city abandoned by the Holorians and now home to all kinds of thieves and cutthroats but also a fairly solid trade network etc. Very much like an old Roman town if you can imagine lets say something along the lines of Carthage after the Empire fell apart but set in a more northern climate surrounded by mountains, with one road along a narrow pass and a couple of mountain paths leading in through pine forested mountains, troll infested etc. If someone were to take that city and region on they could make an absolute meal of it.

Sounds cool, I've been thinking of something to do alongside the villa. Would it use most of the same assets as Illusidum, being Holorian? Maybe a few retextures to make it more run-down?

Edit: Could you make a post about it on the Mesogea forums? We should start formulating ideas.

I've been told, think of guys like Darth Maul... dark, face painted, possibly small horned, very tall men. Magic is going to be more rare in Mesogea, but the Vandur are the magic users. Extremely powerful.

Actually I think there was a bit of a convo about that earlier in this thread... but thekarithian will be able to describe them better.

I was scrolling through all the fonts on my computer trying to find one for work, and I came across a Herculean type font, I thought it might look good on the world map. Which one do you guys like more? Old version or new one. I had used two different fonts for the first map... the title is different from the landmass names.

Looking at it a few times I kind of prefer the old, but its your map and Ill be happy either way. Ive done a fair amount of work on this mod over the last few weeks and will upload the progress etc, but RL is going barmy again owing to christmas getting nearer, the kids etc, busy at work so I have to put it on the back burner for a but, not for too long I hope.

Old

New

I think the old one looks better, IMO. It has a bit more of an archaic feel. I don't know if it's quite 'perfect', though. I also like the way the "Mesogea" font in the old one looks aged.

This looks to be an awesome mod. It is something to look forward to when I am done with Cyrodiil (not that I'll ever be completely done with Cyrodiil ;) But I am looking forward to this nonetheless. I am supposing you are going to have alot of ancient style weaponry and armour, i.e. bronze will be a viable type of metal and iron, and esp. steel would be more rare?

On a similar note, I like how you are making magic more rare in this world. This mod is very much like a world/Oblivion mod concept I have been thinking of for quite some time. It would be cool if it would be extremely hard to find magic items, especially at low levels, so it feels like you really got an awesome weapon if you do come across an enchanted sword in a tomb or something. I would never want to see random bandits running around wearing superpowered, previously rare armour, using enchanted weapons, like you could just pick them up on the side of the road or something the way you can in vanilla OB. :yuck: That kinda "cheapens" the whole idea of getting special items/weapons.

I will be "patiently" awaiting progress on this...

Hmmm, I tried to go to the Mesogea forums today and I get this message: "lightningshore.freeforums.org was removed by the forum admininistrator on Dec 6, 2009."

Does anybody have the email of thekarithian? It could be a website error, although it seems a bit more... specific than a random error.

Major problems guys. A total hard disk failure has wiped the mod clean, combined with a major family problem too. A total wipeout I am afraid. Unfortunately the whole thing for me stops here. The end of an era. I was asked to renew the forum a couple of days ago and after a frantic effort to salvage what I could, I have to accept the end of the road.

Luckily you folks already have the files downloaded and can carry the work on. Sorry its been abrupt.
