MGE and Blown Out Daytime Horizons

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 8:53 am

Hi. When using MGE and shaders, my horizon looks like this:

Totally white and blown out. Looking up a bit, we can see that the lovely deep blue sky fades to a very light color at the horizon, which is evidently causing my problem:

Is there a way to make it blue all the way down? Or a way to keep the shaders from completely blowing it out?

--------------------------

Here's my shader chain:

knx_SSAO_v09
knx_DoF_v12
sunshaft_v002a
trueBloom_g6_3

For my distant land, I pretty much used all of the default options.

EDIT: I'm sorry, I have no idea why my img tags aren't working.

TrueBloom is very customizable. (open with notepad, save as .fx)

const float bloom_mult_global = 0.4f; // The overall multiplier for bloom. Effects all areas.

I use this setting, it will tone down it.

PS. img tags aren't enabled for this forum. But I use this script:
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/79990
which enables images.

Also from Morrowind.ini, you can lower fog color, sky colors to prevent this. For example I lowered

Fog Day Color=206,227,255

to

Fog Day Color=106,127,155

for clear weather. That's half bright.

If you wouldn't mind an off-topic suggestion, http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=8397 will help make them look much better with distant land.

What vtastek said is about right. trueBloom (any version) with stock settings will look good in my opinion in a few cases; but since everybody likes it a bit different, I added a ton of settings (most of them have descriptions in the file). Just play with those numbers until you find one that looks nice.

Thanks all! Having tweaked the shader and ini settings, I think I've found a combination I'm happy with.

@skaeps.mp3:
Ha, I was actually googling for something like that when I saw your post. Thanks!

However, I'm now having a more dire problem. Morrowind is freezing--hard freezing. I can't ctrl-alt-del or do anything; my only option is to press the reboot button. It seems completely random. I'll just be walking around, and after 5-20 minutes of play it'll freeze up, with the last split second of sound looping harshly. I did some googling and this doesn't seem to be very common. Hrm.

Since it's intermittent and seemingly random, I'm not sure how to begin troubleshooting. Should I just open a new topic for this?

I get that problem if my audio settings are on 'hardware' accelertaed changing to 'software' accelerated fixes it for me.

- From anywhere in Morrowind, press the Escape (ESC) key on the keyboard to bring up the Main Menu.
- Click Options, then the Audio tab.
- Click the button under 3D Audio Quality so the button says Software.
- Try the game and see if it crashes.
