Microsoft Will update your computer to windows 10 Automatic

Common sense > UAC

UAC is definitely useful, but necessary if you know what you're doing.

For the most part, yes, however common sense won't always prevent your system from being compromised.

I guess if you are blinding clicking accept on UAC prompts then removing it completely doesn't change much.

Yes and no. If you disable UAC completely and somehow get some malware or a PUP that wants to do things to your system that require elevated permissions, then you won't get a prompt to alert you...said malware will just have the run of your system without your knowledge.

I like to think that I know what I'm doing, and I will never completely disable UAC. UAC is your friend. UAC is your drinkin' buddy. UAC loves you and wants you to be safe.

I have windows 10, I love windows 10 and would recommend it for people building new comps but holy crap Microsoft this is an awful, awful idea. If people don't want Windows 10 don't force it on them, it's not a good idea especially since people report a lot of problems when upgrading from win 7 or win 8 to win 10

We already know that we can avoid installing W10, even if M$ insists. :P

Yea but turning off automatic updates is kind of a stupid way to avoid it. There shouldn't NEED to be avoidance from updating to Win 10, it should solely be a choice.

Actually it's the smartest way to treat any update. Ever since the day Windows Update installed an update that screwed... Windows Update, forcing me to completely reinstall W7, I refuse to install any update that is not "important"; and I know that it's still a risk. :)

Interestingly I'm seeing more PC gamers who have absolutely no problems upgrading from Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 and say it's even better and faster than Windows 7. Than the PC gamers who say they hate Windows 10, etc.

Or maybe I'm seeing this in a alternate universe?

I've seen a lot of people have trouble upgrading to windows 10 on comps that previously had 7 or 8.

In a way I have seen a lot of people having trouble upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7 and Windows 8, but once they upgraded they loved using Windows 10 more than Windows 7 or Windows 8 and prefer the faster boot time that Windows 10 has as well.

It's a mixed view.

It's a good idea and a bad idea:

It's a bad idea because people (generally speaking) hate change and like being in full control.

It's a good idea because it makes fixing problems easier when they don't have to support multiple operating systems. Right now a lot of people are still using 7, which is 3 generation old. They really cannot move forward until everyone (mostly) is on the same page.

Nothing i guess. I've been using W10 since release and i have had 0 problems with it. Not one single crash. About the whole Spyware i don't think Microsoft would be doing that it would be a waste of money no use for it and it wouldn't help them i don't get what would be so helpful collecting peoples information but then again it could help them fix some bugs on the operating system. Also if you don't like the useless apps W10 comes with just uninstall them using CCleaner use the uninstall option also disable useless resource hog Cortana. lol

I still miss W7 though. I had good times with it.

I'm always for the changes Microsoft does for their new Windows Operating Systems (OS') that they release in the future.

I'm ok with the auto-updates for Windows and I know how to disable them and be in control myself.

I still don't have Windows 10 yet because my main PC is Windows 7 64-bit, but I still purchase PC versions of video games on Windows XP and Windows Vista. I still have my Windows XP and Windows Vista PC's plugged in.

Windows XP is 15 years old and I still purchase PC versions of video games on it.

I'm pretty sure I will be purchasing PC versions of video games on Windows XP 10 years from now, even if they don't support Windows XP.

That your provocative, but most games will run on windows 10, so need for a xp, vista, and 7 computer.

Huh? I never said that some of the classic old PC versions of video games will not work on Windows 10.

I said I will never get rid of Windows XP ever and that I will purchase PC versions of video games that don't have Windows XP support 10 years from now. Security exploits are the only things I have to worry I about.

I don't need nor want Microsoft collecting data on me for any reason, personally.

It's none of their freaking business where I go, what I use, and given their predisposition for handing over information to NSA whenever they ask for it, given my political activity, installing Windows 10 is essentially asking to be detained.

I'd honestly be surprised if I'm not on a government list somewhere because I oppose the establishment.

If you think it's a waste of money, then you need to go take a look at what your data sells to advertisers for.

They pay HUGE bucks for customers preference data, product search history, sales history.

Also you can be sure DOSBOX will always prevail.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I'm just kidding. I've never been a fan of all these "plans" to stick chips in our fingers etc, to get the ins and out of our everyday doings, and if my computer ends up a giant security camera, I'm so tossing a magnet in it. :P

I don't download it because it is an update - I don't because it just svcks all around. Stuff that use to be free now costs money in their wannabe apple store. I have to basically hunt for "Free" versions of the same [censored] after the upgrade on my laptop. They also refuse to fix all my problems with Excel so I can't imagine what else is in store for me wiht an OS. Ill stick to Windows 7.

Microsoft has been fighting a legal battle against the federal government since 2013 because they refuse to hand over emails stored in one of their Irish datacenters to the FBI. That is not the action of a company that lightly hands over information to the government. Yes, if they are served with a valid warrant they hand over information, just like Google, Facebook, Apple, or any other company operating in the US that doesn't want to pay massive fines and/or have members of its board of directors go to jail for contempt of court and then have to hand over the data anyway else the FBI confiscates the entire datacenter.

In regards to your personal paranoid delusions: The 1st Amendment to the United States constitution lays out that no, you can't be arrested and prosecuted for simply criticizing the government or any other political beliefs. Yes, government agencies might be watching you for if you'd go out and hijack a plane in the name of the glorious revolution but that would be observation for potential conspiracy to commit murder etc, not your political affiliations.

A friend of mine is very computer illiterate and he asked me to buy him a laptop and set it all up with the software he needs and ship it to him.

I specifically picked a certain laptop because it did not have Windows 10. I put it in my online 'cart' and shopped around. When I went to order it a few days later I got a message saying that the laptop had been upgraded to Windows 10 and they took $50 bucks off the price which was already slightly below $300. It's not much of a laptop. I tried and tried to find it with Windows 7 and they were no longer available.

I have to tell ya, I've been using computers since DOS 3.0 and this Windows 10 garbage put out by Microsoft is the biggest invasion of privacy gone wild crap I have ever witnessed in my entire lifetime. This company is nothing but pure unadvlterated evil.

It has facial recognition, voice recognition, fingerprint recognition, retinal recognition software. It logs and tracks every single key you hit via email, search, document you create or edit, word you speak, video you make, chat session you participate in, forum you type on. If your finger touches a button or it sees or hears you, it's logged and stored. You have to accept in their 'agreement' that they can simply hand anything over to any authority that asks, including files you put on their 'Cloud' and stored locally and they can lock you out of your content, even locally, if they deem necessary.

And even though you can opt out of a lot of it during setup, it doesn't stick. You still have to go in and manually opt out of everything you opted out of during setup. And not everything can be opted out of.

Windows 10 is absolutely spyware in almost every variant there is out there. It's a keylogger, videologger, audiologger, trojan, and hijacker. The only reason it's not openly labeled as 'Spyware' is because you have to agree to it, which technically de-classifies it as spyware. And until I can run all my games and recording software on Linux, I'm forced to accept this trash and it's not right.

Thank God I'll be dead and gone before we're completely taken over by all of this. And it is coming. Hell, there's already microphones in washers, dryers, stoves, microwaves, dishwashers, under the guise of 'tech support'. I have sleep apnea and got a new machine last week. It is connected to the internet 24/7 and has built in wifi. I can even go online and see my reports. It's so the insurance company can make sure that I'm using it, otherwise, I get billed $5,000 dollars for it if it's not used a certain amount of hours in 90 days.

Where does this garbage stop? It's truly frightening that most people have no problem with this.
