-shots-

I love that rain and waves one, with waves and ripples it would look almost real. The sun behind the tree is pretty awesome too, I love how it casts rays to the side.

Someday we'll start a mge Neverwinter Nights thread.

I'm pretty sure its Phal's water w/waves, but those ripples are something else, I'm not sure where those are from....

http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?s=&showtopic=1074308&view=findpost&p=15656548 which has waves, ripples when it's raining, and some other new thing I haven't looked at yet.

(All the shots were made with the same shader. It's just that the waves aren't very obvious when viewed from above)

Sun through clouds:

After some crazy chroma keying attempts via HLSL shaders, I gave up on this. I am happy to see you achieving it. :tops: I am very curious how it works.

PS. Could you do some commenting? I know your shaders are real easy to follow, but some commenting could help me and others.

I had to modify the d3d8.dll for this. I let MW render the clouds onto an extra texture, which is then passed to the shaders. In the sunshaft shader I simply multiplied the sky depth mask with the cloud translucency, so they would cast shadows (or better: NOT cast sunrays) as well. Still got some problems with the clouds disappearing abruptly below a certain angle over the horizon, which looks rather odd at sunsets/sunrise.

I'll try :)

I'm just experimenting with it now. Sunsets, the way it meant to be. The real deal, only the necessarily parts of the sky is on fire. Horizon is not evenly lit anymore, west and east have a difference. Outstanding work!!! (I will flood here with screenshots once I finish customizations.)

The only problem seems to be the extra fog passes for other shaders, like SSAO(lots of white dots on SSAO during foggy weathers). Do you think fog pass can be a post process shader that loads last, I think at that point a flag must be set for shaders 'write on fog', 'write below fog', then we can mark necessary shaders. I want to think this can avoid reapplying fog again and again, solving fog compatibility problems and maybe lead to a performance increase.

So now the cloud texture is passing to shaders, that's good news. I was anolyzing your improved water caustics shader and see the possibility for amazing things, one is cloud shadows. I don't know anything about optimizations, I just rudely projected a 1024x1024 texture to whole world, even to the sky! But it looks great. I may dive into ingame.fx too, because yesterday for the first time it looked... short. :P

I'll try :)

:foodndrink: Thanks.

orgismic

I guess the texture is rendering in the shader, do you think you can add a special transformation fx for weather changes. It would be amazing to see shafts of light emerging through cloud openings during the transformation phase between cloudy or clear weathers and rainy or thunderstorms weathers.

PS. I wonder what can be achieved if some additional care to alpha layers of all sky textures were shown. ( :poke: texture artists )

PPS. I like these calm little moments before the storm, screenshot storms... :P

How the hell you guys figured out these things??? :P

If you're referring to the texture, it looks like Westly's Tang Mo race. As for the shaders, beyond the celshader I really couldn't guess.
