Mid-Game Customisation

Post » Wed Sep 01, 2010 7:12 pm

Heya forum!

So here's one thing Fallout had that neither Morrowind nor Oblivion did, and that is the ability to customize your character after s/he's been created. Shouldn't we be able to do that? There should be barbers, and maybe even tattoo artists in the game. They could even give characters scars and visible injuries during battle that go away after healing.

How do you guys like the idea? Do you think it should/would be implemented?

Oh yes.I need that.
It can be done via console commands or mods but it'd always reset your attributes/skill progress,so it needs a official touch.

yeah the more customization the better,
i'd love to see a body weight scale too, not unlike the one in fable - with high strength giving you muscles, and a lot of eating/drinking giving you a belly

I think it is pretty much garanteed to have tatooists and barbers. They have said you can have tattoos and war paint put on your character and that you can have beards so why wouldnt they let you change the tattoos/paint and beards. Also there will most likely be a way of getting rid of scars or preventing them because not everybody would want a massive scar across thier face for example. you will probably either have to do a sort of spell/drink a certain potion after having a scarring wound to stop the scar

Barbers are plausible, they were in FO3 and (I assume) FNV, so no reason they won't be in Skyrim. Tattooing is confirmed (though I can't for the life of me figure out why, most tattoo/body art look ridiculous in games and in real life... at least you can get rid of them in games I suppose). Scaring is confirmed, though no word how it'll work (hopefully better than it did in the Fable series). And I believe different body types have been confirmed.

Nords had woad in Morrowind, much like vikings and other norse peoples. It would be silly not to have the option in Skyrim.

These are all nice features. By different body types, do you mean "slim, moderate, heavy"? or something along those lines? Or something else?

I agree with the Mid-Game editing. But it should be how Fable did it. You shouldn't be able to change your facial features, but if you want a new hairstyle or tat or something, sure why not.

I think so, the article wasn't really explicit with the details though.

That's what it amounts to in FO3, I think it's the same in FNV (but I never played that game, so I really would not know). That's about all I ever want out of Fable in TES, but for some reason gamesas seem to think it's a good idea to include dyes like Fable did.

Having customization will be nice, but it should be realistic too. I mean, if you go to the barber with a bald head you won't come out with an afro or something like that. Hair should grow accordingly to time and then you can choose your hairstyle for the specific length of your hair.

Would be nice if that was so, but I can't see it happening in Skyrim.

It would be nice, but realisticly thinking (or at least in my own point of view), I dont think it is very likely to happen to have hair grow with time... (Though who knows, it might happen...)

I see what you're saying, and that would add a sense of realism but I don't like the idea. I know that a bald person can't change their hair style in a matter of minutes, but this is part of where I think it should leave realism behind. If I am playing as a bald character and get tired of the style, I should be able to go in and get a new hair style such as......... an afro! I don't want to wait months (in game) to finally be able to change my hair......

I'd hate to see a barbershop in every town they way you see a blacksmith. Just not realistic. Most people would have cut their own hair, with shears or a knife, or gotten their friends to do it. So I think you should be able to, but there's no need for "Ye Olde Styliste." There should be a limit on it (once a week, at most) to allow the hair to grow back or w/e.

Of course, there were barbers and shavers in medieval times, it's just they were mostly reserved for the wealthy. As far as tattoos go, I'd be fine with getting new ones done (and while there wouldn't be a tattoo shop either, I imagine some villages would have a shaman or some such who would be trained in that art) but, NO removing of existing tattoos. Don't like a tattoo? Load a save game.

Fallout 3 had barbers and one plastic surgeon. Would be nice to have something similar in Skyrim, at the very least for the haircuts. That just makes a lot of sense.

The plastic surgery could be magic based. :P

I'm sure a barber could know a little magic and have a restoration spell on hand that helps hair grow...if you really need an explantion why bald people can leave a barber shop with hair. Anyway, I'd like to see it.

I dont want the fable thing with regards to body type. I'm all for customization, but I wanna choose the look of my character, so I don't want my assassin to be fat just because he's not that strong and happens to sit still alot. However I'm all for tatoos and haircuts midgame... oh and I need to say this everywhere MORE ARMOR SLOTS!

I can do with a barber showing up in the game to change my hair.

It could also make guards stop activly looking for you, but your bounty will stick and you get your old bounty back when you get caught doing something bad again.

Personally, as long as we can change our character's appearances I'm fine with it, but I'd prefer being able to change anything I want. For example:

Barber: Haircut and beards

Tattooist: You're intelligent people. I won't insult you.

Some sort of mage who has mastered the power of shapeshifting (perhaps when you first encounter them they are in the form of a creature): Facial appearance and possibly body type.

Yes to being able to change your hair midgame but nothing else. The Face, Gender and Race should be locked in after you've left the tutorial area.

This. Along with a potion or NPC to remove scars.

Also I'm on board with the 'bald to afro in a matter of moments' and being able to remove as well as add/change your tattoos. I mean, this is a world full of magic, with mages, necromancers, water-walking, and where god-like creatures occasionally come for a visit or stage full-scale invasions. I think I can muster a reasoning or at least suspension-of-disbelief for some insta-hair-grown and tattoo-be-gone.

You could buy hair tonic from an apothecary and it will reset to the natural hair style.
