MGE settings.

Well, no matter how ahrd I try I cannot get MGE settings that give me a steady frame rate (50-60) preferred.

My system specs are as follows:

i7 950 at 3.06ghz
8gb of ram at 1600 mhz
xfx 6970 2gb
1tb wd caviar black 7200rpm

And thats all that really matters.

Anyway anyone with a similar system can you post your MGE settings, or someone guide me to get the settings?

99% of MGE performance depends on distant land draw settings, but your system looks like it should be handling it no matter what level you set it to. What's your distant land cell count at right now? A lot of people have to run it at 3~7 just to keep the framerate semi-decent; your system should be able to do 25, easy.

It should be able to but when I set it to anything higher than 15 mt fps dips to like 25 sometimes lower.

I'm playing with 5 cells at between 12 and 20 FPS. Maybe you should just set the cells at 15 and call it a day?

I just did a little test. Using the Graphics and sounds overhaul my fps is 25-30 at default settings without grass. I pull 30+ fps in crysis max settings at a higher resolution. So I think Morrowind just doesn't like my pc :(

Morrowind doesn't like any current PCs... it was designed for old PCs.
25-30 is plenty when using the Overhaul. Be thankful.

Morrowind + MGE will tax any system more than crysis, crysis actually has a very optimized engine, morrowind does not. I can run Crysis max settings with 30+ fps all day long, I can run Morrowind + MGE(~6-7 shaders) between 25-60 fps, I typically run a stable 60 fps in interiors, but am lucky to get much over 30 in exteriors, especially in heavy populated areas like Balmora and Vivec. Then again, if I get rid of all my mods I can run 60+ fps consistantly, my cpu is my limiting factor when playing Morrowind, and the 2500k is about as good as it gets for the task.

Yeah, and I can do Two Worlds 2 without ANY dip in framerate with max everything on, yet Morrowind, again, 10ish FPS at distance land count of 15. Pretty much crappy.

And even then it was a) slow to begin with, B) not designed for expansions of the current standard, and c) had a line of sight of [just turn distant land off]. :)

So it's not a particular PC - Morrowind just is slow.

Hmm, seriously you can't complain about 25-30 FPS. However, your PC should really be be able to pull more there. Pretty weird to me.

It's not that weird I believe.

My specs are:
i7 860 @ 3,4 GHz
GTX 560 Ti
6 GB Ram 1333 MHz
320 GB HDD with 7200 rpm

and I get similar FPS in Exteriors. But if there are settings for MGE that give us even better FPS, it would be great to know. :D

What resolution are you running at?

A friend complained that he was getting low fps before and was running it at 1920x1080, not surprising that it ran slowly with distant land, grass etc all enabled.

Turn character shadows off if you haven't already. They're ugly and give quite a big performance hit, especially if you've enabled the 'high quality shadows' in the ini or MGE.

For static size, don't go under 100.

Also it depends on which version of MGE you're using, some versions offer much better performance than others.
