Methane Doomsday Bubble

Post » Fri Mar 19, 2010 5:05 pm

If anyone wants another indication that the article is BS:

Many geologists concur: "The consequences of a methane-driven oceanic eruption for marine and terrestrial life are likely to be catastrophic. Figuratively speaking, the erupting region "boils over," ejecting a large amount of methane and other gases (e.g., CO2, H2S) into the atmosphere, and flooding large areas of land. Whereas pure methane is lighter than air, methane loaded with water droplets is much heavier, and thus spreads over the land, mixing with air in the process (and losing water as rain). The air-methane mixture is explosive at methane concentrations between 5% and 15%; as such mixtures form in different locations near the ground and are ignited by lightning, explosions and conflagrations destroy most of the terrestrial life, and also produce great amounts of smoke and of carbon dioxide..." [5]

Last time I checked, fire can produce Carbon Monoxide and can be extinguished by Carbon Dioxide.

"Scientists say ingesting gasoline is only harmful if taken with a hot-pocket." Well then it must be true.

Obviously, a scientist said it after all.

Seriously, I haven't paid any attention to this bubble phenomenon, is this basically a big bubble of "we're [censored]" gas? :P Anyway, one doomsday theory after the other these days, if we all die then so be it, not like we'll care once we're dead.

Well what I'm saying is unless a prestigious Dr. [Insert stereotypical egghead name here] Professor of Fartgasology comes on TV and says "Lol we failed K thx, bai." I'm not going to bite.

"YAY! We're doomed!!!" - Gir 'Bad Bad Rubber Piggy'

When are they going to learn? Seriously. Its not about saving the planet. It is about preserving the human existence on this planet. It has nothing to do with the earth. It has everything to do with prolonging our inevitable demise on this planet. This world has been here for billions of years. It has had explosions, crap crashing into it from outer space for billions of years. Whatever we do to this planet has no bearing. When the planet decides our time is done. It will shake us off. It will turn our highways, buildings, cars, plastic bottles to dirt and dust and it will absorb our bones and something else will replace us.

Stop forcing your "Global Warming" [censored] down my throat because frankly. I just don't give a flying [censored]. If a giant methane bubble emerges out of the sea and some static electricity or lightening ignites it and I die in a ball of flame then so be it. There isn't a damn thing I can do about it anyway.

Nobody is discussing global warming really we are talking about methane in the gulf that was said would explode. Most thought it bunk and now we have links to it being debunked. If we do get into a discussion long and hard about global warming it would be off topic and thus the thread would be closed for "off topic discussion" or for becoming political, which we moderators know from experience it would.

But since this has been debunked, now is a good time to close it.
