Metacritic has gone crazy

Post » Wed Dec 02, 2015 7:21 pm

One difference is Witcher 3 is made by a studio that doesn't have a huge following of haters. Nobody hates CDPR because they don't have a reason to, they haven't bought a popular franchise and forced it into something else. Skyrim was at a solid 8.5 user rating until Steam and Bethesda tried the paid mods trick, then Skyrim got a massive influx of 0's and in just 3 days it drops at 8.0, do you think the haters came back to change their vote after the paid mods idea failed? No, that's how accurate Metacritic user score is regarding the value of a game. I trust the journalist reviews more than an aggregate score of nobodies trolling and spamming and "getting revenge".

When the critic score is 1 point or 2 points apart from user score (like Skyrim was 94 vs 85) that's a sign of healthy evaluation, the arithmetic mean between those two is most likely fair. When the gap is 88 vs 46 then one of the two is very very wrong and the average doesn't work anymore, and in this case of Fallout 4 I think the critics are closer to the truth.

Well yes I do expect to trip over a sniper rifle on my out of a vault. I got power armor and a mini-gun 15mins into the game. And killed a Deathclaw. So why not get a sniper rifle too?

Anyway, where did you get the armor component? It is a mod?

Im really interested too, where did you get that armor component? I looked through the collectors edition guide on unique armors and didnt see anything that allowed that. As a stealth player I was really sad.

Its a right arm metal piece as i have it. Dropped from a legendary raider. Its called Chameleon metal painted right arm. I am guessing you can get it as a random drop anyway. I am pretty sure you can attach muffles and other stuff to your armor at the work bench aswell. You need 3 strength to start getting perks for armor bench. Do it, well worth the time. God i love this game.

It's not jealousy, F4 is a very complex game, it's not for every casual/lazy gamer, for those haters it's just easier to hate than to develop a taste for the game.

Anyone notice how people who love this game are calling people who don't love it "idiots," "trolls," and "haters"? Those responses are what you see in fanaticism like cults and conspiracy theories. Fans indeed.

Well if people could come up with some real arguments of why they don't like the game, then we wouldn't have to go so far. What mostly bothers me is that there are about 1000 things to like about this game and maybe 10 or so to dislike, why are people letting those 10 reasons keeping them from enjoying the game? Its like that small amount of something turning everyone into complainers. As i said there are legit grievances about the game, but if the positives outshine the negative, then who cares?

Well the more I play the more I see a lot of room for improvement. Settlement building is all but completely broken. Scrapping has more questions than answers as far as how it works. Loot ... ugh, if I see another pipe gun variant I'll kill the dog. Crafting armor and guns is nearly overkill for minor +/- with most upgrades. I loved the prior games but right now I'd give this one a 6/10. Graphics are nice but graphics aren't everything and of course you'd expect those to be better with each new game. New leveling system seems to be working, though can't really judge until I get to higher levels.

This game is far from flawless mostly because they have half botched the PC port, and we have brought up valid points (well on pc anyways) and because those 10 THINGS ARE PREVENTING US from enjoying the other so called 1000 things as you would say.

But it does not deserve a 0 on metacritic either, nor does it deserve a 10 as I stated earlier. Most reviews will be settled around 6.5 to 8 in average. Then the mods will come out to correct all the issues that bethesda should of implemented at the start. (They worked 4 years on this, without creating a game engine). And will probably gain 1 point average.

I can understand it. The game is fantastic I don't disagree so I haven't contributed to that rating, but I say I understand because some things are wonky and it may be people playing for those things specifically. Myself personally,

I was most excited building was getting added to the game, the building is really, really poor. Referencing the construction, not weapon and armor modding. I tried putting a wall around Rocket Station, making it kind of an HQ until proceeding further. It was ridiculous. When you try to wrap a wall around something, pick your poison. Half the time the walls snap together when you don't want them to, and refuse to do so when you need them to. The other half of the time, you can't see any damn thing while holding a wall to put it where you want it to go, and if you manage to get a good angle, if you want to move it horizontally or god forbid vertically at all, there goes your view. You also can't wrap a wall around the border of Rocket Station because of terrain and debris. Sometimes a large tree or tire is half in / half out of the build-able area, so you can't remove it but it's also completely in the way. (Several of these in Sanc)

There is other mod issues that are head scratchers. Like it required glass, steel and stuff to make a reflex sight on a bolt action rifle, I was so excited only to lift the rifle and the "reflex sight" was two screws touching tips (insert joke here) drilled through a metal pipe on the left and right side.. don't know why it needed the glass, or where the glass went :brokencomputer:, or why it was referred to as a reflex sight.. lol

So, I want to make it clear, this is an answer to your question not complaints. I love the game so far, no way would I give it such a low rating, :goodjob:

but these things do bother me in the sense that my only complaints are issues with what I was looking forward to most so it's kind of a bummer too.

One may not play videogames, may not like this genre of games, but anyone who played it and doesn't recognize F4 as a masterpiece is an idiot, plain and simple.

It's not a masterpiece. New Vegas did a lot of things better.

If you think it is a masterpiece, instead of a decent or good game, then I have news for you...

I wouldn't give much attention to the Metacritic crowd. They've always seemed like delicate, special snowflakes living in their own enclosed, hermetically-sealed nerd bubble-world. Most of them get out about as much as Sheldon and crew on The Big Bang Theory. There were other examples of their score-outrages in the past that didn't really correlate with user reception in the larger community. For example -- Steam user reviews are mostly positive now.

I definitely noticed a lot of people who don't like the game but still can't stop themselves from hanging around and forcing their opinion onto others. It's strange, because they don't seem like they are offering suggestions or feedback to Bethesda, rather they enjoy starting arguments with people who are actually having a good time.

This. I also notice those who don't like the game calling those who do like it "trolls, idiots, and fanb0ys." It works both ways.

The whole discussion of masterpiece vs crap is the most idiotic thing in the conversation. "To each their own". Some people love this kind of thing and it speaks to that. Some will be disappointed because it's not what they thought it would be. Assassin's Creed, an amazing franchise, finally came back to quality with Syndicate after Unity. See, Unity was a poc, even to fans. Fallout 4 is not, even if I myself have issues with certain features, calling it poorly made is not fair. Seriously though, why call someone who doesn't like the game an idiot? To each their own man, respect that.

I love the game, I hope for construction improvements.

Gamers are flaming a new game that had extremely high hype over the past year?

You don't say!

This too. the game had more hype than the second coming. Of course that sets some up for let downs. We as gamers have seen many a title go down in flames that way so we should be cautious if we want FO to stick around.

Well, I've only played a couple hours so far and I am enjoying the exploration aspect of the game. I'd agree with previous posts that both pacing and story logic are a bit off. I also don't particularly like the new character advancement system. I much prefer the one from FO3. Perhaps these systems will grow on me, perhaps not. Everything does seem designed to cater to console players and I worry about that trend. They might have gone a bit too far with this game.

Overall still happy with the game. It's not perfect, but nothing ever is. Let's hope BGS speeds up release of the creation kit.

I've seen a lot of valid criticisms of the game.

I love the game from what I've played so far and expect to put a lot of time into it.

I'm not going to act like the game is flawless though.

But one thing I think we can all agree on is that the scores on Metacritic are hyperbole to the extreme.

I'm fairly certain that most people who have been disappointed by this game wouldn't give it a 0.

But maybe I'm wrong. Maybe some people actually believe that this is one of the worst games ever made with absolutely no good qualities.

Agreed, and it's definitely highlighting some of the more ridiculous overreactions we're seeing right now. I kinda see what's going on here as one more byproduct of the gutter-culture of the 2015 gamer-community. Everything is pure hate these days. At the very least it's a direct byproduct of the culture of absolutes and overreactions that now exist within the gamer world -- something either has to be THE GREATEST THING EVAR or THE WORST THING EVAR.

There's practically no room for nuance or subtleties or middle-ground positions in nerdboi hyperbolic-overractions any more.

Despite repeated complaints about their atrocious and generally insipid writing, nothing changed. It's still the same drab main story, in similar vain to that of Fallout 3. Uninspired characters and dialogue. Ludicrous choices, no flexibility in accomplishing quests. Heavily-combat oriented. Lack of a good RPG mechanic system, unlike in its predecessors. Poor quest design and world narrative. The world building still focuses on embellishment and the "wow-factor" over coherency and intrigue.

On the positives I can only think of a couple - they improved the variation in AI tactics, level zoning, better "shooter" experience (at the expense of core RPG elements).

I refer to the people who give 0 score at metacritic as trolls because is this a game that deserves 0 score? Really? 100% sure? Think a minute about it. Only a minute. I have my fair share of criticism too about Fallout 4. But won't talk about it until I have seen most of the game. Thats how reviewing works.

But really 0?

Sorry these are trolls and not people who review a game.

I'll second that, to be sure.

Indeed, that score for a game capable of displaying even just static screenshots of their press-kit as the in-game visuals, is an insult, and an undeserved injury.

More interesting to me, is that I have not (personally) seen any posts here by those that don't love it ~that dish out similar towards those who do.
