Thanks for the positive feedback on this list. And thank you for continuing to suggest additional mods that fit in line with the list. I'll get those suggestions added to the list. Cheers!

Sweet, thanks for posting these. I wanted to get many of these posted to the quest section. I haven't had a chance to play through any of them yet =(

I'm hoping that will change! Thanks again,

Not to put my own mod in here...but I thought it would fit somewhere in your list. Its Native American music, and fits really well with Fallout 3. Its not a radio station or anything, since my modding skills svck lol...but still, it adds to the atmosphere of Fallout :) Since music/sound (at least for me) is more important than graphics themselves.

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6321

and here are some other sound mods, since I don't want to just say about mine :P

Rune Immersion Sound Modifications (an awesome mod that really improves a lot of the sound)

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4246

Wasteland Ambiance (another mod that adds, well...ambiance to the game world. Shouting in the distance, gun sounds and a bunch of other stuff)

http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4021

And thats it for my suggestions for now.

May I recommend http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=8069, http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10045, http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9250 and http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3660, mainly for those using Fellout, with its darker nights? :3

I think the author of Fellout Street Lights mentioned that they might be returning to work on the module during the christmas holidays. There are a few problems at the moment, though.

Thanks for recommending RIL and FirelightFix, I have them in my game now. A couple of things though, the Realistic Interior Lighting esp's are flagged as esm's which someone has been posted about on the nexus, this means the full effects wont be seen as they'll be loading before esps. It's a simple matter for those that use FO3edit to change this. Looking at FirelightFix it should load before Realistic Interior Lighting.

Bump for an awesome list. I'm redoing my mod list for testing purposes, and this guide is pretty much essential.

Everyone should read this, especially new players.

A hearty 'thank you!', Mez, for endorsing my http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4318 mod. I consider FWE to be the must-have mod for continued enjoyment of Fallout and this list is a valuable asset.

Real life has kept me from working on my mod for many months but I hope to have some time soon to add new features. Meanwhile, I've uncovered some issues with my mod that I thought readers of this thread should know about:

1) My old 1.3 upload accidentally included some unnecessary files which were causing some texture-flickering issues. To anyone who downloaded my mod before November 28th, please go to your Data\Meshes\clutter\books folder and delete bookgeneric01, bookgeneric02 and the .dds file bookgeneric0102.

2) Beta-testing has shown that Pre War Books fail to convert to titled versions after 100 books have been converted. I have discovered a solution for this and will fix it in the next release, which will hopefully be by mid-December.

This is a great list of mods and I have found it extremely helpful in trying to get my Fallout 3 all up to date with the modding community. Nice to see my Recycling Machines in there too!

I just thought I'd comment on this - it's a great list, but seems a little too FWE-centric to me.

You completely missed the point of my post.
Spoiler
I can't believe how complete your missing of the point in my post was!

FWE, in my opinion, is a rather... hardcoe mod. Fallout 3, however, isn't a... hardcoe game. I think there's no point in having a list like this stickied - after all, not all mods fit everyone's playstyle.

Name one overhaul that isn't hardcoe in its base form though. ( Only recently have I even considered making an optional casual mode for my own overhaul )
I think the point is moot.

I think a list like this helps the community in a few ways. People who are new to modding in general should have a good starting point of suggestions to branch out from there and Mez is an experienced modder. Too many options is just as much a bad thing as no options at all in the mind of a beginner just looking for a solid, but fresh experience in FO3. The list is really balanced too and as far as his skewing towards FWE I would say only that I would rather take suggestions from someone with an opinion rather than none at all. A completely blank laundry list undermines the idea of the mod list to begin with I think. If you do not agree with him it would be best to show what your picks would be. :)

Honestly, if there is one thing I would like to see change about this particular mod community is to make it more friendly for people who are not used to the ideas of load orders and masters of FO3edit. I would place a Vote here to sticky this thread. Making life easier for the less vocal majority would only make things better for the community as a whole.

As it should be, Mez put all the work into it. :) In all seroiusness though, FWE, MMM, WMK are some of the biggest and best mods out there, and a great many people love them.

And IMHO FWE is staple food-stuff for any Fallout3 game. ;) You don't have to agree with it, but just by looking at Nexus and the HUGE number of people that use the MMM/FWE/WMK combos, its defintiely something that should be stickied! No it wont be to Everyone's playing style, but I think many more players struggle with finding the good mod lists than those who dislike FWE. I would rather a list like this get stickied so the greatest number of people can try-out the mods for themselves.

Well thanks for the continued support folks! I have more additions to the list to make based on the suggestions and a few other discoveries.

Regarding the FWE-ishness of list:. First, the list is a gameplay an immersion mod list (for the most part), and FWE is a gameplay and immersion mod (for the most part), so of course there are going to be similarities in the types of mods included on the list =) Secondly, I tagged files as either conflicting with or being integrated into FWE, which is primarily of interest to FWE users, but it also gives guidance for people who don't want to use FWE, and instead prefer to mix and match a similar range of mods on their own to get a more modular experience. It was also done to give a little more credit for contributing mods and their authors.

Overall, I'm hoping this will be helpful (as it appears to be so far) to new mod users who come to forums asking, "what are the popular mods that do X, Y, & Z" . . . The alternative is to direct users to the Nexus top 100 listings, but that's somewhat of a different approach.

Anyway, once I get an extra moment I'll be adding additional mods to the list. Thanks again!

IMHO directing someone to the top 100 downloaded mods is not a viable way to answer such a question. Your thread here is far more efficient at explaining to new mod users what they should look at and how to combine them or what they even do.

FOOK?

I don't. Likewise, I feel that playing a game where you have to be ultra-cautious about things doesn't sound like what most people would play - immersion be damned. Bringing up the number of people who play FWE is a moot point - there's no accurate way of knowing how many people do.
I don't mean to criticise this list, or FWE, but I do feel the need to point out that FWE is a very different game to vanilla F3 - it's nice to play, once you get the hang of it, but until then...
I apologise if this sounds... over-the-top, but that's just a matter of how you read it...

Hmm from what I know about FOOK it should raise the difficulty to at least some degree. Though I have to admit FOOK seems to have an immense download endorsemant record. It dwarfs most other mods for the game..

However, you are absolutely correct, the same types of people who are generally attracted to a game like FO3 or Oblivion are not really looking for a super hardcoe challenge. But I don't think the point of the list is meant to be taken quite the way you seem to be taking it.

Thanks dude!

Do 'Canterbury Commons Embiggened' 'Bus World' and 'Attentater's Wasteland Economy' work with FOOK/FWE ?

Wish someone would do an expanded cities mod for this like they did in Oblivion :] lol

Xepha Darker Nights | FO3 Nexus
Are you afriad of the dark? Well not when it isn't dark. This mod makes the dark real dark. And real dark dark is scary dark. Mommy...

Heh, this is a better summary than I could ever have written. Mommy!

Thanks for the list! (And inclusion in it! :embarrass: ) Giving it run through now.

AWE is compatible with both, but you need to load it after FOOK2's W.A.N.K. if you are running it :)
