MGE XE HELP! (WATER FIX)

Post » Tue May 08, 2012 2:57 pm

I have MGE XE working fine right now and I currently use dynamic ripples. The water works fine but looks terrible. I saw a water fix the other day but I can't seem to find it now. I lost it. :( I didn't switch to MGE XE until today so when I saw it, I had no need for it. Now I wish I had it. Does anyone know where something of this nature is located? As long as the water doesn't look like a million squares, I'm good.

A million squares, eh? No idea what you're talking about.

You could try http://abot-morrowind.tk/index.php?option=downloads&task=info&id=20&Itemid=50 but you may notice a steep drop in performance (some do, some don't.)

The water reflects the land and sky in a billion squares. Thanks for the link, trying it now...this is exactly the one I saw the other day.

EDIT: It seems that the ripples are over reactive. As soon as I step in to the water, the water ripples up until it is filled with billions of ripples. I'll just disable it.

Are you sure you have the latest version of XE?

I used to have this problem, but the latest version of MGE XE fixed it for me. Apparently the problem was caused by the fact that the original code for the feature used a hack which not all graphics cards accept (mine is an ATI HD 3400). The ripples would run in an endless loop, eventually filling up the entire water plane.

Heh, do you know any other .fx files that have water foam? I don't even care if they're not implemented the best with the foam apearring in rain or anything or without the extra stuff from Abot's, I just want the foam without such as steep fps hit :biggrin:

@waswar1
You could easily edit the shader yourself in a text editor since the shader file is set up to make it simple to disable the hardest hit to FPS in the effect file; sewer waves. However, I had a few moments to spare so I just did it for you.

Here is Abot's water shader with sewer waves disabled. http://www.mediafire.com/?aslxs1x49oshgcd

Wow, you are awesome, thank you so much! :twirl:
Shame I have almost no experience in editing these files intext or anything..
Tested in-game, and wow, fps is just like it was with the normal xe water shader!

Edit: Ugh! I feel so stupid! I was too busy looking for screenshots I didn't even notice the description of how to get rid of the sewer waves (Or foam for other people) on the bottom!
