Microsoft not helping Crytek in marketing

Post » Fri Nov 05, 2010 10:46 pm

When the Be The Weapon - Trailer was realeased I checked my Xbox to look, if this trailer was in the "Check this new Trailer" area, but i didn't find anything. Then I looked up for the Crysis 2 entry in the marketplace. They haven't updated it since months. There are only 2 Screenshots (2 of the first Screenshots) a not updated game cover, the latest trailer is Marine Salvage (ok that's a bit up to date) and the new release date is not there. I guess Microsoft is not caring, or Crytek just haven't noticed but they should change that in the near future.

in the PSN [playstation Network] there's 3 trailers...the last is "the marine salvage" but there's only 3...and this is too bad, really i think this game should have more marketing...

Xbox marketplace has only 2 Trailers. Marine Salvage and The Wall. That's it.

Hey ppl well I as a PC gamer and a hardcoe fan feel phoocked by Crytek by their general lack of interest in PC scene with C2 release.

I don’t think that this is an issue of Sony or M-soft but a lousy product manager and marketing communication manager at Crytek. Sorry to say that but I am just curiously browsing around internet and what I see is general lack of interest in the game. This forum is half-dead and I don’t see some great gamers driven enthusiasm all over the net.
Something is generally wrong...

Hmm but in the end this is very interesting why C2 went so wrong project and marketing wise. I hope very much that I am wrong.

you, me, and the rest of this forum. im sorry to say, but if EA and Crytek dont get some really solid ads to fly around, than crysis 2 may suffer the same fate as crysis 1, abandoned. which is a goddamned shame, because so many people worked so hard to make it badass

Well, it's 3 months until the release. I think they will make a biiiiiiiiiiig tv ad maybe a month or few weeks before the release. There is still time.

uhm well I work in very much different industry then games and with much different demographics but I am perfectly sure that TV is not a effective medium anymore. There is horrible clutter there, audience is partialed (specially for global release), it is costly and above all ppl do not trust ads as much as they did back in the days.

But ther is a new advertising medium that is perfect in both web space and real reality :) and those are people a.k.a. humans. They advertise by both word of mouth, inducing brands in their life style and showing product all around.

To build that you need time and we all see that this is not happening. 3 months is terribly short time till release.

I am wondering why there is no cute Crysis 2 badge facebook app to be proud among your friends and simple funny C2 iphone app to play with your pals around and C2 stickers all over our laptops and iphones, pins in our shirts and disputes what cool tactics we can have with all those new possibilities (not to many :/) C2 will give us.
You know all this stuff which will help to make 10 customers out of one Crysis fan.

Instead we are all talking why the hell C2 went so wrong and feel abandoned.

Hope I am wrong.

EA doesnt consider Crytek as a serious company to make good games, and I think that Crytek should move on to a different publisher or handle it first party.

Ubisoft sure has a ton of downsides, but they handled Crytek with much more interest, pumped a **** more money into the Far Cry release, it was much more supported, and that resulted in a better release both sales and quality wise for Crytek's debut title.

EA has been handling the Crysis 2 release with so much animosity that even the base fans are having a general disinterest for the title. EA had horrible support for Crysis 1 and pressured Crytek into releasing that game early with tons of bugs which was soon abandoned, and Crysis 2 seems to be a complete marketing disaster with tons of potential like the first game.

I think that Crytek has made some huge mistakes since 2005, the biggest certainly being selling the Far Cry franchise and moving over to EA as their publisher.

The demographic is already playing games, so the best places they can advertise are on xbl, psn and (especially, since it's the pc playerbase that will most likely lap the game up like with battlefield) steam. I mean, come on, the game is out in march and yet it's not in the 'coming soon' section of steam yet! Jeez.

By this point in time, crysis 1 was actually getting somewhat hyped (admittedly not hugely like halo or half life 2: ep 2) and that shifted about 1.5m copies in the end (by this point, due to several steam sales, probably around 3m) and has one of the strongest modding communities on the planet. Seriously pop over to crymod, the stuff those guys create is mindblowing.

But this time there's nary a tumbleweed to be seen in crysis 2 hype town. Call me a bit cliche in saying this, but i think it's because they've left their established (and to be honest, fairly large now that people have finally been able to play it in it's glory) PC fanbase in the cold. It'd be like killzone moving to the xbox, a few will be interested (counteracted by ps3 players who see the game as an abomination compared to the exclusive), a few will still see it as 'the enemy' or blatantly just not interested as they never played the original, and crysis 2 will suffer such a fate.

if crysis 2 wants hype, they need to generate it amongst their current fans, not decide it's too cool for them and instead chase a whole new demographic. It's going to end up the awkward fat kid who decided to chase a new group of friends who didn't like him in the first place and in the meantime told his last group of friends, who actually somewhat got on with him, to go feck themselves.

Basically, crytek, you need pc footage and hype now, and then build upon that (more easily started) momentum for consoles. At the moment you're trying to shovel a car out of a drive frozen with liquid nitrogen.

For all those worried about the media coverage of the game I agree all the crappy games like cod and halo get way too much money thrown at them. I think that crysis needs to take the halo route and do some live action shorts because the one they had for halo reach was awesome.

Why do live action? Just use the PC version in the adverts, it'll look better than real life. Job done.

you have a very good point i loved those live action ads. but dont call halo reach crappy. thats a game that people dedicated a lot of hard work into. there is no "crappy games" just different games w/ different fan groups, k?

The Be the weapon trailer was good already, even more awesome than expected. I thought it was gonna be more crappy Mp footage to butter up the console crowd.

No, I'm quite sure there are crappy games. Take, for example, Mirror's Edge. What a splendid idea, gone so terribly wrong that it makes me want to throw up in the developers' faces.

That's one truly terrible game. Terrible. Terrible beyond the imaginable. Not getting into specifics here, but there are **** games out there. There are "niche" games, yes, such as Section 8, for example, but that doesn't mean that all **** games are just meant for a "different audience".

As for this live action thing. You might want to elaborate. I've never seen it. I don't know what it is.

Thank you

Iceman as someone who has done some work with video games, its hard ass work, and game designers deserve respect, you sit down and play it for ten minutes and you call them ****? now thats just being a dike.. btw mirrors edge had a lot more success than you may think, and wheather you acknowledge it or not, it does have a decent audience that enjoys it as an alternative to racing cars and shooting people

Mirror's Edge is an amazing game, you just have to get into parcour. I got the game because of parcour so what? The story is amazing, the gameplay is amazing, the graphics are outstanding against other Unreal 3 Games. But we're getting Off-Topic. I checked the Xbox marketplace, today. They added screenshots (now 14 instead of 2) but still no new trailers. They changed the icon but the cover is still the old one. It's getting rolling. I guess with the next trailer/ingame material the bomb will explode and Crysis will come out big. The latest point of time for this is when (finally) a demo will be released.
