MGE Screenshot Thread #3

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 12:44 pm

I REALLY want to see a nice cel-shader for Morrowind, I've tried tweaking Polik GroNak's Cel-Shader v4, but I couldn't get it to reduce the amount of colours used, by tweaking the variables.

If you set the amount of mip-map levels generated during distant land generation to something low, no matter how high you set mip-map bias, the textures wont loose as much detail.
Maybe that's what's causing detail to be retained in distant land for you, though I wouldn't change it, it looks really nice. :)

Thanks for giving this a go, vtastek, I'm sure it'll come out great!

Hi nONatee,
these screenschots are very beautiful, in particular
http://img50.imageshack.us/img50/9618/mgescreenshot143.jpg so sweet sunset

and

http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/7332/mgescreenshot096.jpg Dusk

In these screenshots, what I prefer is the fog...
But, with my MGE, I can't see like in your screen this beautiful fog effect...
Are there specially MGE settings, shaders ... ? and can you or another one tell me how can I have this "hazy" effect ?

Thanks in advance and sorry for my bad English...
(In fact how can I have a very fogged Morrowind...)

So, seriously, how are you guys doing this? I've got MGE running fairly well. I've looked at a lot of screenshots from this thread and I know my game doesn't look this awesome! What's your secret? Settings please.

I played with my godrays shader. I increased exposure tweakable. Rest is common shaders like gimp, ssao with visual xt, changing faces, darknuts armor and creatures and morrowind.ini, distant land range tweaks(I am still tweaking them).

In no particular order but divided into parts for easier viewing...
Ready?

"Instant splash.fx" would be a better name. :D I tossed around a couple of times, luckily I have disable hardware shaders button.

Very nice! Those are direct screenshots from in-game without post processing?

The technique definitely works extraordinarily well for splash screens in some of those shots - I particularly like the http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f386/vtastek/morrowind/Morrowind2009/splashshader/Morrowind-MGE-Vivec1.jpg, http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f386/vtastek/morrowind/Morrowind2009/splashshader/Morrowind-MGE-betty1.jpg, http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f386/vtastek/morrowind/Morrowind2009/splashshader/Morrowind-MGE-deskdetail.jpg, http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f386/vtastek/morrowind/Morrowind2009/splashshader/Morrowind-MGE-dremora.jpg, and http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f386/vtastek/morrowind/Morrowind2009/splashshader/Morrowind-MGE-guar4.jpg. They are directly from in-game, post process is the shader. ;) It came to me in a vision(not kidding!!!) :P, coded in less than 2 minutes on the toon shader.

Those shots are all using the same variables, if it is scripted, one can control the transition harshness, far clipping, near clipping... Also additional textures can be added for artist specific fades. I used z-buffer for the fade effect there.

Controlling a 3D scene via z-buffer is really a powerful tool.

holy mother of god... O_O

i almost feel like im looking at a mod recreating morrowind on oblivion's engine...

i would kill for this mod, but... it looks like it'd require alot more computer power... i dont think i'd be able to run morrowind at full power using this mod...

my computer barely runs oblivion at its lowest graphics, afterall... though morrowind runs perfectly.

You could probably at least run some high res texture packs if you don't already. That doesn't require MGE.

Might even be able to run an older version of Phal's water shader with distant land set to "1" etc.
