MGE Screenshot Thread #3

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 5:30 pm

A few years back there wasn't anywhere to post Scenic Screenshots. We had a Character ScreenShot Thread. So I started a Scenic Screenshots thread.
Early on we talked about if photo shop was ok. Now Scenic Screenshots is very heavy with MGE, plus there are tons of questions about it and it's shaders.
So now it has it's own thread for MGE.

MGE Screenshot Thread #2

What are shaders? (link forthcoming)

Now, continue with the epic graphics. :D

This thread is so empty... so here's a pic of what can go wrong when you use an MGE-based mod that is several versions old XD

Sounds like the prisoners don't agree with your mod choices. I can't blame them.

Just a couple from me for now. They're the typical shots that I always take when I first start a game, though they're remarkably more beautiful with MGE. :)

I just used Picasa on them. My free time is too limited to Photoshop them.

A quick attempt (using the normal map and caustics, for lack of my own foam code) at putting in shoreline foam:
You get the idea: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y145/peachykeen000/MGEScreenshot028.png
The concept works: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y145/peachykeen000/MGEScreenshot030.png
But could use some tweaking: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y145/peachykeen000/MGEScreenshot034.png

Plus a pure ocean one, photorealistic (IMO) water: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y145/peachykeen000/MGEScreenshot036.png

I think there is a mipmap trick to create better leaves. Like the ones from Oblivion.

Another reminder why grass is awesome with SSAO: http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b120/iamerik/MW%20and%20Oblivion/MGEScreenshot22-1.jpg/http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b120/iamerik/MW%20and%20Oblivion/MGEScreenshot21-1.jpg (the FPS difference isn't just because of SSAO)

Grass is a good example for SSAO, how the blades are close to each other. Calculating real-time shadows for each blade would kill all hardware out there, SSAO is doing a good job with high performance, still taking indirect illumination and light scattering properties of grass, I would want to tone it down a little for grass only. And nice screens.

CPU: Intel E8500 3.16 GHz
GPU: ATI Radeon HD4850 512MB
RAM: OCZ Platinum Dual Channel 2 x 2 GB

On a 1280x1024 resolution with a distant land distance of 4.5 cells. Along with SSAO I'm running GIMP HDRBloom 1.3, Phal's Underwater Caustics and Phal's Sunshafts.

I'd say my average FPS outdoors is around 20... Depends on the location.

I need to figure out some better settings so I can get that SSAO to run on my rig without having almost no FPS available. How much impact on FPS does the cell draw distance normally have. I have mine at 8 cells at the moment, and if I kick in SSAO (which I already modified the iterations on to bring it down just a touch for my rig - went from 20 to 10 I think) I am down to 10 or less FPS in outdoor locations. Granted, it could also be my system specs, as I don't have the best machine around:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.40 GHz
GPU: ATI Radeon HD3650 256MB
RAM: 4.00 GB

Any suggestions from the great MGE gurus around here?

I've completely lost track of radeon model numbers over the past few years... how does that compare to a geforce 8800GTX?
